Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 94: Holidays, tournaments, presents and snow!
Well, if you didn't gather it from my psychotic ranting on Twitter, my trip home did not go very well.
Flight out of Denver was delayed by 20-ish minutes for no good reason. My flight which was supposed to touch down at 5:16 actually touched down at 5:33. Ten minutes of taxiing and ten more minutes of deplaning later, I made it to the board at ORD and saw my 6:00 MBS flight was still on time, and of course it was four terminals over. I got to the gate and voila, it was closed. FAIL. I estimate I must have missed this thing by about two minutes. Maybe if I pulled an OJ Simpson Hertz commercial I might have made it, but I doubt it. Went to customer service, and the next flight to MBS left at 1 PM Christmas Day, and the next one after THAT didn't leave until 8:05.
Fortunately, I met another couple behind me who had missed the same connection, and we decided we're renting a car and driving this *****. Small problem: NO ONE IN THE ENTIRE FARKING CITY OF CHICAGO had a rental car available. NOBODY. There wasn't even a bus to Detroit available. We went back in and chewed out United until they comped us a hotel room, then went out together looking for booze on the CTA on Christmas Eve in a farking monsoon. I was walking through puddles an inch deep.
Got to the airport the next morning, had a meal at the Fox Sports restaurant where my newfound friend had a cockroach in her salad, and fortunately caught the 1:00 to Saginaw. Total time from door in Cheyenne to touchdown in Saginaw: 28 hours.
I thought Planes, Trains and Automobiles was a comedy, not a documentary
