Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 87: As All Hallow's Eve Approches.....

For the past year I have not paid much attention to my 401k statements. I am set up very aggressive and I am OK with peaks and valleys as I know there will be more peaks than valleys over the long term. I know at one point I was down. Way down. Year to date I am up 36%! :)

If mine had been up 36%, retirement may have been an option :(

just checked mine on mint.com. I'm up 33% with my IRA and 28% with my 401K. :)

The down market this past year crushed many people who had plans on retiring within the next 5 - 7 years or so.

I think at one point I was down nearly 40%. However, I have time to make it up and I look at the down side of the market as a great time to buy stuff "on sale". Also, I am lucky in the fact that 1) My employer does a dollar for dollar match up to 6%. 2) We also have an awesome pension plan which is rare these days and 3) Our private company stock is rock solid. There are going to be about 6 indivuduals retiring in 2010 that have on average 25+ years with the company and all their stock will be thrown in the pool once they retire.

Our 401k is now allowing us to convert our traditional 401k to Roth. When my 401k was at its worst/lowest I converted everything to Roth. Paid a chunk in taxes but now all that earns tax free when I cash out at retirement. Was a gamble at the time but now I look like a rock star.

in the process of upping to 5.0 for my storm right now.

No class until 1:30 today (and my only class on wednesdays:) ) however I was up at 0615 for rifle practice... shot relatively well, but still work to do before our first matches in 2.5 weeks.

our flight is scheduled out of Wichita at 4:30 cst. We're obviously going to be delayed because everything is going to hell in Denver and the aircraft coming in is going to be delayed. The question is, will the airplane we're supposed to take get out of Denver? If it does, we'll be fine. If not...I'm getting paid for sitting in a hotel.
The over/under on your getting to DIA is late Thursday...if then. On the positive side of things you'll have plenty of time in that hotel room to perfect your video game skills for the flight to Denver. :D

I have spent about 45 minutes on the treadmill, changed two diapers, dressed two little devils, loaded those two little devils in the van, made breakfast, stopped for a cup of joe, prepared for a meeting, conducted meeting and called a client to meet for lunch today.
Lazy bastar/d. Get a job, eh?

On a much more serious note, too bad about the Decker kid. I saw bits and pieces of the Goofers playing twice this season and he was a terrific receiver. Brewster's offense will miss him.

But FAA, Flight Simulator X taught me everything I know! I thought I could play while flying... I'm still flying a plane, right?;)

Thanks to you and everyone else. I didn't know the kid well. I probably only met him about 10 times in his life. I knew his mother, my first cousin, extremely well from childhood. Then I moved to DC and she moved to the Boston area. So I don't see her and her family often. Interestingly, the kid had moved to NYC after graduating college.

Ralph, Sorry to hear about your family's loss. When I read your post two thoughts went through my mind: 1) heart attack or 2) aortic aneurysm. At his age either seems unlikely.

He was a lock to win the Hobey. ;)

All right, who signed the legislation changing Noob Season from March to October?

Blanket nuking on all noob threads started. Everywhere. If it's intelligent it stays. If not, turn it red. So let it be written, so let it be done.

**** phone has jet fuel now. Liking the upgrade, although my Android theme is kind of screwed up in landscape now:mad:

Its because that theme was made for 4.x. The theme maker needs to update it to work with 5.0.

We're just ahead of you in so many ways!!! :p ;)
Yep, your at least an hour closer to your death than I am. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 87: As All Hallow's Eve Approches.....

I have done the dishes, done a load of laundry, made chicken stew, cleaned up the kitchen repository (it is really a table but you would never know it), cleaned the rest of the kitchen. Still have to bring Lil' to the dentist, go to the market, fold said laundry and if I am organized enough I get to play with all the dead people birth and death certificates that I have printed off ScotlandPeople from one of the branches of the family that had scandal (divorce:eek: in 1904).

I have spent about 45 minutes on the treadmill, changed two diapers, dressed two little devils, loaded those two little devils in the van, made breakfast, stopped for a cup of joe, prepared for a meeting, conducted meeting and called a client to meet for lunch today.
And I thought I was productive this morning.

Picked up a couple of applications today: one to GVSU, the other to WMU. Time to start thinking about going back to school and earning my Master's. I've already ran a marathon; might as well start on the next Bucket List goal...
