(Note: we are moving in that general direction with the Patriot League, etc.)

I'm pretty sure you mean the Liberty League, unless you have some super secret information that you are now forced to share. :D

Sorry. I knew "Patriot" sounded wrong when I typed it, but I was lazy. Liberty it is.

Patriots ... Liberty .... yada yada ... let's play hockey!!!!:)

I have very little super secret information. Although they did mention a new ice arena as one of the ideas in the 2025 planing process ... I sure hope it doesn't take that long.

I figured that's what you meant. Patriot is a DI conference, so I was curious if maybe there was a full DI discussion prior to the NCAA's moratorium. I know a move to DI was looked at, but from what I've heard it never made it that far. At least not far enough to consider a conference.

Now back to hockey mode!

There has been a little discussion of full D1, but from what I've heard the plan is to stick with just men's and women's hockey at D1 for the foreseeable future. Of course, plans change.

Thanks, Scott. But isn't that even crazier. I like the general idea that low PIM's/game is a good thing, but there is such a thing as a good penalty and, taking penalties isn't necessarily a sign of poor sportsmanship. Maybe counting the # of 5 and 10 min. penalties would be part. I guess I just see sportsmanship as something that happens both on and off the ice and I wouldn't put Army at the top of the list based on my limited knowledge of AHA games this year (I freely admit I didn't see them all!). Just off the top of my head, I'd put AIC, SHU, AFA, and maybe even Bentley up there. Seems this would be the perfect kind of award to be voted on by the coaches.

As for sportsmanship - it cannot be measured in PIMs alone.

One thing I noticed about UConn last weekend - there was not a whole lot of 'coming together' after whistles in either end. They tended to control themselves between whistles, which I find admirable. Considering their season was on the line they managed their emotions well.

You won't find that this afternoon - Canisius likes to stir the pot. Lets hope if they do they have a steady parade to the penalty box.

Westisde - all I will say about your expectations is that there is no way you would have thought RIT would be at that point before the move. I'm sure after the sucessful year 2 that expectations would be raised. But my opinion is that those expectations are too high for a program that is still building.

My belief is that RIT is moving in the right direction. I think this is the year RIT wins the tournament to get to the big dance.

RIT will need to be smart to not be goaded into Canisius's game and let the Grigs take those penalties

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Just got back from the RIT-Canisius game - RIT dominated. Despite the fact it seems that the one referee Sweeney had it out for RIT in the second period and called multiple weak calls, RIT was never even threatened even though they were down 2 men and then down 1 man almost the entire period. I never complain about the refs, but Sweeney is one of the weakest refs I have ever seen in competitive hockey. He called two of the worst penalties on RIT in 2nd period - 1 on Burt who got in the other skaters lane and tried to avoid him, but still was called for interference. That penalty wouldnt have been called in Mites. The other an extremely lilly call on Favot for hooking - my mens league hockey lets worse go. And then, he doesnt call a penalty in which McReynolds gets his helmet ripped off right in front of him and another when I saw him clearly look when Canisius defensemen cross checked an RIT players head into the ice behind the play. He looked the other way - he is awful what a complete DB of a ref.

On a different note, I saw Sacred Heart brought their own band - they were setting up at the other end when I switched to watch RIT shoot on the other goal period 2. I think thats pretty cool, I hope Sacred Heart wins - not only because AF has kind of a mental advantage at BCA but also to see dueling bands for the final. That will really fuel the atmosphere tomorrow night, can't wait!

I want to congratulate RIT on their win today !!! You guys are playing really well.Keep focused and I think you can do what AF did last year. You have a good all around team !! KEEP FOCUSED !! Congrats on the AHA awards. Please tell me how Canisus ans SH got guys on for defensive awards.Their defense SUCKED !! RIT has a great all around team.SH and Canisus have **** defensemen...fact.Their offenses carried them !! The goalie from Hc was "ROBBED" for all rookie team. HC had a very good defense and their goalie beat out the SH goalie...in EVERY STAT !! HE deserved it...HC did not win many games...not the D's fault.Someone should have been recognized on this year's list! Good Luck RIT.Make AHA Proud...Good Luck Sat.night !

Bye-bye Air Force! First lost in BCA for Air Force! RIT is taking on Sacred Heart. RIT won season series 3-1 over SHU. Bring it on!

Yeah, Legatto had worse stats, except for the whole 5 wins in 6 games thing. Good call.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

I only stayed for the first period, but SHU matched up much better against AF than I expected. I was impressed with SHU, but I'd take the matchup with them over AF, only because I think RIT is likely to be a bit more confident against them given their past positive history versus them, versus the rocky history versus AF over the years. And, yeah, SHU always brings their band, so the atmosphere will be better too.

A real nice win today against Canisius -- they were in control the whole way. RIT gave up very little in the third and really shut the door, which was nice to see. Crowd was about what I expected at 1,803, but the atmosphere wasn't bad considering, and tomorrow will be significantly better.

SHU certainly has some speed, so we'll see how RIT does containing it tomorrow. I expect a good battle at the BCA.

So, not that it matters, but nobody is talking about the first goal (by McReynolds, was it?) that the refs missed in the first period? It certainly looked to me like it went in and out off the top shelf. The good folks running the video at the BCA agreed enough to run the replay, during play, before the next stoppage, and the replay seemed to corroborate my first impression.

Does the AHA not have video review in the rules? Should we be nice and bring the refs some glasses or a seeing eye dog?

I don't believe the AHA has replay.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

I saw the replay on B2 and it looked like it bounced off the underneath part of the crossbar, so I thought the call was right. In all fairness, B2 is grainy so I could be wrong.

As for the RIT-SHU matchup, I was at the game in Milford where Sacred Heart beat RIT. It took a blown call and a ridiculous point blank save by Legatto for the Pios to get the win. With that being said, I was impressed at how they finished their hits against the Tigers. I was not impressed with Legatto except for the one save. Sounds like he was good yesterday, but when I saw him he didn't seem to have good control on his rebounds.

I don't expect RIT to have an easy time getting bodies in front of the net for deflections like they did against Canisius. SHU has good scoring depth and their top lines can be problematic for the Tigers. However, the big difference between these two teams is defense and goaltending. The Tigers D and DiMichiel are clearly better than the Pioneers (granted they held Air Force scoreless until they brought on an extra attacker). Should be a good one tonight.
