With regards to season tickets, the amerks team the panthers are icing looks (so far) to be a big bust this year. They've traded away a lot of top talent to save some bucks. Hopefully, for RIT's benefit, the amerks fans jumping ship maybe will swim over to the ritter and pick up a nice season package.

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

I expect that there will certainly be a bump in season ticket sales due to last season's run. I don't know if Amerks regulars would jump right in to seasons, but they could certainly be inclined to take in a game or two. The other problem in "converting" Amerks fans is that that several of the teams in the AHA are not household names in Rochester. They would have to be told that an RIT-Sacred Heart series is big because they never heard of Sacred Heart. Also, the D&C does not print the conference standings for casual sports fans to know how RIT is doing.

Wow. There is one simple suggestion that could make a lot of difference in perception. Does anyone have the ear of sports information and/or the D&C to try to make this happen (at least on Fridays when previews are in and Sundays when the series are over). It could also help build interest in the championships at BCA since people could casually follow the season results without putting in any effort to seek them out.

Except that no one reads the paper anymore. Which is why the D&C, and its staff, has gotten smaller. Less space and fewer reporters means it would be even tougher to get any more information in there. Between NBA, College BBall, Section V, NHL, AHL, Knighthawks, Lancers and Razorsharks, the boxscore / standings section on page 2 is pretty full. That's not to say they shouldn't put AHA stuff in there, but it would be tough to convince them (whomever is left) to do so.

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

Yeah, I know. But can't a guy dream. Somebody must be buying the paper still; I wonder who???

Back when I did read a paper, I did look at all those tables, etc. of other leagues, other sports, etc. That was where I learned about a lot of sports. Of course that was pre-internet. What is the equivalent now? I don't read about anything random much anymore. E.g., when I read about RIT hockey, I will find those articles, read them and then move on to whatever other topic I am searching for. Random news/sports at the local level is fairly nonexistent for me. I guess the TV news occasionally and then it's SportsCenter for random national stuff.

OK, rant over. "Get off my lawn!";)

Ha, RIT Online executive MBA banner ad on top of page!!!

I thought the same thing, then I noticed that that banner is programmed to occasionally change based on what threads you go to. I went to the Penn State D-I thread and the banner was an add for Nittany Lion merchandise. So we're only being nationally advertised to those who bother to go to the RIT thread.

Context-sensitive targeted advertising?!

Crazy. Didn't think we'd see that until, like, 2007 or something :p ;)

Not related to RIT hockey, but:

Boston Bruins vs Florida Panthers preseason game at Blue Cross Arena on Thursday 9/23 at 7pm...just a heads up for any hockey fans who want to catch a game before RIT's season. Tickets went on sale yesterday through ticketmaster and range from like $19-$48.

Brennan Sarazin has signed with the Florida Everblades.

Sarazin comes to the Everblades after spending the 2009-10 season in France with Strasbourg, where he tallied 18 points (7g, 11a) and 44 penalty minutes in 26 games. The 26-year-old was teammates at Strasbourg with Bobby Raymond, who signed with the Everblades earlier this offseason. The two also played together in college at Rochester Institute of Technology.

“Brennan is a real good multi-purpose player who is very good defensively,” Poss said. “He’s strong at the front of the net, and gets most of his production from there. He’s also a smart player when he doesn’t have the puck, and we’re excited to see him take the experience he gained in France last year and move forward in our program.”

Just as a quick note to anyone planning on buying season tickets on September 1st:

That day is also freshmen move-in day for the campus. Traffic is going to be completely re-routed around campus and the only real "general" access you will have is to be to enter from the west side of the campus on East River road and park in G/H lots.

D Lot near the field house will be completely shut down for move-in day.

I think U/J/T/E/F might also be available, but I cannot recall off of the top of my head. Either way the main entrance, Lowenthal road, Wiltsie and Perkins will all be in use specifically for the move-in process.

Hope this saves someone some aggravation at least.

I decided not to renew my web site hosting contract. Everything I did for the Corner Crew site will now be on Facebook.

So what is the deal with a new Arena? The Ritter is going to turn a ton of frustrated fans away this year. Are there any announcements going to be made?

Come on Destler, I know you made got the funding for a huge Maryland basketball Arena.

Differant economic times. Rochester isn't exactly a boom town either.

The upgrades to the Ritter are a precursor to a new arena. That was the big capital campaign last season for hockey. I'd be curious if someone ran the numbers of what the average attendance was at the Ritter. If the number was constantly 1800+ then there is certainly a need.

I know that USCHO keeps track of attendance numbers, but I couldn't find the numbers for last year since they updated it for the coming season. If I remember correctly though, I know that we had an average on there that was near 1700 or so.

USCHO considers the BCA a home game so that was a HUGE boost in attendance average since there were over 7400 fans at that game.

Ok I looked - the average for regular season games at the Ritter was 1785.8 last season. Very impressive numbers. It was boosted by 5 sellouts. Surprisingly, the Canisius games were not as well attended as you would expect. Air Force and Niagara scored well. The low water mark was a Saturday afternoon game against Sacred Heart where only 1206 attended. The best string was 3 straight sellouts.
