RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

The disheartening part was that Chuck Wade actually pronounced it the same way it was spelled on the screen... as though he had never heard of they guy before and was just reading copy. He and Catalana have talked about the Tigers numerous times this season and last. You think he'd know better. Turns out he's just going through the motions when covering the Tigers. Oh well. At least we know what we've got here, whether anyone else does or not.

Even if he knew Madalora's name, I wouldn't be surprised if he still made the mistake. Teleprompter reading is a strange beast.

The only interesting team on the OOC schedule, for me, was Wisconsin. Be great if we could get them do a return trip to the BCA but I highly doubt that. If we make it to play UV in their tournament that would be cool as well

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Anyone else see 13Wham News sports last night at 6:00? For a channel that seems to be all about covering the Tigers, I was a little disheartened to see on the screen that RIT Tiger goaltender Maladora won the AHA goaltender of the week. Now I can certainly understand a typo now and then. Who among us hasn't mis-spelled something occasionally? The disheartening part was that Chuck Wade actually pronounced it the same way it was spelled on the screen... as though he had never heard of they guy before and was just reading copy. Didn't see it but I will give them a bit of a pass since they do cover RIT. I know I've pronounced and typed his name that way.

I suspect that they probably did just read the copy without thinking. I don't think it's that big a deal. Only us diehards would notice a small thing like that.

Imagine what Barry Melrose would do to his name.

Most likely RIT will be paired with Vermont in the first round.

Looks like the Catamount Cup is a fixed schedule affair so RIT might not see Vermont (e.g., Army is there this year and gets to play OSU and Harvard, but not UVM).

Considering Scott Biggar is still (rarely) pronouncing it "Madoloro" doing play-by-play, I'll give Chuck Wade a pass. =)

Speaking of goalies......is it time to stop the 'goalie' merry-go-round and pick a starter for the rest of the season?

It's not a goalie merry-go-round. I believe Coach wants a Friday/Saturday rotation. I'm thinking Madalora is Friday but the question becomes who is the Saturday goalie?

That may be true. I'm wondering why not just have Madolora as the starter?

I am wondering that too. I am a believer that if a team has two starting goalies then they have one too many.

I agree but as always injuries can happen so the coach may want to give some playing time to the other goalies to keep them as sharp as possible in the likelihood of injuries..

Destler was on WITR and chatted a bit about the new arena. He said he thinks fund raising for the arena stands under $2 million right now. He also mentioned some of the proposed sites- South of Global Village and between Gordon Field House and the Ritter.

would be nice if the power play site had a realtime update or something along those lines pertaining to the fundraising.. I like the latter proposed site, but I think a more feasible site would be the area next to the practice field as it would help with parking, since the arena will be significantly larger and can accommodate more people, esp the community who are driving to the campus. If you ask me, another area to build the arena would be over the rugby field, knock the trees out or move those trees somewhere else and potentially put the arena there.

I that Madolora is making a strong case for himself in that he has yet to lose a game. I do think right now he is the most talented of the 3 goaltenders. Ropponen has had a good season and should pick up some starts here and there, but I think might be best suited to be the #2.

Of course, if Jan beats Mercyhurst, I will consider changing my mind. :)

I like both of those sites.

South of Global Village must mean on top of Southern Riverknoll, as I doubt they'd put it on top of S lot or the Greek housing. Build a parking garage on S lot and you solve the lack of parking issue for the campus too. Plus, Global Village turns even more into a hub--the college town Park Point fails to be.

Building between GFH and the Ritter would keep most of the sports clustered together still, which is nice, and it would shelter that bridge from icy crosswinds. Building there would mean we could keep the U [SUCK] lot announcements, though U lot would also benefit from becoming U ramp. Having the two ice rinks near each other would probably be nice for people using them, too, as you could more easily move between them. Also, they could build on top of the new locker rooms, effectively building onto Ritter Arena--hey, maybe they could even keep the Ritter name, then, and just have two different names for the rinks inside!

rit will not be building onto ritter arena, too costly.. besides if you build the new arena across the street from D lot, both buildings will be close enough together and also take advantage of being close for either the apt or dorm students to go to the games and all the parking lots there to help with the parking for those in the community..

Not building on to expand that rink, but butting the walls right up next to each other, like what the fieldhouse did to the existing gym. Leave the current rink as-is, just build around it.

Got your point. that is not going to work out, especially since the area around ritter is parking lots, and rit is not going to even consider doing that. Destler even noted that multiple sites have been looked at and I highly doubt he is willing to do what you proposed..its either going to be in 3 or 4 areas and will most likely be a stand alone facility.

I say they've had enough playing time already. Now lets focus on getting wins.

We have room in those places?
