Sunny but cool here in Bemidji. Just had room service deliver lunch and we ate out on the deck. Sun feels good.

The g family is getting ready to take a bike ride around the the lake. First ride of the year and were starting with a 18 mile ride.

Sounds lovely.

Making a cake for a grad party. For 40 people. Never done this before. Figure if it doesn't come out I will go to Costco and buy one. Thinking of Shirtless.

Probably should have costco-ed an auxilliary cake anyhow... 40 people after all :)

Relaxing day at Chez Rube. Going to venture over to Armadillo's place later, because he said he is going to burn stuff, and that sounds like fun. Hopefully going to get another good night's sleep tonight and be fully recharged and back to normal.

After years of hearing the hockey stories (well, most of 'em ;) ) my folks decided to take their summer vacation in the UP. They are doing the same loop that some of the hockey people did last fall. They basically want to visit all the places we did, take in some scenery, and see "what all this Houghton fuss is about" (their words). Should be interesting to hear their take on the area. Oh, and in following the tradition of some of us, they are not spending any money in WI (WI doesn't deserve our money!), unless it's for New Glarus. :D

Cake done. Phew. Came out OK. Took forever but everything went smoothly. Must have been channeling Shirtless.

Have a cake pan that is a bit oversized with straight sides so regular cake recipe usually comes out flat so did 2 batches to make a taller cake. Made one chocolate cake, one vanilla. Used vanilla frosting. Pipied some melted semisweet choc onto parchment to make music notes. Came out pretty cool looking. Proud of myself

OK, that sounds like a cake I would eat. Now I need something chocolate. I should make cupcakes. Well, not now. But at some point.

Bike ride was awesome today. Great weather and scenery and spent it with my family. Got back to our place and took a dive in the lake. Oh my...........it was just a little cold. (the lake had ice on it just a few weeks ago)

Currently sitting around a huge bon fire. The temp is cool enough in which the heat of the fire feels great. No wind. Clear sky. Stars everywhere. Fifty feet from the lake. Kids are out of gas and sleeping. mrs g by my side. Surrounded by good friends. Top shelf bourbon. Life is good.

Sounds like my kind of night.

Had a couple brews with Armadillo and Mrs Armadillo, watched him play June Bug Baseball (a couple huge ones were being all noisy and flying around the garage). Quiet, relaxing night.

I learned this in culinary math: Recipe Conversion Factor. Take the amount of people you want to serve (New) and divide it by the servings in the old recipe (Old). Take that result and multiply everything in the old recipe by it.

I got my Wal-Mart discount card a couple days ago; I figure it will come in handy for when I need new kitchen toys.

Crap. My attempt at a +1 for the Biddlyn wedding did not succeed. Not that I was pursuing the woman in question (we're good friends and admittedly gauged interest in the past), but she's never been to MN, nor Houghton (even though she is a MI native now living in CO). That woulda been fun. Oh well.

Y'know? I'm sick of your crap. Stop being cryptic. Are you actually tired? Or are you sending a message, and are bored with us all? Damn former gub'ment employee! :p
