Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Good morning all. Just got done with one meeting. On the way to two more. Oy. Need to finish inputting my time before end of day as I'm leaving at 5 on the dot. It's Thursday, so, you know....Lemon Drop night! Though I'm limiting myself to one as I need to go to the airport to pick up my brother. No need to drive by all the state police at teh ariport after having downed more a few martinins. :)

Well... dayum. Though one could say, the largest sandwich isn't the most perfect - I was thinking of something more like a Monte Cristo.

Sure you haven't already? ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

That bottom Dagwood looks a lot better than the turkey sandwich I made for lunch today.

Or, I could drive all the way to Minneapolis and try the meterwurst with cabbage and croquettes I saw on Man vs. Food last night. Might take me a few days to get through it, but I need to eat something...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Doing well. Still looking for the perfect sandwich, though...

And good morning, Lodge. :)

The best sandwich in the world, brought to you by Thomas Keller

Spanglish's Sandwich
From Thomas Keller

4 thick slices of bacon
2 slices of Monterrey Jack cheese
2 thick slices of rustic white bread, toasted and hot
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
4 tomato slices
2 leaves of butter lettuce
1 teaspoon unsalted butter
1 large egg

1. In a skillet, cook the bacon over moderate heat, turning, until crisp, about 8 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain.
2. Set the Monterrey Jack slices on 1 piece of toast. Spread the mayonnaise on the other slice of toast, then top with the bacon, tomato and lettuce.
3. In a small, nonstick skillet, melt the butter. Add the egg and fry over moderate heat, turning once, until crisp around the edge, about 4 minutes; the yolk should still be runny.
4. Slide the egg onto the lettuce; close the sandwich and eat right away.

Makes 1 sandwich.

If you are a young professional and plan on giving presentations, especially to clients, practice speaking. You appear immature if you "umm". I'm going to strangle this girl if she doesn't stop.

Despite evidence to the contrary -- I'm having an awesome day.
Feel rejuvinated by the walk last night and am moving the first boxes into the new place tomorrow (and putting up the paint chips to see how they look).

:p
:(

Nathan -- the sandwich sounds like it's to die for. Since "amazing boyfriend" just purchased my first skillet for me, this sounds like the perfect way to repay him. (okay, okay -- second perfect way :p )

Also, "like" bothers me (in addition to "umm"s).

uhhh, ahhhh, ummmm, and seconded on the like. I was able to take some public speaking 'classes' as part of one of my high school classes, since we had to make presentations based on case studies we did to professional companies, and we practiced our presentations for days, upon days until we got it right. Our teachers even tried distracting the hell out of us to get us to freeze up, they all turned out really well as a result of it.

Waiting in Monroe for CBP to show up since we're stopping in Windsor, ON to fuel on our way back north, they "conveniently" can only come down to Monroe between AT BEST the hours of 9:30 and 4pm, however they'll be here between now and 11:30 at some point. Ladies and Gentlemen, you're government at work, but that's for another thread.

We had a required speech class 2 days a week (we ran on a 6 day schedule) both freshman and junior year of high school. We had to give presentations on a variety of things (everything from a "how to" to making up a product and doing all the promo work (pitch idea with powerpoint presentation, make prototype, create audio and visual ads, marketing slogan and poster).

One of the requirements for graduation was the Senior Speech. We had to choose a topic and deliver a speech to the Middle School and Upper School students, the faculty and assorted guests/alumni who were invited. The day we delivered our Senior Speech was more terrifying than any final exam...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Good morning Lodge.

Went to the Dr. yesterday and picked up little g's hearing aid. He hates it! I am sure that over time he will get accustomed to it.

I am going to whine for a bit as it was sort of a frustrating day for me yesterday. Hearing aids, pt, ot, speech therapy, swim therapy, picked up a handicapped permit for parking, sorted through mountains of paperwork for insurance and then researched online for a pediatric commode because little g is going to have a hell of a time learing how to use the toilet. Meanwhile, Little g's peers are playing baseball, going to swimming lessons and such. To top it off we had some friends over for dinner last night. A couple of the kids (ages four and five) were teasing little g because he "walks funny" when using his walker. These kids were not trying to be mean they were just stating the obvious as that is what kids do. Raising a child with special needs can be stressful for various reasons and at times it can be a hard pill to swallow. End of whining.

Direct her here.

I was a member through my last job. I even won three levels of a speech contest! It was my stalking Kevin Costner story. And people young and old say "umm" and "ahhh." People you would think would be more put together can still fall into that habit.

gmann - you have every right to whine. And it's not really a whine. You're going through something that is complex, plus it's your child. I will say I love reading about his little victories and you must be so proud to know that he's come further than the doctors thought he would. Keep that top of mind. And if we can help smack any kids into line, you have several Lodge folks willing to help out on that end. :)

I know it can be a challenge but the rewards are that much sweeter because of it. Remember how much fun he had when you went to see Thomas? :) I've learned that perspective is very important to how we react to things. Focus on the good times and it will make the tough times easier.

I understand what you mean about kids saying the truth too. When my mother turned 50 she was at a friend's house and her son said, "50? That's old!" Then he looked at her and shook his head..."You don't look that old." He wasn't being cute or clever, he was just being honest.

And your post certainly doesn't qualify as a whine in my book.

How dare you insult my dear senior senator  ;)

Maybe nobody's brought it up to her... if she isn't noticing those things can be hard to condition away.

edit: Scarlet... how helpful was toastmasters? they have it at my future work place but I'm not sure i want to allocate extra hour or half hour to it.

My Calc II class we had a foreign Grad Instructor. I was easily bored in class and made a habit of counting the number of times he'd say, "you see", "ok", and "umm". I think the class was 50 minutes long and often the number would top 60 for the class. Sometimes he'd get in 15 filler words in 4 minutes.

My favorite story from that class is still how someone asked to review a homework problem which happened to be a word problem and the instructor's answer was, "I no know how to say".

Thanks.

I always try to keep things in perspective and by nature I am an optimistic person. Little g has come a long way and he continues to make progress and things could be worse. Much worse.

Little g is an incredible person and as his father I am so proud of him. However, there is not a day that goes by in which I tell myself that this entire situation f ing sucks.

As for the teasing, it no doubt will get worse over time and will probably never go away. It hurts me as a parent because you want to protect your child but the reality of it makes it nearly impossible.

Watching sports helps take my mind off of life for a bit. I am just glad that I will get to see my favorite MN teams bring home this season......t Rose Bowl, a World Series and once Mr. Favraverahh comes on board we will get another Super Bowl. Not to mention planning a ttp for one of the bestest programs in D1 hockey is always a good time. ;)
