huskyfan- re: your rep

heh, I'm assuming you saw that on boatnerd? Silly people, we were anchored just S of Port Huron waiting for a turbocharger to repair our engine. No groundings have occurred yet, haha.

and Leswp1: I'm on a ship up on the great lakes for a school internship of sorts until August, and I'm trying to get pilotage time for some of the rivers near Sault Ste. Marie and Detroit, so I work throughout the time we're there (usually 8-10 hours). I know that doesn't sound like much, but sleep usually comes in short batches out here, and that day I could have slept while in our first port, but wasn't tired until just when I had to go work... go figure.

yup. boatnerd.

les, he's not just on a boat, its the biggest boat on the Great Lakes. real pretty.

do you swear, smoke cigars and pee over the side ala Gonzo?
I thought it was a cruise ship:o I fool so feelish...

Just back from the beach where it was windy and mostly sunny. Had a wonderful baked haddock dinner with fresh broccoli ( steamed and not too much :)YUM!) and a baked potatoe while looking over the pier at the fishermen coming in with their gear and wearing layers. Must have been cold out there in the wind. Now watching the homerun thingy with L'il and Mr.

On occasion do you dress up like a pirate (like ASaag does when Mrs. Shot is out of town)? :D
A pirate? Arrrrrgh, matey! I'll make ye walk the plank right after I swash my buckle. Arrrrgh!

Good evening, partiers! Working a short night shift, till 11 PM. My productivity may suffer due to USCHO.

I hope everyone's doing well!
USCHO has nothing to do with it. The only reason your productivity is going to suffer, Mr. Efficiency, is because your I.Q. matches Billy Sauer's goals against average of 3.78. :D

I had leftover Wally smoked chicken, done beautifully with apple wood. Baked potato, sliced, with pieces of garlic in each slice, topped with olive oil, wrapped in aluminum foil and smoked on the grill beside the chicken. Finally, red cabbage and carrot slaw, with homemade red vinegar, olive oil, mustard and honey vinagrette.

Sadly, Miss Kelly was unable to join me on the voyage. I kept an eye out for her in every port of call, but no sightings :(

:D

I do have to admit that the whole midnight sun thing, while cool at first, is tough to adjust to if you don't have good light inhibiting curtains on your room. Even after "sunset", you could still see as well as the rest of the day. It never got truly dark at all until we were in SE Alaska.

Darn. Although I think she'd freak out if a giant Muppet came up to her and said, "Hi, I'm Gonzo, and I sorta know this guy in MN who posts on the same hockey message board that I do, and who would love to spend a week with you for some happy fun time. He cusses a lot, watches IRT, and loves hockey. Wanna come back to MN with me?" :D

And that would be cool to see the midnight sun thing. And yeah, I'm sure it messes with your sleeping. I remember trying to adjust when I used to work the overnight shift years ago. It was horrid.

All I can say is: What kind of Lodge-dweller doesn't even vote in the poll?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

Hey Gonzo,
Now that the Great Alaskan Expedition is over are you still thinking about putting together some kind of get-together?
I'm working through my work schedule and planning some travel for work and remembered that this get-together was mentioned.

Yup - looking at Sat. Aug 15th. The basics are as follows - BYOB, BYO grill goods/sandwich fixings and something to share with all. (Potato salad, chips, cookies, etc.) I'll supply grills, firewood, bug dope and shelter if needed. I'll also have a big bottle of Sapphire for some tasty G&T's :)

I dunno, it might have worked. You're steadily employed and single, which are two critical success factors for hot chicks ;)

Ok, I think I'd be able to make it. I'll have to plan on getting some large chunks of red meat for grillin'!
Aug 15 weekend I think I'm in CO. :(
You're too busy.:p
aug 15th weekend is a golf weekend.
nice. Is there a weekend you don't golf? Not like that is a bad thing!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

How I wish that were true. It was the only weekend where Sloe/Quiz, my CO Springs friends, and my vacation would work in combination with each other. :o

What all is going on? I may just have to swing by and investigate this.

Well, you have to take moments where you can. It's not easy to coordinate a get together with friends in different parts of the country.
Are you still willing to send out info via Facebook per our earlier discussion if needed?
Still haven't created an account :o

I'm flying out sometime on either Thu or Fri (most likely Fri) and hanging in Denver. Then on Sun, I'm planning to head down to the Springs to hang with my friends from here who moved out there a couple years ago. Then fly home on either Sun or Mon. Nothing big, that I know of.

Yeah, I can do that. I could also text/call people too, if need be, since I have most of the guests' numbers, IIRC. Just send me the list you need contacted, and I'll find a way.

I had pork tenderloin with rosemary, baked potato, steamed carrots, and a whole wheat English muffin tonight for dinner. Just wasn't enough... then again, nothing ever is.

Evening, Lodge. Looking forward to a 4 mile run tomorrow morning, then my last PT appointment (until I need it again).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

huh, thats big. I'm guessing it takes more than a 15 horse Johnson to move it.

edit: and since I'm an engine guy, I'm really curious to find out what does power a huge ship like that. (please don't say CAT!!!!!)

there was a really good article that my parents found but I can't seem to find it on a search. Detailed the powerplant really well in all that engine jargon that I just nod and agree as if I know what it means;)

I'll try seeing if they still have the link, but all I can tell you is that our 2 engines combine for ~17,000 ponies, and the ship is getting new engines this winter, supposed to be more efficient and less polluting.

edit: found it! here's basically a really well detailed description of everything (and, if you look at the pictures on the right hand row a little more than halfway down is a really neat size comparison aerial photo.):
