Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Septem=7 / September=9th month
Octo=8 / October=10th month
Decem=10 / December=12th month

Hasn't this ever bothered you?

It is a relic of when March 1 was the start of the year.

It only bothered me to the extent that some old German records use 7ber to mean September, 8ber to mean Oktober, 9ber to mean November, and Xber to mean Dezember. I found it confusing at first.

No.

I did know it at one time but I forgot and was too lazy to look it up. Besides I was enjoying imitating my teenager. "I dunno" being the staple answer to everything.
Okay, okay - since you're twisting my arm...

The Roman year began on 1 March instead of 1 January, so September was their 7th month, October their 8th, November their 9th (Latin "Novem" = 9), & December their 10th.

The months of Quintilis (5th) and Sextilis (6th) were renamed July & August, in honor of Julius Caesar & Augustus Caesar.

And now there are only 8 days until I go to Alaska to see some Michigan hockey.

...and now we use the Gregorian calendar instead of the Julian (Roman calendar) so we should have changed our month names too! :D

Well, there will soon be 12 teams in the WCHA, you could name one month "Gopher", another "Badger", etc. ;)

Edit: That won't work. You have too many huskies. :D

2 Huskies and 2 Mavericks would screw that idea up. Although renaming April to "Gopher" would be perfect! :D

Then there's the UND month where we'll never know what it's supposed to be called and they all complain that it's not the first month. Then all the UND fans complain that whatever month is Gopher month is too high. :D

I really don't like waking up at 3 AM and worrying about my projects and how I'm going to get them all done in time. :(

I did not know that. Interesting.

So, this morning I was awoken at 5:12am by some loud crash. Went to the window, couldn't see what it might have been. Construction vehicles? Those big metal plates covering up holes and big trucks with untied cargo making noise? Couldn't see over the trees in front of my building. And the noise was random. And it was driving me nuts. So I put on my sweats and a sweatshirt over my PJs and went outside to see what was making the noise. There was some large metal plate in the middle of the road that was not really flat, so any time someone drove over it, it would reverberate. There also seemed to be something sticking out of it that could have caused some serious tire damage. As it was 5:30am, there was a lull in the traffic so I walked out on the middle of this busy state road and dragged it over to the sidewalk.

You get the USCHO Good Citizen Award for the day! The Founders had it right: self-interest and good citizenship really do coincide.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

we used player tickets when we went up two years ago.... the ticket office didn't use them all for the parents and there were only about 20 of us total. those were the ones they "sold" to us.

we picked them up at the arena.
We did that for the Fairbanks games last year. It was cool to get to will call and see our tickets under Red Berensen's name. He gets good seats. Right next to the bench, I could smell the hockey.

Me too! Which also means only 8 days until the bf's races in CT. Good thing I already had this Alaska trip booked before I met him.

This is why the Sue should change their name to Pioneers or something else. I think the WCHA should try to get teams that share names. Maybe RIT and Ferris could join the WCHA? Get some more Tigers and Bulldogs.

Morning Lodge.

You get a gold star today! :)

Good morning, Lodge! Lack of sleep is driving me crazy...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

This sounds promising.

on further perusal this is to drive me mad! Anyone spot anyone we know??
I'm so tired that I read this "dementia sex" and kept right on going...
*sigh*
On the other hand, when my brain finally caught up, I had a good chuckle.

it starts at 8pm, I might end up being there until midnight. oh well.

and....one of my favorite movies is just getting over on FX, A Few Good Men. "You can't handle the truth!!!!!" Awesome.
One of my favorites as well :)

Yikes! It was 46 when I hopped on my bike this morning! I had to wear gloves to hold the handlebars! :eek:

Morning, kids! Was at the office until 7pm last night. I was ready to go at 6:45 (yes, my work day does theoretically end at 5pm), but my boss called me in to tell me that the rumors of her departure are true and next Friday is her last day. Also, she said my life will be getting worse with her departure (which while she creates tons of work and is very busy, is probably true) since she's leaving a bulk of her cases at this firm.
(for those keeping count, that is now 2 associates and 1 partner gone from a firm that started in June)

Haha. There's a fun visual.

Old man: where's this thing go again? let's try here.
Old woman: NOOO. That's not it!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll look into this, too.

Good morning, Lodge.

Trivia time: Why is our tenth month called October?

Septem=7 / September=9th month
Octo=8 / October=10th month
Decem=10 / December=12th month

Hey Calendar Boy, That's enough of the fascinating lecture on the history of the naming of months. Get your gear packed and report on the double to the academy and your department's commanding officer: Major Tatas. I hear she's anxious to meet you. :eek:
