On West Broadway in North Minneapolis, you can play "Count the hookers/dealers" in broad daylight. :p

And don't be white and drive in that area at night. One night, driving that way, my engine light came on. Ran a red on purpose. Got pulled over. Cop saw my carful of white guys, and gave me his card, and said, "Just keep going. Don't stop."

hmmm. i think of MN, i think of jesse the body and kevin mchale. kent hrbek. bud grant.

Don't get me wrong, it's no Detroit or East St Louis or South Side Chi-town, but there are small concentrated areas where one just doesn't want to be. Hell, NEW YORK called us "Murderapolis" only a couple years ago. NEW. YORK. Think about that.

rudy cleaned that chit up....

i moved there the first time in sept 90 the weekend some dudes killed a kid from idaho on the subway tracks after they lit up his family (they were there on vacation for labor day). the guys were, "going to work" when they left their place in queens to head into the city to get some money. tough times. jimmy breslin had a big column along the lines of "sure, one lady got killed, but the same day 136 babies were born, blah blah concerts, blah blah this and that. ...." nice first impression upon me.

then again a couple years later i was on my way to virgin gorda to work for a while and had a stop over in nyc before my flight the next morning. i was walking around the park right off cps and turned a corner to walk around that pond they used in home alone 2. when i came around a tree there was a dude lounging on a bench. when he saw me he perked up and was ready to get up and mug me. but first he looked to his left and saw two other people appear. (dam!!!!! witnesses). i smiled and turned around. (whew!) good times.

To paraphrase Jean Shepperd, Samuel L. Jackson works in profanity the way some artists work in oils or clay. :D

The other night at work, we were selling something called the GoBible, which is basically an iPod that recites Bible verses. We all thought it'd be awesome if Sam Jackson was the one reading it.

There are snakes on this mutha freakin ark!!!

Just getting started? He's halfway through the race right now!

I woke up at 2pm yesterday.
I woke up at 5 AM and kept right on going til close to midnight.

Well, Lodgers, she did it: my wife is now a graduate of Texas Tech University!

I took her away from her studies fifteen years ago, and she never finished her Bachelor's degree. Now that we've been in Lubbock for a few years, she went back as a full time student in August 2007 (with two kids!) and just walked down the aisle today.

A banner day.
Congrats, Mrs. WTW!

My debris fire is still going.

Making pizza(my dough is proofing as I write this) and drinking a lovely Sam Adams cranberry lambic
Oooh, what kind of pizza?

Hi, Lodge. Vampires or vultures... I couldn't decide what the customers at work were today.

That might explain all the sketchy people I see when I go shopping at the Cub on 26th and Lake St. It's either there or Midtown, I can't win.

there's a Rainbow a few blocks away that I wouldn't drive to in an armored car.

my dad was driving around south side of Chicago (he knows the area well) and a cop pulled him over. Asked him if he was from town (he grew up there). The cop said that the neighborhood had changed quite a bit and that he would escort him out of there.

That also happened to Schmacon's dad.

Lake St wasn't a good area when my dad worked at the Sears building/tower way back in the day (25 years ago or so? Dukes of Hazzard was still on primetime then). :o

The Cub I'm talking about (and went to tonight) is practically across the street. I think it's the only Cub I've been to where the aisle signs are in English and Spanish, and the only one with a whole aisle dedicated to Hispanic foods (tortillas, beans, etc.) in addition to the international foods aisle. At least the neighborhoods to the north that I drive through to get there don't seem too bad.

So far nothing I've seen in Minneapolis has been that bad (at least compared to Detroit/Flint/Saginaw). It's just weird when you think you're going to one of the whiter states in the country, and end up surrounded by Asians at school, do your shopping in what is apparently a Mexican ghetto, and live near a housing project filled with Somalian refugees.

These stories suck, where are the babies that were thrown in the backyard in the winter to die, children stabbing other children, constant drive-by's that only ever kill innocent bystanders, dragging people behind cars until they die, etc... or maybe I've just been watching the local news too much.

My friend from Flint told me some lovely stories. Somebody he knew from school that was involved in dealing drugs got stripped naked and executed in a convenience store during a holdup. One time they had to cancel the first day of classes because they found a body just inside the woods by the back of the school. Another time a random guy got beat to death in the middle of the parking lot, while all of the parents waiting to pick up their kids and some kids inside the school watched. And he went to the rich private school in Flint.

Yeah, Flint is pretty bad, too. I seriously don't watch the local news anymore because it is absolutely disgusting how this stuff happens every day.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 93: Midseason Excellence

Minneapolis-St. Paul is the least white part of MN - there's a lot of Hmong and Somalian people living in the area. I think this area is at or near the top of the US for both groups (on a per capita basis anyway).

Well we have terrible Hmong drivers! Just ask Malik Sealy...wait...he's dead. Nevermind.

Morning Lodge!

Yesterday was my last day of 6-sigma training! Now I get to do my real work...

And THAT is why I like living in North Dakota. That, and because it's super cheap to live here, and it spoils me. Oh, and the lack of traffic too I suppose. Anything else I need to add? :p

I can't wait to officially/legally post in here. I feel like I'm doing something illegal haha
