I (and my colleagues) were starting to really sweat the lack of projects and were wondering how long we could hang on like this. Well, it appears a new project may be in the works for a few of us. The good news is, it involves installing a software system in one of our box plants, which is where I came from before joining corporate IS. The bad news is it's the plant in Mexicali, MX.

I haven't been there yet. But Corporate HR insists that when visiting or doing business there, you cross the border every day and night, staying near San Diego. The most senior ranking employee is the only one who can rent a car on the companies dime, and we have to stagger our hours and travel routes due to rampant kidnapping of US citizens doing business in Mexicali. Sounds like fun
But it is work :o

I'd start thinking about unemployment benefits about then.

How's your Spanish?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

How's your Spanish?

There were two classes in High School that I thought I'd never need. Typing and Spanish. :o
I took French, which was OK the one time I visited Paris for two days.

All of a sudden, I feel lucky to be doing boring database work in beautiful Southfield, MI. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Do you know how long I've been waiting to finally appropriately wear my sombrero?
Might be a good time to get some cheap tar heroin as well :)

You might even hear a guy or two or three try to sell you a lady for an hour or so with a line that goes something like "smells like tuna tastes like chicken".

As long as the guy doesn't use the words "donkey show" ;)

The months of Quintilis (5th) and Sextilis (6th) were renamed July & August, in honor of Julius Caesar & Augustus Caesar.

Screw Augustus - let's rename that month Sextober.

I figured out the best way to diet -- look at this is why you're fat.com prior to eating. Suddenly, all food seems totally unappetizing.

That panini thing looked pretty good, actually, as did the Texas Benedict and the bacon nachos.

Afternoon, Lodge. Miserable rainy day in the 612, which made getting to work late even worse. :o And now, I'm sitting around doing nothing in the library, wishing I was with the lady and a couple of mugs of hot cider or cocoa.

How long would you be in San Diego/Mexicali?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

How long would you be in San Diego/Mexicali?

Probably a total of 6-8 weeks. It would be broken up in one and two week segments. We have several Spanish speaking people in our department and a lot of the people at the Mexicali plant speak English, including the GM and the HR Director. My specialty is Sales Order Management, Pricing and Transportation, and few of those people speak English. The nice part about this plant is it's a pretty small operation compared to the other four we have in the states. In addition, when they've come to MN for annual meetings, they are super nice and beg us to give them a good computer system, so the team there is positive and receptive to the effort.
The other kind of cool thing is San Diego is the last major city on the left coast that I've never been to. LA to Anchorage, I've been to all of them.

Its all so hideous, and yet.... I just can't look away!!!

Evening Lodge. Had a pretty fun day in class today, going over the importance of the proper drapping of sheets and how to tuck things properly as to not cause emberrassment. There was also a pretty detailed converstation about how not to tuck sheets right into the junk of guys, as that wouldn't feel good. And there was also a bad case of the giggles as we talked about how some of our terms can sound pretty dirty when used around regular people. Made me think of you guys. ;)
