Winner winner chicken dinner!

(Not quite the same but close enough.)

He gets credit for being in something that floats.
The big question every year is what goes through Lake Minnetonka first, a truck or a snowmobile. :D

Speaking of dangerous downhill things...
At Tech, we get to use Ripley for free.

This tidbit caught the lad's attention big time at the college fair. If he changes his mind from meteorology to biology/chemistry (I don't know who's kid he is ;) ) MTU could be in his future.

Okay, since you two show obvious signs of desperately wanting to become avid skiers, I'll provide you one more term closely associated with the sport.

The term is: ski bum
[noun]==> slang term for someone who, because he/she would rather ski than work, takes a low-paying job at a ski resort so he/she can watch people with high-paying jobs ski while he/she is working.

Yes, I know what you're thinking. There is a delightfully twisted economic harmony in that term, isn't there? :p

One of my cousins and her hubby are bummish. They live in Dillion during the ski season wehre he's a ski patrol at A-Basin and she admits people at a local hospital. They both get to meet the Gonzo's of the world. :D

I'm going to go with a truck in this years pool. I'll even go so far as to say "A car/truck driving on channel ice"

I've lived near 'Tonka all my life, and seen dozens of cars go into that lake. 9/10 is people driving on ice with a current underneath it. That's why I NEVER ice fish rivers.

I would guess: Chicago.

Would be a PITA to have to deal with the idiots (and longer travel time) in Chicagoland if the Bridge is closed.
We have a winner...
I'm keeping an eye on the weather. I'm mainly concerned about the wind. Once we get to the UP, HN can take over driving to avoid lake effect and whatever - he knows the way.

It takes A LOT to close the bridge. Unless a massive blizzard or something hits Thursday, you'll be able to get across. Worst case, they'll have the wind warning up, and then you'll have to go 20 and they'll have bridge authority escorts for the semis.

Besides, A LOT is usually reserved for the ends of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Breaks. :o

ctf: The most dangerous part of skiing/boarding Ripley is Portage Death Systems. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

I hope the work week passes quickly. Mrs. Shot and I are planning to go to Breck and Vail this coming weekend for our first skiing of the season. Really looking forward to it and the weatherman is cooperating by forecasting big storms for the central and southwestern mountains in Colorado early in the week. The storms are needed as the bases at nearly all the ski resorts in Colorado are quite thin.

I hope everyone has a good week, even those lazy batstards [gmann] on vacation. ;)

I have never been skiing. A good friend of mine from high school is retired and lives in Mary Jane Colorado. He is the Jump out of the helicopter and see what happens type of guy.

Dillon is one place you can live during the ski season [and other times of the year] without having to pay and arm and a leg to do so. I'm not saying it's inexpensive there, but the general rule is, during ski season the closer you live to the mountain the more expensive it is to do so.

A-Basin is fun. Lots of "steeps and deeps." I've long thought of it as a better area for experts than beginners or intermediates, although those skiers certainly can enjoy the area as well. My wife and I have season passes to the areas owned by Vail Associates. Our passes allow us to ski A-Basin on an unlimited basis with no blackout days. Because our condo is in the heart of Breck 1 1/2 blocks from where we catch a shuttle to the slopes every day, we generally ski there and/or drive the pass to get our ten days at Vail/Beaver Creek which our passes afford us. The geography of our ski season is such that we don't ski A-Basin nearly as much as we ski Breck and Vail.

Our passes are blacked out for Vail/BC on several holiday weekends during the ski season. It's fine with us since we wouldn't choose to ski V/BC on those days because we know the slopes would be jammed. One of the benefits of having a season pass is that if the slopes are unexpectedly crowded my wife and I simply get in a few runs, then head back to the condo and a nice afternoon strolling downtown Breck. Since we're able to tailor our work schedules we frequently head to Breck for three day wekends during ski season and ski Mondays when the slopes are, relatively speaking, empty. We're most fortunate in that regard. :)

I've had to do that once. There's something a little scary about holding the steering wheel as if you're turning left while driving straight the whole time.

I've never had that. I've had it take me 4 hours to get from MQT to the bridge, but not that.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 92: Let's Keep SiouxTechie Out

I've missed 2 Vikings games this season at Pittsburgh and at Arizona. Hmm that's interesting. The Vikings only 2 losses. So the Vikings are 10-0 in games I was at and 0-2 in games I wasn't at.

Brett, AP, Mr. Mullet, and the rest of Vikings aren't the key to the Vikings winning clearly my presence is the key. If the Vikings want to win they just need to make sure I'm at all their games. Ziggy is going to have to make sure his private jet takes me to the road games. :p

I have never been skiing. A good friend of mine from high school is retired and lives in Mary Jane Colorado. He is the Jump out of the helicopter and see what happens type of guy.

There are several heli-skiing operations in Colorado. I've never been, but it is most certainly on my wish list of skiing activities. I have a nephew who's been heli-skiing in Utah and Alberta and he raves about the experience.

Yes, heli-skiing is quite expensive, but for avid skiers the experience is unsurpassed.

For a variety of reasons I've skied with several Vail ski instructors/guides over the years and have been advised of some of the outfits I should try if I ever decide to heli-ski. From all the first-hand stories and accounts I've heard it's a "must-do" activity for an avid skier. :)

Winter Park/Mary Jane is a terrific ski area. The backside of MJ has terrific bumps. Honset-to-goodness double black runs, not just marked as such. Great challenges back there.

Some people just have to stick their finger in the electric socket, as much as you tell them not to.

The young one just isn't patient at all is he??

And Diva, poor form for bumping the thread. If you have something to tell him, just ding him in a rep, and then bump the main Ferris Thread.

Just notice the lack of my presence in that thread, or how little I have to say if I decide that my presence is warranted.

I should be fine wearing a pair of jeans for ice skating, yes?

Depends on how likely you are to fall and rip the middle. ;)

Probably fine temp-wise though, assuming it's an indoor rink and you have a good sweatshirt. If you get cold easily, get a pair of long johns too.

Speaking of dangerous downhill things...
At Tech, we get to use Ripley for free. My cousin convinced me to learn how to snowboard. I've done it a few times. Wasn't terrible, though the t-bar kicked my åss. He told me we'll use the chair lift, and that I'll be fine. I bought some boots that were majorly on sale a couple years back, and my aunt had a really nice Burton then moved to NYC, so that's basically mine now. Good thing I've got the Blackberry so I can post from the hospital... ;)

All this snowboard talk from us. We better have some mad skills come UAA weekend haha
