Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Is Southie a place?

It's "South Boston" (not South of Boston). It's a traditionally Irish neighborhood, which was the source of political uprising over the "busing" and integrating of schools in the 60s and 70s. When you think of the "Boston accent", people from Southie are stereotyped to talk that way. Home (or former home, depending on who you ask) to famed Boston criminal "Whitey" Bulger.

Your *in' family's dug into the Southie projects like ticks. Three-decker men at best. You, however, grew up on the North Shore, huh? Well, la-di-*in'-da. You were kind of a double kid, I bet, right? Huh? One kid with your old man, one kid with your mother. You're upper-middle class during the weeks, then you're droppin' your "R"s and you're hangin' in the big, bad Southie projects with your daddy, the *in' donkey on the weekends. I got that right? Yup. You have different accents? You did, didn't you? You little *in' snake. You were like different people.

Yes. That takes place in Southie.

Sorry that I was spot on. Prediction for next scenario.=- they will talk among themselves and talk themselves into an acceptable alternate story that makes them all comfortable. You are now non-exsistant and they will try to seperate mrs. g from you by inviting her to things without you. They will then approach mrs. g and present this story to her- probably in multiple offhand ways, seperately. They will never address as a family. They will never address it with you. They will lose no opportunity to pound home to mrs. g why you do not get it and don't fit into the family. If mrs. g stands firm, eventually they will just pretend nothing happened.

Best description of a dysfunctional relationship I ever heard was the elastic band theory. Imagine a group of people surrounded by a big elastic band. As one person attempts to get more healthy they pull against the elastic which squishes the others tighter together. The other people will pull harder and harder to try and get the person back to 'normal' and their behavior will become more out of line and exagerated as the person draws away and the elastic band will gets tighter. Eventually the band breaks and the groups then relax although they are never the same.

Thanks again. I just got off the phone with FIL. He is gong to meet me for lunch. He wants to discuss solutions to get MIL and BIL in line.

Sorry to hear about the continued issues, gmann. :(

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Sven and Ole go out drinking one night, on their way home Sven crashes the snowmobile and they both die and go to hell.

On Sven and Ole's first day in hell, the devil is making his rounds, making sure everyone is miserable, when he comes to Sven and Ole's room and hears music playing and smells a BBQ. The devil asks Sven and Ole what they are doing, and they say that it is a nice, warm day so they thought they would relax, grill up some burgers and enjoy the day. The devil was furioius, and went straight to the thermostat and turned it up.

The next day, when he got to Sven and Ole's room they were drinking some ice cold Grain Belt and playing lawn darts. Today they decided to take their shirts off, since it was a pretty hot day. The devil turned up the thermostat as high as it would go.

The next day, the devil went straight to Sven and Ole's room, they weren't there. He was looking all over for them, when he heard the sound of a boat out on the boiling lake in the middle of hell. He went straight to the lake, only to find Sven and Ole waterskiing and having a helluva good time! This was the last straw, the devil was going to show Sven and Ole that he meant business, so he turned the thermostat down to -30 degrees.

The next day the devil was walking around, pleased that everyone was freezing and miserable. When he got to Sven and Ole's room he was stunned to hear what sounded like a huge party and celebrating. He breaks through the door and asks Sven and Ole what is going on and Sven replies "Well ya know, if hell just froze over dat means da Vikings just won da Super Bowl!!"

I am not sure why I am posting this stuff on here but oh well, what the hell.

FIL is a very emotional guy. Earlier I posted I was very surprised by his reaction last night. More or less he stated to me (on our call this morning) that he had to leave due to the fact that he was so disappointed, frustrated and furious with his son and wife after he heard what I had to say. Furthermore, he is "sick" in regards to how he has treated his daughter (Mrs. g). He mentioned that it took some balls for me to do what I did and he thanked me for bringing this to his attention and he respects me more today than he ever has. He thought it was better for him to walk away rather than let his emotions get the best of him.

FWIW MIL, FIL and BIL are all going to Yellowstone via car next week for 10 days. Should be a very entertaining trip. ;)

ROME (Reuters) - Two Swedes expecting the golden beaches of the Italian island of Capri got a shock when tourist officials told them they were 650 km (400 miles) off course in the northern town of Carpi, after mistyping the name in their GPS.

"It's hard to understand how they managed it. I mean, Capri is an island," said Giovanni Medici, a spokesman for Carpi regional government, told Reuters Tuesday. "It's the first time something like this has happened."

The middle-aged couple, who were not identified, only discovered their error when they asked staff in the local tourist office Saturday how to drive to the island's famous "Blue Grotto."

"They were surprised, but not angry," Medici said. "They got back in the car and started driving south."

The picturesque island of Capri, famed as a romantic holiday destination, lies in the Gulf of Naples in southern Italy and has been a resort since Roman times.

Carpi is a busy industrial town in the province of Emilia Romagna, at the other end of Italy.

Ole and his brother Sven grabbed their poles...
QUOTE]

Say, don't you and the monkeys grab your poles during lunch break every day? :D

Sorry to hear all h/e/l/l is breaking loose in the gmann family where the in-laws are concerned. Over in the EXTRAS thread Huskyfan's family is in the process of having a meltdown of sorts. Since misery loves company maybe her problems are a sympathetic reaction to your family's problems. Just a theory. ;)

I'm hoping that both of you get your fiascos remedied in short order and then collaborate on a movie script about the two scenarios which will turn into the feel-good-hit-of-the-season. All LODGEONIANS love happy endings. :) Hang in there gmann.

On the "good news" front, the Vikings don't have Brett Favre to kick around anymore. Long live Tavaris Jackson!! :D

Thanks. I wish I had more experience in dealing with issues of this nature. I am a fish out of water. I should buy les a plane ticket to come out here and be my advisor. :)

Capri is gorgeous. When I went it was March, but it must be outstanding in the summer months.

Never been to Carpi, but I'm sure it's nice too. :p

Entertaining for who? You should bug the car. My bet is the F-in-law is in a world o' pain. This pattern didn't start yesterday.

Are you nuts?!! You don't want ay more experience with this stuff than absolutely necessary.

INteresting book on family dynamics "Toxic Parents" by Susan Forward. For anyone who can't understand why dysfunction perpetuates it is a fascinating read.

Highly recommended. I bought it for my wife and forced her to read it. It it the single best book she's ever read on the topic and really helped her see some of the larger issues in her family. It's part of the reason we went 4 years without speaking to her parents.
