Not for nothing, but wouldn't these be more appropriate for AIC or UCONN? :) :)

Seriously though, Nice to see community recognition and support for the Tigers.

So any thoughts on this coming season? What do you think about the goal tending situation? Can we make up for the people we lost? How far do you think we'll go this season?

We'll make it to BCA, easy, and from there anyone could win at any time. We know we can win at the BCA now so with that monkey off our backs, the sky's the limit.

RIT men's hockey picked first in Atlantic Hockey poll

RIT, which stunned the college hockey world by reaching the Frozen Four last April, is the pick to repeat as Atlantic Hockey Association champions in the preseason coaches poll released at Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial this morning.

Rochester Institute of Technology received eight of 12 first-place votes and 118 total points. Mercyhurst is second with 101 points and two first-place votes, followed by Air Force (98) and AHA newcomers Niagara and Robert Morris, tied for fourth with 82 points. Robert Morris received two first-place votes.

"We realize we will be a marked team, and that's fine," said RIT athletic director Lou Spiotti Jr., speaking on behalf of coach Wayne Wilson who missed the conference's media day with an illness.
Rounding out the poll are Canisius (63), Sacred Heart (61), Holy Cross (60), Army (48), Bentley (47), Connecticut (21) and American International (11).

RIT finished 28-12-1 last year, setting a school record for wins in a season. The Tigers toppled Denver and New Hampshire in the NCAA Division I Tournament before losing 8-1 to Wisconsin in a national semifinal in Detroit.
RIT opens the season Oct. 8 against St. Cloud (Minn.) State in Omaha, Neb. The “home” opener is Oct. 16 against Massachusetts-Lowell at Blue Cross Arena.

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

I think that Niagara will be a major competitor in Atlantic Hockey this year and will challenge RIT for the Atlantic Hockey crown.

They will be in the running for sure, but may be surprise how good the top of the conference is in talent. Here are the most for RIT this year as far as I see it.

1) Cameron Burt and Tyler Brenner one or both need and should be a 20 Goal scorer. Favot will need another 40 point season. Those three on a line would be tops in the league, but I would think too much scoring on one line. Like to see them on the power play together.

2) In my time RIT has never lost so much at the Blue Line, Ringwald was great, but seeing him with Tanev made me regert that we could not see those two play together for 4 years. Well now Tanev is gone, I thought he could have been a conference POTY easy. And Muzar is gone as well. There is talent at the blue line, but a freshman defenseman has to step up big time.

3) Would the real RIT Goaltender please stand up. The biggest question is in goal. An seldom tested sophmore or a big size freshman. One of the big reason that RIT went as far as they did come playoff time was that DeMike took RIT GAA that was north of 5 and brought it down to 2.28 if you admit the Wisconsin crash it was 1.333.

I wouldn't say easy (unless by we, you mean fans since that IS easy). If RIT does not finish top two of the WESTERN pod, they play in the play in round. And the West is loaded.

I'm wondering if we'll see Madalora get the nod. What little time I saw him play in net was impressive. I don't see Jan getting any play, which is too bad because he's been with the team for awhile. Unfortunately, I think that his size in net is a problem; otherwise, it seems that he's tried hard every time he's been given an opportunity to play in a game.

Then again, who knows, maybe the frosh will prove the best man for the job.

Chris Tanev is now playing in the split squad game against Calgary in Vancouver. Did Pinner ever get the chance in the Caps camp, or is this the first time a former Tiger has played in an NHL game?

Bring on the big guy, he could be the next 'Jimmy Howard'!

I'm not too worried about the offense but I'm interested to see how the new guys add to that. Defense could be good or so-so...I think it all depends on what the freshmen we got add.

I agree the biggest question is in goal, I'm not sure what to think about this. Goaltending could be the difference between us winning the conference and not even making the final 4. I don't think we'll be seeing Jan play...Chris looked decent last year, but if we want to come back strong we'll need him to step up, and I'm really interested to see how the freshmen is.

On another note...10 days until the season starts! Can we hit the 1000 post mark to close out this thread?!

Not sure, but after reading more of the NUck impressions of him, Iam getting more and more ****ed my Devils didnt sign him.
Tanev seems to be #3 on the D prospects for them now, even though he out played both Polasek and Connauton. He's a year older than both i believe also, but it is the first Preseason game.

They are noticing his smooth skating and ice awareness. He was a -1 last night, but i didnt get to see the goal.

They're our Devils, and I can't agree more. They need some D coming up the pipeline, and they need it cheap.

According to this article:

http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/...ucks+sudden+blueline+depth/3248342/story.html

Tanev received offers from 4 teams beside Vancouver, (San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Washington Capitals and Ottawa Senators) but decided on the Canucks because he knows Vancouvers player-development guy, having skated with his son in Juniors. Sounds like New Jersey didn't even come to the party.

They do need it cheap, but they have some amazing talent on the D side coming up. Urbom is gonna make the team this year...Bank on it. He is already playing regularly with Tallinder(like Meyers in Buf last year+he's a Swede!). Corrente has waited patiently and should be the 6/7 d-man. Then out of the rest:
Eckford, still waiting for this kid, but as a 7th rounder he seems to b solid. His time has to be now, he'll get a few call-ups like he did last year
Gelinas: will spend more time in the Q this year, he's on a bad team, so his stats don't tell the story. has great O upside and good size
Toarmina: came out of Nowhere (Providence-Lou's Breeding ground) and was a pleasant surprise
Then the College kids: Merril (Offensive Mich) , Burlon(solid all around game mich), TJ(tyler now N mich) Miller, Joe Faust (fresh at Wisc)
So i can see why they didn't go for Tanev.

The only reason i could see Urbom not making the team is in favor of Eckford's Salary being @ 300K lower...I wish Fraser would be gone he is not needed with the D depth, and Salvador is likely gonna be gone. So there is one reqal spot available, and a #7 spot until Salmela gets back from Knee injury..

Sorry for Devs Talk, but i can go on for quite a while....

With Vancouvers history of D-men getting injured it was probably a good choice. Your right, i remember hearing a blurb at one point about him and Dave Ganger or something...

Edit: Played with Sam when he was younger
Tanev had played against Sam Gagner growing up in the Toronto area and knew his father Dave, who is now director of player development with the Canucks. It was Dave Gagner who convinced Tanev, 20, to sign with Vancouver this past spring. Tanev has had a terrific start to his camp. On Monday night, he set up one goal off a long rush and then scored one of his own in Vancouver’s 5-3 win over San Jose.
