Little something about pinner.

French lauded Pinizzotto for his play Saturday and Sunday against Adirondack. He delivered big hits and was a strong presence on the penalty kill.

But don’t forget the pretty goal he scored Saturday.

“I think that goal is a bit of a highlight of what Steve’s capable of offensively,” French said. “He’s got a good shot. For me, I was really pleased with his two home games. It was more back to how he needs to play. Everything was built around his physical, intense game. From that, he gets offensive chances because he’s so involved in the game.”

Pinizzotto skated out from behind the net and picked a top left corner. His 2010-11 aim is to break career highs for goals (13) and points (41), and he’s got two goals in seven games.

“I got a little patient with the puck,” Pinizzotto said. “It kind of opened up, and I just went upstairs with it. That was a good goal. It’s always good to score to get your confidence going, right?”

3 goalie rotations rarely work well. I think Madolora might get into a game or two - perhaps against an AIC or UConn. But not much more than that unless Ropponen or Watson are hurt or show they cannot handle the job. Watson does not have good numbers, but his defense has not helped him any either.

well. I like the idea of Watson and rope. Ropponen as a senior deserves to play imo (plus he's playing pretty well) and Watson has really big star potential (more so than madalora), so he should be getting starts to help him adjust and improve.

I don't think two goalie rotations work well. If RIT doesn't have a clear #1 netminder soon then I think they are in trouble. Not that a second goalie shouldn't get in a few games but someone needs to step up and take the #1 job.

and if it's someone, my hope is that it's watson!

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

As an official in another sport I can tell there is a rule and there is an interpretation and there are times you may make the right call to the letter of the law, but you made a bad call.

This is how it was explained to me.

"There is an enormous amount of judgment involved in the application of this rule by the Referees. The onus is on the player applying the check to ensure his opponent is not in a vulnerable position and if so, he must avoid the contact. However, there is also a responsibility on the player with the puck to avoid placing himself in a dangerous and vulnerable position. This balance must be considered by the Referees when applying this rule."

We can quote rules till we are blue in the face. Fact is that any check is a collision and a collision is two or more moving bodies (colliding bodies) exert relatively strong forces on each other for a relatively short time. A strong force is pretty violent don't you think??

Strong fact is that they don't always call it that way, how many times do you see a guy run a guy as hard as they can into to end boards after he has cleared the puck. And this player had the puck and was skating away from the boards! Who the heck wrote this rule in the frist place it worded way different than the NHL book, what Eck suppose to do lighly tape him just cause he is skating into the boards? They keep doing this crap in Football not hockey too, man when I am an old man I am going to be able to tell me grand kids back in my day they let us hit each other.

I've seen that hit 100 times, I never seen it called boarding, if they are going to do that they better do it consitantly. But I still say that a bad idea

It's actually not worded differently at all in the NHL rulebook. Neither says anything about the hit having to come from behind to be a boarding call.

That said, from the descriptions I've heard of the hit, it probably shouldn't have been called...it was frustrating listening to the early part of the radio broadcast with the early penalties and a couple no calls going the other way.

Couldn't we say the same about all the goalies? What makes Madolora the #3?

Ropponen as a senior deserves to play imo (plus he's playing pretty well)

Year has nothing to do with it, the best player deserves to play.

Didn't we use a two goalie rotation when we won the league?

So what? I could, if I wanted to, find some of examples of a two goalie rotation that works well. But any knowledgeable hockey person knows that is the exception not the rule. With what I have heard (haven't seen the Tigers yet although I will on Saturday night) one of these guys needs to step up their play and become the #1. From the sounds of it they are playing more like #2-#3 goalies. Not horrible, but certainly not great either.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

It depends on the quality of goaltenders. When RIT won the league with a two goalie rotation, they were two very good goalies. I think Coach Wilson is still trying to find out who the best goalies on the team are. Based on the early results, Ropponen is the best goalie on the team. From what I have heard, Watson has done fairly well, but has not really had a chance due to the defensemen issues. If last weekend's rotation holds up, Watson will get to go against Cornell - so the level of competition he has faced is far better than anything he will see in league play.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Just saw this Article on Tahoo from the Province. Since Vancouver is having injury issues, there may be a possibility Tanev gets a call-up.
http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Moose+Connauton+Sweatt+Tanev+Oberg+could+fill+Canucks+stopgap+defence/3743281/story.html

When Andrew Alberts tweaked his knee Tuesday night it raised an interesting question the Vancouver Canucks are hoping they won't have to answer.

That is who might be the next call up if Alberts can't go and neither Keith Ballard nor Dan Hamhuis is able to play Monday night against the New Jersey Devils.

Well happily there are four players down there who could, if needed, come up and put in some stopgap minutes for the Canucks and for a change they're not broken down veterans with no future but rather players who could benefit from such and experience.

And the best part about all four is none would have to clear waivers in either direction they traveled, as Evan Oberg, Kevin Connauton, Lee Sweatt and Chris Tanev can all go up and down with impunity as often as Alain Vigneault used to change lines.

Connauton and or Tanev may indeed have to play a few games up here if this blight of injuries continues unabated but rest assured the moment there are enough veteran bodies healthy those guys will be right back down unless they are absolutely, absolutely fabulous which is highly unlikely.

Well it would be sweet if he were to get a call up vs The Devils. Could Tanev be the First Tiger int he NHL?

The big questions are these....Where are you going to sit during this game? Are you going to show alot of Orange and Black and be noticable amongst the sea of red around you? How is it this week being in a splittsville house of RIT and Cornell? How will Saturday night or Sunday be in your house after RIT beats the Big Red? ;)

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Roponnen is a career back-up. He's good but not a game changer. Watson and Madalora are the future. Which one will be #1 is up for grabs but remember both are young and have about 10 career starts combined. This is the first year I remember (for a while) that the tigers don't have an older proven goalie. Wilson and staff always seem to have a younger one waiting in the wings so they are ready by jr/sr year. Roponnen isn't that guy. Remember that they lost the two best D in the conference, that changes things too. Someone will step, we might just have to wait until xmas until they get a handful of starts to figure it out.

I will be in Section M, row 3, seats 3&4 as those are where my season tickets are. Right behind the visitors bench. I will be wearing my RIT hat and my Frozen Four T-shirt.

As much as I love to see RIT in my own backyard, it always makes for a tough night at home. Add in the fact the Cornell was the team I grew up rooting for, so it's tough to cheer against them even if it is RIT.

If RIT wins it will be a cold night at home, but worth it! :) (I think?;))

Who is traveling to Ithaca this weekend and is RIT busing students?

As I mentioned above, I will be there!

In the Studio96 podcast, Coach Wilson said he'd like to get the goalie situation narrowed down to 2 or even 1 go-to guy. That strongly implies that there is no clear #3 goalie as of yet, and that all three will get more chances to prove themselves.

1) What a fantastic game-winning goal from Mitchell.

2) Shane had a very solid game tonight; great to see.

Mitchell's mother was sitting behind me tonight. I don't need to tell you how excited she was. A great goal to cap a great game.

Good win. Glad to see the young players step up with individual efforts to get the job done.

Madolora doesn't instill confidence in me yet. He played well and faced a lot of shots, but I'm not sold. Going to need more time to judge this.
