So... let's hope for ties all around the AHA tonight?

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

Good game tonight. RIT dominated play more than the 3-1 score suggests. The 36-16 shots tells a more realistic story.
Well, the last few games it appears the Tigers' offense has reverted to this season's first half tricks again. Plenty of shots and "dominating" play with little or no resluts. What happened to the way they played in Vermont, against Wisconsin, Bentley, and Sacred Heart? With the stretch of five games they have left, they had better find it quickly, or they'll be playing on the weekend of the 2nd-3rd.

If we're going to be honest, the only series you mentioned that the Tigers offense really exploded was the Sacred Heart one...and they're the worst defensive team in Atlantic Hockey. The only real impressive opponent they've put up more than 3 goals against is Mercyhurst. If you take out the 10 goal explosion, I don't see a lot of difference between RIT's 1st half and 2nd half offensive output. They're just going to have to win with defense and opportunistic scoring, like they did last night. I don't think a lot of teams will beat them when they score 3 goals and limit the opposition under 20 shots.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

When you look at the league in general, it is the year of the goaltender. All the contenders have good goaltending, and that is limited scoring everywhere. I don't think you will see many 4 goal games against teams in the top 3/4 of the league. Bottom line is all you need to do is score one more than the opposition, and RIT has one of if not the best goaltender in the league.

Scary as it may be, the AHA tournament will likely come down to which goaltender is hot at that time, and there are a number of candidates that will be up to the task.

Well, AFA and Mercyhurst won unfortunately, but the good news is that we have put some space between us and RoMo.

Also, Torf has started 3 games in a row and has allowed only 2 goals, and has 2 shutouts. Looks like he is back to form.

I am more concerned about Bentley and Holy Cross making gains as they have easier schedules and are working their way to the top 4.

Can someone post the link to the hockey standings site that gives the scenarios for the end of the regular season? I can't find it. Thx.

RIT moves back into second place with another dominating performance. Offense got on track and got 5, including a gorgeous shorty by Noyes. Defense was a bit weak, but if you don't count the goal that Canisius literally threw into the net it was a 2 goal night for them.

It's a little funny to me that Noyes by far had the best, most impressive breakaway compared to the two forwards who failed to even make a move before that. Either way, great to see Noyes contributing this year, this kid has potential. And of course, Garbowsky continues to put the team on his back, too. Love how hard he plays.

Looking forward to the RoMo series next week.

How about Greg Noyes?! What a beautiful breakaway, deke, and goal (2).

The Noyes was brought.

I saw on Twitter that Canisius was having a fan bus to the game. Did they end up having many fans? It was hard to tell on the tv broadcast.

They had quite a few that were heard when they scored their goals. More fans than opposing teams usually have at the Ritter, but nothing too impressive.

Actually, that was a good goal. Moser gloved the puck down to the opposite side of the crease and swatted it in with his stick. What was really painful (and frankly embarassing) was listening to the TWSC idiots try to figure out on the replay why it was a good goal. It was obvious that after awhile someone had to get on their headset and tell them that you can glove pass to yourself.

so Ferris State is #1.. i guess we have something to say now to all the nay sayers.. that we beat a #1 team in the nation, even shut them out, albeit they were not #1 at the time we played them. Should help us with our strength of schedule...

While I apperciate the broadcast in HD, I have never been impressed with the TV Guys knowledge of not only RIT hockey, but hockey in general. Can some please beg Randy to do those broadcast. Although, Randy in HD.... Yikes.... But watching the replay that was indeed a good goal...

To the more knowledgeable Media Guys around here. What is the tie breakers this year for the AHA??? Looks like they may be needed, I think in the past it was as listed below. Also be nice if this info was posted on the AHA website

1. Head-to-head Points
2. Head-to-head Goal differential
3. Conference wins...
4. Goal differential - (in conference only)
5. Goals allowed - (in conference only)
6. Goals scored - (in conference only)

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

This is what the league sent out last week:

Tiebreaker for 2011-12

Here is the tiebreaker for two or more teams
1. Points head-to-head
2. Goal differential head-to-head
3. Conference wins
4. Goal differential – conference games
5. Goals allowed – conference games
6. Goals scored – conference games

For the first round the tiebreaker will be utilized to seed teams within the scheduling pods. Since the teams within the scheduling pods will be playing three games against each other no mini-conference tiebreakers will be used.

Teams with first round byes will be reseeded into the overall conference standings once the First Round is completed.

If three or more teams are tied and all played the same number of games against one another, you would use the tiebreaker top to bottom as a mini-conference.

If three or more team are tied and all played an uneven amount of games, we will use the tiebreaker above, but break the teams up into a mini-mini-conference as stated below.

If three teams are tied and one team played two games against the other two, while the other two faced each other four times, we will break the teams that played four times and run the tiebreaker to see who would win that series. Then take the team that won that tiebreaker and pit them against the team that they played twice to see who would garner the higher seed. Then you take the final two teams and run the tiebreaker again to see who gains the next highest seed.

These statements strike me as odd. Did they not review their entire list of criteria against the new playoff format before releasing this? It is my understanding that they no longer break up into scheduling pods for first round playoff matchups like they did last year and the playoff seeds are 1 through 12, regardless of pod.

That was my understanding as well. There is a question in to the league for clarification.
