RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Don't forget we also lost Matic and Alexin who were great penality killing forwards themselves.

I, for one, did forget... (no idea why)
OK, FOUR Words:
Ringwald
Matic
Alexin
Tanev
(and of course, DeMichiel)

Although, like I said, I'd prefer they not take so many penalties, they've always taken more than their fair share of penalties. But up until this season, they've also been able to kill an awesome percentage of them off anyhow due to the four (five) guys listed above. That was one hell of a # 1 PK unit right there. That standard is going to be hard to live up to for anyone.
Reducing the number of penalties is fine, but until they learn how to actually kill off power plays at a reasonable percentage, they're going to be in trouble. Hopefully, as the goalies get some more experience under their belts, they can steal a few PK's here and there to pick up the slack for the defense.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Having noticed that RIT has two MORE forwards committed for next year, and one more for '12, I have to think that this is either a departure from the "replacement" strategy of recruitment, or anticipation that underclassmen may be leaving the program after the current season. Could it also be that last year's success has engendered much more interest, and the program is absorbing as many talented players as possible? None of these thoughts is mutually exclusive.

according to heisenberg's list its 4 forwards, + 1 center, + 1 defenseman, +1 center for next year.

I could be wrong but our roster feels 1-2 players short this year compared to past years - only 14 forwards and 7 defensemen, which doesn't leave us much room for error in terms of injury. Obviously a bigger roster can come with issues re: balancing ice time, but adding 1-2 more than we lose next season might be a good idea.

now i am no hockey expert, but that can't be a good thing for winning hockey games.

Just a note on the statistic of penalty minutes... RIT has only played 5 conference games, which included the one against UCONN with the 5-on-5 scuffle that produced a few 10 minute majors, boosting the per-game PM average. Notice which team is in second place on that list... UCONN. They've played more games than RIT (7), so their average has been watered down closer to the pack.
Nonetheless, the PK is still a problem. Just thought I'd point that out.

McReynold's being a strong part of the Tiger's PK is laughable, as he never seems to pass up a chance for a stupid, unnecessary penalty.

He's gotten better as he has been here. He's gotten smater about when to take penalties. I noticed that about midway through last season.

Actually RIT has one extra defenseman than they did last year. When Eck got hurt they also lost another defenseman who's name is escaping me right now, because that kid decided to leave school.

On the Freshman Front

Colaveccia is the best forward, I think Lynch has been the second best with Mitchell not far behind. No problems upfront. And I think many of the young defenseman will come around. They are getting a trial by fire education this year. What is more dissapointing to me on the blue line is the guys who returned from last year. I think they all have struggled this year.

I hope Watson gets a chance this weekend. He really has yet to play again where either he is healthy and the team infront of him played well.

Also Komey, you have to me a favor and asked Coach Wilson in your midseason interview why Hartley is on the point so much on the Power Play. I think he is our best face off man and with his size I'd like to see him closer to the net. I understand it more now with Burt and Haltigin out, but even early in the season he was on the point. I wonder if that will change when guys get healthy...

Riley Clark? I could be wrong but that seems to be ringing a bell to me.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Picked up tickets to Army vs Niagara for Saturday, why couldn't the Tigers be at West Point this weekend, sigh!

btw, what happened to riley? was he a freshman last year (confused on almost all parts)
He was a freshman '08-'09. I remember him only playing in the US under 18 exhibition game(he actually started), so he was probably redshirted that year. He's in the team photo for last season(at least I assume- there are 25 players in the pic and only 24 names on the roster) and only played in the exhibition game against York. So he must have decided early in the season it wasn't working out and left the team.

They want a right-handed shot. All the defenseman are lefties.

Anyone else watching on B2 and having video problems?

Yes, I submitted a ticket, got a response saying they are working on it. If you go to the main b2 feed it says the broadcast has been "delayed"...
