RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

I just want to say thanks to the officials for callings things both ways.

Not.

How Saracino gets a 10 minute misconduct and Knowlton doesn't for essentially the same penalty is beyond me. Both were violent hits from behind and both should have been called the same way.

I appreciate "letting the boys play", but a little consistency would be nice. This game was sloppy and chippy, and a little officiating could have fixed that. We should not have to worry about losing players due to grossly illegal play. Take the whistles out and keep the players safe on both sides.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

I'm interested to see how next weekend turns out. I'm hoping the Tigers don't underestimate AIC, especially after what they pulled at Mercyhurst this weekend. Anyone else going to the games?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

I wasn't able to listen to the game today, so did anyone here how Burt is? Was he playing today or is he out for now after that hit yesterday?

Who took the bad hit from Knowlton?

Burt's back in the lineup, but playing defense, as both Haltigan and Eckenswiller were out. He actually filled the scoresheet a bit - 2 assists and 10 penalty minutes.....and -3. He did not look comfortable at all on defense.

This was actually a really chippy game, but there wasn't that horrendously cheap hit tonight like the one Burt took on Friday. I remember Knowles getting hit from behind and being a litte slow to get up, but it didn't look that bad at all.

Anyway, crazy point tonight. Scoring two goals with your goalie pulled doesn't exactly happen every day. It may have been a light crowd, but it was rocking after they tied it up. But with Spivak suspended for next Friday's game, we better pray at least one of Eckenswiller or Haltigan get healthy....who's the next forward to convert?

And to darkSabre, the misconduct to Saracino was for mouthing off afterwards, it wasn't a product of the initial hit. I think it for smacking his blade against the glass of the penalty box after he finally went in.

The 10 was for throwing his stick in the penalty box.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Just some thoughts on the weekend

The PK looked better. I still love the speed Cornacchia and Knowles bring but McReynolds did a fairly good job. I know some love the shot blocking but on Friday night he took one off the foot on the 5-3 and was limping around. Luckily we cleared it out but that essentially took us down to 2 players

Whatever we say about McReynolds I'm not sure any other player has more heart than him right now. Good to see the Coach recognize that and put him out on at the end of the game Saturday night

With Haltigan and Eckenswiller out Saracino has really stepped up. He has always been solid but how bad the power play look when he was in the box for his misconduct?

If we lose one more defensemen to injury we are in big trouble (especially if its Saracino or Spivak). Right now we only have 2 upper classmen left on D. I'm not going to count Burt. The coaching staff was really relying on him but he was making some bad choices. Several times we got caught out of position or there were blown coverages. With 3 freshman d and a Burt back there its showing

Solid games by both goal tenders. I can't fault them for any soft goals especially Ropponen.

I keep wondering why Potts is always scratched. Every time he plays I like what I see. I think he is better than Lynch or Smith

Brenner just keeps getting better, starting to really use his size now. Since he was a redshirt his freshman year is this going to be another surprise graduation?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

More thoughts on the weekend.

The Tigers came out fired up on Friday night, but the 2nd and 3rd periods of that game were sloppy and disorganized on both sides. I don't see how SHU could take much from playing RIT 1-1 over that span.

Last night's game was a much better display of hockey. Again, the Tigers really dominated the first period, but had nothing to show for it. The "overexcited" misplay by the goaltender in the first 18 seconds did set a tone. PK was much better, but it's important to note that SHU had several odd-man rushes on the counterattack, including that 2-on-1 for the shortie. The 2nd was inconclusive, but SHU had the momentum in the 3rd, except for the last two minutes. The suggestion from the radio crew in the postgame that RIT didn't really "deserve" the tie was incorrect IMO. Overall, it was a fairly even game, though momentum did shift, and if the final score is 3-3, then you deserve it. One last thought: you want your best scorer on the ice, and not taking ill-advised boarding penalties with one second left in the period.

Well, to rescue this from page 2...

Keep an eye on the Women's D-III poll today, folks. The women's team is the real deal this year, and look like they could beat any women's D-III team in the country right now.

I admit that I don't follow women's hockey pretty much at all but when I saw Amherst was ranked #1 with only 2 games played something seems screwy. I assume they are the reigning national champs?

On the men's front I can't believe AIC got the brooms out on Mercyhurst. The boys better be real careful this weekend we sure as hell need these confernece points. We have 4-5 conference games in hand on the likes of Robert Morris but we gotta turn that into points!

This would be a correct assumption.

Twice consecutively, in fact. 13 of the 15 voters wouldn't knock them out of the #1 spot until they lost, which was good news for them since they didn't start playing until week 4.

With the recent goings on at Mercyhurst, it would not surprise me if the rest of the team was a tad distracted. On the positive side, that they did that should mean that RIT will not take them lightly. Now if they can get some of their defensemen healthy...

If you're refering to RIT it seems like the interview, i just listened to on facebook, coach thinks Eckenswiller and Haltigan would be back this weekend.

I can see Mercyhurst dropping maybe 1 game because of the distractions but then bouncing back. Seems like the come from behind loss on Friday might have deflated them (or they just ran into a really hot goalie). I can see this being a potential trap game for RIT but we'll see

I agree, that kind of thing players always say they don't think about, but you know they do. Look at Plattsburgh back in the D-III days they had a couple incidents like the one going on in Erie and all most every incident resulted in a losing streak...

Brenner is the best overal player on the team this year in my opinion. Burt gets a lot of press and is the best play maker, but Brenner has the best shot and the physical ability to skate with anyone. Many times this year teams have had no chance in taking him off the puck. That all being said he is def the number one guy I worry about early depature, I hope he finishes his Senior year next year cause I a very sure that team will be much better than this team which should be right in the thick of things all year...

Actually I can tell you for sure that was not the case. I was standing right by the penalty boxes at the top row and could hear everything being said. Foote actually said the ten was for what he said to him, which wasn't much. I really thought it was a poor officiating job on Saturday on two guys who I normally don't have any problems with. Both of them looked very ****y when they came out on the ice, Foote normally smiles all game, but looked like he just broke up or something. I have heard some feedback on Foote from other league officials that he is a good ref, but tends to over offciate at times. I think he fall into that trap Sat. My biggest problems Sat were not what was called, but what wasn't call especially in the OT. In the first minute Tyler Brenner was clutched and grab more than once. Two minutes later puck in the RIT zone, same grab and the arms goes up.

Also the AHA needs to start looking at some of their linesmen even more that the orange strip zebres. They have two or three linesmen who I think do a great job. Tory Carissimo always does a great job and I love his hustle. But some guys have just been crazy latley. Last two years I have found myself yelling at linesmen thinking, come on they are just linesmen I never yell at them. As a wiseman said recently its really been a mystery this year with offsides and icings...

I think the shots on goal were something like 35-15 in favor of the Lakers. They certainly didn't lose due to a lack of effort.

I was at the game. The 35-15 shots snuck up on me, though especially in the 3rd. AIC hit two posts, and got lucky on two shots by Mercyhurst in the 3rd. AIC was way too much on its heels in the third. Though except for small lapses, Mercyhurst didn't have high quality chances until the 5 minute penalty at the end of the game.

I know this is going to make everyone cry...

Brennan Serville of the Stouffville Spirit who is on the NHL’s players to watch list for the 2011 draft recently decommitted to Canisius College this fall. Is anyone really surprised he turned down a full ride at Canisius???
