Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Tell me if you've heard this one before:

- black kid breaking some rule of conduct
- white officer gives a lawful (and reasonable) instruction
- black kid gets in the face of the cop
- the name of the city starts with "F" and is in the Midwest

And the winner is:

"rule of conduct"?

He was wearing saggy pants. For that the officer had to block his path, then grab his arm and forcibly walk him down the hall? Sure, that seems perfectly reasonable.

When is it reasonable in your world for high school students to do what they're told?

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

We had dress code rules I didn't care for. I was told to turn a South Park shirt inside out and I simply never wore it again. No fuss. No muss.

Did the incident become national news? Was your mama interviewed expressing her dismay at how her angel was treated?

Did Priceless make a snarky post on USCHO in your defense?

:D

No, because dx is white.

When they're dealing with sane people.

So in your world it is reasonable for Barney Fife to put his hands on the kid for wearing saggy pants?

Did the police officer who told you not to wear the shirt manhandle you?

No, because dx is white.

You're adorable.

You're adorable.

You were the one providing the news on Ferguson, weren't you? Very similar distortion of the facts shown in your post here as were displayed in the whole Ferguson issue. No one manhandled the kid over his pants. He was grabbed AFTER he a) refused to go to the principal's office as directed and b) got in the officer's face.

You're adorable too, and predictable.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Fargo South HS has a dress code that they were violating.
One student complied with the request to pull the pants up.
The other student did not and went chest to chest with the officer <-- key phrase: student initiated first physical contact.

(FPD Acting Chief) Todd said Gray then went chest-to-chest with Libner, got in his face and said, “(Expletive) you. What the (expletive) are you going to do about it?”

This part of the encounter, which wasn’t filmed, made Libner feel threatened, the chief said.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned what a pillar of the community mommy is ...

Gray’s mother, Tasha Navy, told WDAY that she’s upset over how her son was treated. “I just feel like they were using a lot of force with my son,” she said. “He’s a kid and sometimes kids don’t listen.”

Todd noted that Navy, who’s facing felony drug charges in Cass County, has an outstanding warrant for her arrest and has not filed a formal complaint with the police department.

Gee, Tasha Navy doesn't want to go down to FPD to file a complaint ... :D ... (Fargo is the county seat of Cass County, ND)

Finally, Heaven help FPD Acting Chief Todd ... the PC Patrol will be all over him.

Todd said he believes Libner’s actions were appropriate. “If we see thug-like behavior starting to happen, we’re going to meet that behavior head on, and we’re going to address it,” he told WDAY.

Asked what he meant by “thug-like behavior,” Todd told The Forum, “I’m not talking about anything that’s racial. I’m not talking about pants. I’m talking about behavior where you’re trying to intimidate people or bully people, whether it’s fellow students, whether it’s staff, whether it’s challenging or trying to intimidate a police officer.”

Oh no. Ooooh no. The PC Patrol knows "thug-like behavior" is code for "breathing while black".

To quote Charles Barkley:

In a radio interview with Philadelphia’s 97.5 The Fanatic after a grand jury declined to indict a police officer for the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, Charles Barkley didn’t mince words. “There is no excuse,” he said, “for people to be out there burning down people’s businesses, burning down police cars.”

He went on. “We have to be really careful with the cops, because if it wasn’t for the cops we would be living in the wild, wild west in our neighborhoods,” said Barkley. “We can’t pick out certain incidentals that don’t go our way and act like the cops are all bad. Do you know how bad some of these neighborhoods would be if it wasn’t for the cops?”

The kicker was this: “Them jackasses who are looting . . . those aren’t real black people, those are scumbags. The real black people, they’re not out there looting.”

The student initiating first physical contact isn't corroborated by the video in the link you originally posted, though. What I see is the student trying to walk away and the police officer getting in his face and then grabbing him. And the idea that an armed police officer should feel threatened by a high school kid, given the obvious power imbalance between the two, is absurd. This is a cop harassing a kid for a victimless "crime".

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Supposedly they video didn't get the part where he threatened the cop (because that part probably didn't happen).

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Yeah, um... how bout the kid just go to the principal's office when told to do so?

Just like Brown, do what you're told by an authority figure, and none of the rest of this happens.

And what about the other kid shadowing the confrontation? His body language was threatening whether the apologists here want to admit it or not.

Had the look of someone deciding whether to pounce or not.

Luckily, he didn't.

Of course, I'm sure there's an explanation...

He figuratively meant, "Burn down the system that would allow for this miscarriage of justice to occur."

Right?
