Besides I am sure that horse or dog or NASCAR tires diguised as beef is worth passing on anyways. :p ;) :D :)
Speaking of beef...anyone want to buy a 1/4 beef? We might have an extra 1/4 steer that is unspoken for...I'd have to check with the homestead to see if it is still available.

Sorry. Just orderd a half that will be ready early August.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 78: The Rep Lodge Yacht club.

I am going to toot my own horn.

So, back in February I won a fish house (wheelhouse). It is a nice fish house but not one that I would have purchased. This morning while waiting for an appointment I over heard a guy with two young boys (probably ages 7 and 10) talking to his wife about wanting to buy a fish house. The two young boys would speak up every now and then about how fun it would be to fish with dad in a nice fish house.

(In a round about way I know of this family and they are good hard working people who don't have much in regards to material possesions.)

The type of house they described was very similar to the one I have but their budget was nowhere near the range that would allow them to buy the type of house they wanted. Being the nice guy I am I politley interrupted their conversation and asked how much they wanted to spend on a fish house. They gave me a number. I gave them my address and asked them to look at the fish house I have and if they like it they can have it for $500.00 less than the price they wanted to spend. Which is less than half of what the fish house is worth.

The family just stopped by and gave me cash for the fish house. Both the mom and dad had tears in their eyes as they thanked me over and over again. The two boys were also genuinely appeciative and were no doubt amped for winter to get here. :)

Awesome! :)

Yet, bittersweet

I was going to contact you regarding that fish house, since I knew you wanted to sell it, and I am now officially in the market. We finally closed on my Mom's town home, and after paying down debt, there was a stipend left that I was/am going to use for a wheeled fish house.
Guess I'm headed to Milaca this weekend to look at the 2008 models they're trying to unload

Will they be throwing you a ticker-tape parade?

I just ordered a half beef from my Aunt and Uncle in Pine City this weekend. It'll be ready in September. :)

Yes, it is bittersweet. However, the fish house was not big enough for me and the two little monkey's with them running around one or both of them would eventually get wet or burned or tangled up or all the above. I won it so I have nothing invested in it besides the $5.00 I spent on raffle tickets. This spring we sold the SUV for a minivan so I had no means to get it on the lake. Lastly, the family that bought it will use it and get more out of it than I ever would have. Besides, when I do decide to buy the house I want....Mrs. g cannot say "what about the one you have?". It's all part of the plan and everything is falling into place nicely. ;)

Milaca? Ice Castle? :)

Wow, everyone must have a straight-from-the-farm beef connection now!:p

I'm considering buying it myself, but thats hard for me to do, since every time I visit my parents my mom insists on send a bunch of meat with me. It sucks to buy steak after getting it for free for your entire life.

Buy it. I will TAKE the best cuts of steak off your hands to make more room in the freezer if that will help. :p

I think that's where I'm headed. I like their line of houses. My only critical decision points are - do I Get one that has the double wide rear doors so I can bring an ATV (or two) in it, and how big can I go now that I've downsized my Chevy from the 6.0 liter 3/4 ton to the 5.3 liter 1/2 ton. Another factor is getting one with a chemical toilet, since I really want Mrs. Gonzo to join me on several trips. An indoor loo is nice for the ladies. :)

Try this. "Mrs. Gonzo I really want to spend more time with you. In order to do so I need to buy x fish house. But I cannot pull x fish house with the truck I have. Can I buy a new bigger earth hating truck? Please? Pretty please with sugar on top?" ;)

Edit. Ice Castles are very nice and I have not heard many complaints with my buddies that have them.

How many lbs in a half? Not exactly but generally:D You get to pick how you want it cut? Does it come wrapped and frozen?

350 pounds of rail meat on average for a half.

FWIW - My butcher charges .39 a pound to process. $15.00 to butcher. .20 a pound to grind into hamburger.

With factoring in what I pay the farmer for the beef I am guessing I will pay on average about $1.20 per pound for everything all in. $420.00 for half a beef is a pretty good deal as compared to the crap that is sold in the grocery stores.

Cows and fish houses (though where I'm from we call them fish shanties)... this thread could not be more midwestern right now if we tried.
