I have been to every game at the Ritter so far and didn't hear it until last night. Guess I'm too busy shouting to be able to hear it

either that, or because I am yelling to loud or clapping directly into your ear.

Not to toot my own horn... Well I guess it really is. From my preview:

Predictions
Friday: RIT 3, Sacred Heart 2
Saturday: RIT 5, Sacred Heart 3

Nailed the scores exact.

What? do you want a cookie for being right? I have lots of them.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

If you count the number of people that are going to show up at 7 PM on Saturday you might be right. We won't know this season, but I don't think they'd get 1,900 at 4 PM start while school is in session.

[raises hand sheepishly] :( Got to read the tickets more carefully. In my defense, I wasn't at the Friday game because I was still flying back from WA; presumably Rocky reminded everyone Friday that Saturday's game was early. Of course, I had lots of chances to figure it out, like when the guy blocking D lot for the "valet parking" told me "the girls are kicking ***" at 1-something. Must have been a small crowd, though, since I managed to walk to the SLC at about 3:30 without realizing that a game was about to start.

Bummer on the late arrival. I think it was a crowd of 1,200 on Saturday afternoon - higher than I anticipated. I still wonder if we would have reached 1,900 if school was in session and something tells me still no way.

I disagree. I think if school was in session we would have had no problem drawing 1900. There were a lot of people absent that would have otherwise been there, and we're talking more dedicated than your average fan. These break games are real inconvenient.

Really? I thought it was extremely disappointing. Shows how much RIT cares about marketing hockey.

I would attribute only part of it to marketing. Honestly, it was a nice day out for one thing, so people want to be outside doing things with their families. Second, because of its position on the Saturday of break week, most students are gone already. Only the dedicated few or those that live in the area, are still around Saturday for the game, whether it was afternoon or evening.

We will never have good attendance on break weekend games. It's just how it goes.

True, but it has been better in the past.

Saturday was a nice day? Does overcast count as a nice day now in Rochester as long as it doesn't snow? :)

Anyways the 4 pm start time was stupid and I am not a fan. I thought they did a good job with the youth hockey night on Friday getting 1500 fans to a game during a break week. That 1200 seems inflated to me considering how quiet it was in there. The whole reserve section was essentially empty and there really weren't too many people standing. I don't think we'll get away from games during school breaks but lets face it the student demographic at RIT isn't exactly "sports oriented" so we'll have to deal with small crowds during break periods. Compared to over AHA teams we can't really complain.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

RIT garnered 20 points in this week's national poll, putting the Tigers 23rd on the list. I believe this is the highest an AHA team has been ranked all year. I am not surprised it has taken this long, considering AHA's abysmal out-of-conference results. It should be interesting to see what happens to their ranking over the holiday weekend since RIT is idle.

That quote was after the first game. The second game is the one where RIT took those third period penalties.

SORRY MY BAD!!!!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

All this complaining about the game being at 4. It wasn't all that long ago we were having games on Tuesday Nights with so few people there the corner would follow the opposing goaltender to the other side for the 2nd period. And that was with school IN session.

Yes, I wish they could find a way to NOT have home games (or easily travel-able away games) on break weeks, but there has already been some improvement.

Looking at their current schedule, it looks like only 2 games will be hurt by lack of attendance as a result of the break week, and we just finished those 2 games so attendance should be great the rest of the way. If we switched to semester calendar as it has been rumored to be, it may hurt attendance for more games potentially...

On a side note, I have a question for you folks.. do you think RIT should schedule some Out of Conference games vs. teams like, Denver, Boston U, or North Dakota? It may generate more buzz if we play against more well-known teams.

That is easier said than done. There is really no incentive for those teams to play RIT, especially at Ritter. For the foreseeable future I think RIT is stuck playing virtually all of it's OOC games vs. ECAC and the weakest CCHA and HE teams. Certainly not powerhouse teams.

Should we? Yes. Will the other teams agree to play us? Probably not. We did play Minnesota, BU or BC (I can't keep them straight), and Cornell two seasons ago. Our best bet to play any of these teams is during the holiday tournament season. With their top players in the world junior championship we'll have a better shot at beating them too. That's how we won over Minnesota.

And if we do manage to play any of the "big name schools" it'll be in their barn.

I think our best bet is to make the NCAA tournament if we want more exposure.

Air Force was ranked in the pre-season poll. But if you only count the actual season, I think you are correct.

Here is another look at the impact exams and breaks will have on RIT's entire season. There is still some significant impact down the road...

FALL

Nov. 16,17,18,19,20 Final exams—day classes - RIT plays @ Home against Sacred Heart November 20, 21.

WINTER

February 19 Last day classes - RIT plays @ Home against Air Force February 19, 20.
Feb. 22,23,24,25,26 Final exams—day classes RIT plays @ Home against Canisius February 26, 27
Feb. 28 - Mar. 7 Winter/Spring break Possible First Round of Atlantic Hockey Playoffs March 7

Most concerning is the winter schedule, where the games against Air Force and Canisius will likely determine playoff positions and bragging rights. And if history is any indication you can bet the band will not be at any of these games either - which will dampen the atmosphere a good bit. Last year the idea of assembling the band during a break came up a bit too late. Who can grease the skids with them now to see if they can plan on being at any of these games?
