Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

Regardless of actual snowfall, it is NOT nice out there. Here's where the dumb comes in to play: we're not opening the arena concessions today because of the weather, but the powers that be think that afternoon open skate will be busy, so I'm going in to work that instead. I shouldn't really complain--I'm still getting hours, I'm getting free skating, and I'll be driving in the daylight instead of the dark. However, I'm still not looking forward to said drive.

Are schools closed? Then it might be busy. Otherwise, yeah, dumb.

Kids on the hockey team last night were hoping school would close today. My kid told them no-way, Edina hardly ever closes for snow. Might run late, might leave early, won't shut down.

Schools are closed, but I still don't see that much of a crowd for this. Oh well, I only lost an hour as opposed to a whole shift.

Morning Lodge,
Made it to work (since I actually have to drive for this training) without a problem, luckily I avoided southbound MN Hwy 65, that looked like a disaster when I crossed it.

In other news, I am almost 100% sure that the Jeep will not start after sitting in the parking lot in these temps. It has been a struggle the last couple days and they were warmer. It was even struggling to start it in the garage, so Monday night I bought a heat lamp and a trouble light, combined them with an old comforter and foot long 2x4 and made a makeshift block heater. Unfortunately that doesn't work in the parking lot.
so my transmission is shot then?
sounds likely to me...but it is possible that you have timing belt problems and that your timing is so messed up that you can only go 40, as opposed to limp mode, but I agree with BPH that this problem is much more likely to just keep the engine from running at all.

Good morning. One of the eaglets was not happy this morning, the lass had school still while the lad's was closed. If I heard "It's not fair!" once this morning I heard it a 100 times. Immediate seating for Bitter, party of one. :D The lad's school is in Mendota Heights and pretty much all the schools in that county (Dakota, south of the river from St Paul and Minny) are closed. Meanwhile St. Paul schools remain open therefor so does the lass' school. Being the sensitive dad I am I only gave her a half-hearted Nelson like "ha-ha" when I dropped her off.

Moron alert: Beware of the knucklehead trying to go north (up a pretty good hill) on Cretin Ave. from Marshall in a 09 Mustang. Dude, there may not be a worse car in the snow than yours and add in your complete idiocy it's a dangerous combination.

I'm sure your son was super sensitive to her plight and felt bad that he wasn't going to be able to go to school. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

Yeah, I hear that. Dad just got home and said that he counted about 8 cars off in the ditch tonight, including one that went off by that railroad bridge east of Saline on 12. That had to been a scary as hell ride going down that embankment there and landing in that marsh area there.
I'm glad I made my drive to Adrian before 7:30. Had just started snowing...roads were fine.
Only saw one car still in the ditch this morning. The rain cleared the roads off pretty well.

So, today at work has been fairly entertaining. Everyone is so paranoid about lay-offs that it's become a s**tshow of people trying to do each other's jobs and thinly vailing that they think everyone else is a moron. Today is a good day to sit back and watch everyone else be stupid. If only I could have an adult beverage while I do so.

He din't have time to taunt.
Me: Patrick, turn your alarm off your school is closed
Pat: Seriously?
Me: Yep
Pat: {snore}

A teenagers ability to fall asleep instantly is nothing short of amazing.

South of the city has quite a bit of snow and north of the city (inland) has quite a bit of snow, yet it was a torrential downpour on my way to work. There is now a downside to living on the beach. :(

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

It got down to business at about 9:30 last night. The power flipped on a few times just before 10. I turned the lights off at midnight and the living room glowed from the snow outside. I thought the porch lights were still on. By the time 7:30 rolled around it was all gone and everything was wet. It was just that temperature where you were probably okay to drive, this is also nearly the exact weather where I wrecked my last truck on black ice.

Snow turned to rain, and now it's going to blow all day and freeze just after dark, and stay that way for a while. Low of 17, high of 17 tomorrow.

Sure its not one of the tendons that attaches into your shoulder from the Bicep??

I'm not sure yet, the MRI was done and they couldn't get me comfortable so not sure how good a pic they got. I even it took a painkiller right before we left for there but it didn't do diddly squat. Crown and Bong hits would do more to kill pain than those things do

I used to watch my dad come home from work and sit down and fall asleep within a couple of minutes. I thought "how in the hell does he do that?"

Now I get it. :o

Although since I'm no teenager, I can barely sleep past 7:00 AM, even on the weekends

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

I'd LOVE to be the kind of person that can get up at 6 AM every day and be fully functional. However, that would require going to bed between 10:30-11 PM, and I'm not willing to do that. On weekends 10 AM seems to be the sweet spot for getting up.

My dad could always fall asleep on the floor (still can, although my nephew seems to put an end to that when he sees it). I can't. I gotta have a couch or a happy chair.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

In a pinch you can use colored baking sugar mixed in with a bit of the milk to disolve first.

Interesting. I may have to try that... we'll see. I might postpone cookies to next week, since I have two days off in a row next week too.

Mr just took off to drive L'il to school as he was at the bus stop for the last 30 minutes and no bus. School started 15 minutes ago. The real tragedy is that they made choc chip cookies in Consumer class yest and he has that 1st period. He is not happy. All the cookies are going to be gone:mad:

Does the bus ever come to pick up your kid? Is there someone you can call about that? Ridiculous. I'd be so irate if the bus didn't come at all.

Maybe the driver is like my kid's driver. She is supposed to be at his stop at 7:17 AM and not leave before that time. He has missed the bus about 5 times this year (and he only rides the bus about 2 or 3 days a week) because they are walking up the street at 7:12 and see the bus fly by without stopping. My wife calls the transit company every time and for a week or so the driver does what she's supposed to, then it happens again.

mmm....cookies.

I think maybe I'll bake some cookies tonight. I like the candy cane cookies my mom used to make. I think they are just a shortbread cookie shaped to look like a candy cane and decorated with a white glaze with red stripes. mmmm.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

Made it to work five minutes later than usual. heading away from the storm made all the difference. Looking over at the eastbound lane of 94, some of those people won't make it to work before quitting time. All in all, the roads weren't as bad as I anticipated. Of course, having a nice big 4X4 with 240 pounds of rock salt in the box makes it a little more bearable :D

I keep forgetting to throw a tube of sand or two in my Jeep - thanks for reminding me. Now to find a place that isn't sold out...

Likewise. When I'm used to 6 AM (or earlier) wakeups, it's not a huge problem, though a shower helps immensely. Otherwise... heh, it's a struggle to get up before 10. :o :o

Morning, Lodge. Not terrible here in 763ville, but the plows still left a streak of now-compacted snow in the middle of our road. Eh, I like driving on compacted snow anyway.

I suck at baking. My grandmother used to make these awesome thin sugar cookies with even better frosting. When I attempt to make them they turn out thick like corn bread. A starving dog wouldn't even eat them. Baking is to precise for me. "winging it" is not a good baking strategy for g.

At work we have a pretty decent campaign for the United Way and one of the fundraisers is a silent auction. One of my co workers is an excellent baker and she provides numerous trays of assorted tasty baked goods for the auction. I always double the highest bid and snatch up every one of them. Tray number 1 of 5 will be available tomorrow. (for those of you keeping score at home I just drooled all over my keyboard :p )
