Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

Welcome to the midwest. I obviously don't buy half-cows or whatever, but I do like to occasionally head to the meat market (a store that sells pretty much only meat) and buy a steak or two, etc. They are plentiful here.

Not just in the midwest. I grew up in farm country, PA and my parents bought a pig and a half-cow every year at the county fair from the 4-H kids (I also raised pigs for years).

Morning, kids! Severely limiting my time on here and facebook while at work. Productivity must increase if I'm to keep my job. (Personal crackdown, nothing from the employer that would lead me to believe I'm in trouble.)

Morning lodge. Had a bad day off yesterday (well the evening was ok, but the rest of the day sucked) and its another crazy week. We have our big benefit dinner Friday so we'll be feeding 300+ for lunch then 200 for a $75/person dinner and our genious marketing department decides to have the last big marketing event tomorrow for 145 (and growing) Is it Saturday yet?? :(

I had never heard of the term Strong Island in reference to Long Island until HP1015 used it, and I looked it up.

BTW, I grew up in Whitestone (Queens) just across the LI Sound from SUNY-Maritime. One of my closest friends from childhood graduated from there.

s'upp y'all..

went to see Transformers with Ethan last night... little guy fell asleep halfway through the movie (missed the middle 80 minutes). he woke up though to see the final battle and search, so it worked out well.

made me laugh as megatron and starscreem left the desert. Ethan goes, "they need a new army... better go to the supermarket" and started laughing (he goes to the store with his grandfather and comes home with a new Transformer all the time).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

I'm halfway through SUNY Maritime, down just outside of NYC. Theres also

Mass Maritime- Buzzard's Bay, MA
Maine Maritime- Castine, ME
Kings Point (US Merchant Marine Academy)- Long Island, right across the river from us, and our archrival.
Great Lakes Maritime- Traverse City, MI
TX A&M- Galveston
California Maritime- Vallejo, CA

USCG an Annapolis are to a much lesser extent schools for training, but most of the grads there go on to be military officers as opposed to working in the commercial industry.

We'll see in 2 years once I graduate where I'll go. It's nice being on the lakes and being in port every 2nd or 3rd day, but longer trips are nice because you can get into a routine. I'll have an unlimited 3rd mates license, so I can go anywhere with it really.

I live a few miles from Maine maritime, know many folks who have graduated from there. I thought maybe you went to MMA. I have a neighbor from NY that taught at one of the NY Maritime schools , not sure which though. He's been retired for awhile

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

I have been tempted by the pending Cash for Clunkers plan. I drive an 11 year old Subaru. Only about 90k on the clock (commuter car with fairly short commutes). I asked the wife about trading in earlier when the dealers were all offering great deals and mine needed a grand worth of work on it. Wife said "let's keep it" (she doesn't drive it ;) ). Since, it has needed another grand, then another $300 on it.:(

It won't qualify under the program, but what if I went on Craig's list and offered to trade straight up for a real clunker? Then I trade it in for the $4,500. ;)

it isn't as bad as everybody says it is, really. Ideal? No, but nothing ever is, right?

Do a search for Vista tweaks to make it run faster, namely disabling Windows Aero, as it doesn't really do much other than make things flashier and more glamorous.

Ack -- I'm torn between working until my eyes actually fall out (they already hurt -- as does the rest of me) or going home and getting some sleep and a fresh start tomorrow.
