Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 86: Noobs, Halloween, and Pumpkins, oh my!

For those of you keeping score at home, Mrs. g is a teacher. This morning a group of people entered her class. The principal, school administration, school board members and executives from a "large retailer". They surprised Mrs. g with a large box of school supplies for her classroom that included a printer, digital camera and essential classroom materials worth more than $1,000 per gift. Apparently she was one of 3500 teachers from across the coutry that was nominated then recognized for her efforts.

Cripes, I hope they left her with the receipt. I will cash it in and put the money down on the Gophers humiliating ohio state this weekend. :p

That is all sorts of awesome. Annoying that those things would otherwise come from her pocketbook, but awesome that she got it. :D

Apparently my dad's in the hospital...90% blockage of his right main artery. Had an angiogram and apparently everything went fine and he will be staying overnight. Off to the hospital...:(

20 bucks says he goes straight from the hospital to work tomorrow...:p:o

Hi there kids! back from San Diego. Might I just say that the San Diego airport is woefully deficient in the breakfast foods category?

Weather was lovely, the conference was good. My brother drove down to join me, which was fun. Saturday night we drove up to Del Mar. One of the hottie bartenders from my weekly Thursday nights out moved out there and now works at this swanky resort hotel out there and we went to see him and have a few drinks. Nice place.

mookie - not that I plan to miss any more games, but I may need you to keep me updated on games. I had to text 3-4 people to get a score of the BU game from Friday night because BU2K neglected his responsibility to text me updates like he said he would. Got off the plane Friday night and put my phone on expecting a few text messages and got nuthin'.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 86: Noobs, Halloween, and Pumpkins, oh my!

So two weeks ago, going to/from Canada, I got the 3rd degree from both of the border patrol officers working at customs. Two weeks ago, it took almost 30 minutes to get back into the US because the International Bridge was backed up because of the US border patrol. They were asking lots of questions and looking in everyone's trunk. Usually I get asked where I live and other random things like that.

Tonight going TO Canada, I presented my license to the Canadian border patrol officer. He asked where I was going, swiped my license, and told me to have a good night. That was it. Going back into the US I handed the officer my license, got asked what I was doing as he swiped my license, and told me to have a good night. The whole thing took seven minutes, and that includes waiting in line for the few cars that were ahead of me.

Weird, the first paragraph sounds typical. I take it you have an enhanced driver license or something similar?

Thanks everyone. He'll be home tomorrow. He blames it on the Saturday Sioux/Gopher game. :D

He had pain in his left arm at work, tells the receptionist to let a coworker know that he can't give him a ride home*...and drives himself to the emergency room. His boss' wife (also good family friends) was absolutely furious with him that he drove himself (For reference TC people...he works around The Local and is at Abbot Northwestern). Abbot's new heart wing is really nice. My brothers and I found it funny that for being one of the top heart hospitals in the country the only food choice there after the cafeteria closes is...McDonald's.

As for work. He probably won't go back tomorrow. But, he will probably have my mom run downtown to his office to get work for him to do and work from home and be back Wednesday. He'll go crazy if he's stuck at home with nothing to do all day.

*This coworker is also a good friend of the family and he lives fairly close to us. He called my mom on her phone and got the news that all was well. Then calls our home phone and says "Tell your dad thanks for the ride...I have to walk home now." Then let my brother know he knew he was ok.:D

I've only dealt with NYC. Thanksgiving is worse than Xmas since the Xmas season travel is more spread out. The important question is when exactly you want to go.

If you have the time, the train is more relaxing but seems to me to be more subject to delays.

Hokydad's spirited defense of the Black Knight's program was rivetting... and it would be more so if it wasn't on the PC thread.

My God...

Good evening Lodge!

Well if PC's coach wasn't named Tim Army, there wouldn't be a place for that.

BLAME ARMY!

Congrats, Bob! No one warned you about "the wall" at mile 20? Apparently, what you experienced is pretty common in the marathon. What, besides resting and recovering, is the plan now?.
Yeah, no one really told me about the wall; I guess it's something you have to experience for yourself. :o

Hi tLodge. long time no post. hope all is well.

Sounds about right. Also, the train ought to cost less, especially if you aren't riding Acela, but will take longer.
