Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 99: You can get anything you want, at Fooper's Restaurant.

Like I said, I love the music, but most of the culture is just over the line for me. I just want to go and enjoy the atmosphere and music, not have some high schooler trying to get me high so he can spin a bunch of lights in my face. Now get off my lawn, you whippersnappers :p

That's why I liked First Ave (Minneapolis) back in the day. The music was great, stuff you didn't hear anywhere else, 21+, and everyone just minded their own. You could dance however you wanted to (one night saw one guy just walking/striding/whatever around the perimeter of the dance floor to the beat, no one even thought twice). You could drink until 1am (later on, 2am) and it was open until 4am.

Who would buy a yacht and hire yours truly to Captain it? Clearly one of you would like to cruise the Caribbean.

How about a big-arse monstrosity of a pontoon (like, big houseboat size, except bigger), and just cruise around in Lake Superior?:D

Only if we can be scurvy pirates how drink run all day and do a lot of wenching and pillaging. ;) :D

I'm game for the ore boat. We'll put a bid in for the 2020 FF. If they accepted Ford Field... ;)

Just make sure its like 75 or 78 foot beam, so we can go out the St. Lawrence (with a pitstop in HPland) and down south for the winters.

when i lived on virgin gorda back in 1992 i met a lot of people who captained boats around the islands for people. half the time it was just the crew keeping the boat on the water while the owner was back in the states or in europe.

How skinny of a boat would we need if we wanted to go thru the Chicago Locks??

Yep, I don't want to say its a pretty common job, but there are definitely people who take them. The benefits of a gig like that are endless.

How the * are you a Minnesotan - one that LIVED in Duluth - and not know what an ore boat is?

To me, the Edmund was just a big arse boat that sank. I didn't pay attention to the classification or whatever it was. It was a big boat. That's it. :o

You should be pelted with used hockey pucks to the tune of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald for not knowing that!!

yeah. lotta charter companies too. peeps would show up and take out day sailors for a couple weeks, then disappear.

i'd walk to the shower and pass the charter owner and ask if 'bob' was around. chet would just shake his head, dude stopped to say he was moving down the islands and that was it.

I know the story, moran. And love the song. Didn't know the "classification" of the boat, because I really didn't care. It was a big arse boat. Tell me that it isn't a big arse boat. I dare you. Because you'd be wrong. :p

The Song includes the phrase, a Load of Iron Ore. How could you not know it was the biggest Oreboat on the Lakes??

Shame it can't be a full 90 foot beam (to allow for the 85 foot ice), but being able to go down to the Caribbean in the winter would be worth having narrow ice. Maybe we could have a wider surface on deck, sort of like an aircraft carrier?

Having not known the backstory there, consider me

Me too. :p

You'd probably have depth issues too. huh huh heh huh heh heh

Unfortunately not. Going through the locks means your main deck goes below the lock walls too, so it would get sheared off....

I guess we could always apply for the Futile Four?:D If that didn't get automatic acceptance, I don't know what would.
