Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Eric Garner resisted arrest, and died of a heart attack because he was in horrible health. That's from the coroner's report. He wasn't choked. The officers did their jobs, which was to arrest people selling loose cigarettes, which is a crime in New York.

SHOULD it be a crime in NY? I personally don't think so, but that's a debate for politicians, not cops. The police are in an impossible situation if you expect them to uphold ALL laws, except if it could potentially lead to injury or death that they don't directly cause.

You'd have a better chance getting a bowl of Jello to comprehend what you're saying.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

The coroner ruled it a homicide and you say I have comprehension issues lmao.

It didn't fail in all three and in how many didn't it fail? Again not systemic.

Repeating ad infimitum "it's not systemic" isn't really a valid argument when everyone from the cops to the DA to the grand juries failed, hence why I and others feel the system failed.

Brent is still mad that Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus. WHAT SHE DID WAS ILLEGAL!
Rosa Parks broke a law that was discriminatory at best, unconstitutional at worst. You can't say that about selling loose cigs even if you disagree.

I don't have any issue with it being a crime, but it shouldn't be an arrestable offense, IMHO.

Homicide means that the death was caused by another human, not that a crime necessarily took place.

...which isn't a defense in either criminal or civil tort law.

If I were to punch you in a way that would only bruise a normal person but causes you to die because you're a hemophiliac, I would still be charged with murder. You take your victims as you find them.

Stop blaming the victim.

By victim, you mean criminal. No matter the result (good or bad), he was a criminal.

That was mostly in reply to constant *****ing about protests.

agreed

Homicide means that the death was caused by another human, not that a crime necessarily took place.
I know I pointed that out to someone as well but there are some pointing out that he wasn't choked and (I think) implying that the officers weren't responsible for his death.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

I didn't realize laws only protected people without records. I hope you don't have any traffic tickets.

Past records have nothing to do with it. In the NY and StL cases, they were breaking the law. Therefore, that makes them criminals.

Says the poster naming three cases out of...
Look at the indictment rate of police versus average citizens. Those three were merely examples.

Also systemic doesn't mean the system is broken in every single county or what have you it means the system failed in these specific cases.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

What conclusions weren't people allowed to draw in the former?

It was wrong to say he was influenced by right-wing propaganda. For example, a sign at a protest that read "We came unarmed -- this time" had nothing to do with it. It was just a coincidence that the Congresswoman he shot was a Democrat. It was a case of mental instability, not a case of him trying to enforce his own 2nd-Amendment remedy.

So I'm wondering if these same people see any connection between the protesters and this horrible crime committed by a guy who also had mental issues.

Were they tried and convicted? No? Then they are not criminals.

But even if they would have been, they are still victims. Their crimes did not warrant a death sentence (for sure in Garner's case, who knows in Brown's since there isn't any video).

taking race out of the picture, I don't see how you're okay with the double standard when it comes to grand juries and their treatment of cops vs. anyone else.

I'm guessing the average speeder doesn't go through a jury trial. Does that make them a non-criminal? How about jaywalking? Or littering?

Next.
