Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 199 - Dumb Poll of the Month

This season, I had no reason to look at bracketology. Just an occasional glance at the pairwise to confirm what I already know; win or go home time.
I have a feeling our season ends this weekend. While I usually love the match-up of the UMs (typically fast paced, up and down the ice, with a ton of talent on both sides), knowing the season is on the line makes me afraid to watch. Watching my team lose in overtime 3 games in a row isn't sparking enthusiasm either.
THis yrs team looks like the keystone cops without organization. When they win I honestly have no idea how. I have zero confidence when I watch. Total crap shoot. Every time. They won 10 in a row (seriousl have no idea how) and reading the home thread I would wonder if I was watching the same team.

What’s this post season you guys talk about?

I did the math Saturday while discussing how much I will not miss this seasons senior class and found UAA had 25 wins in 4 seasons. 25 wins! I’ve also mentioned how UAA basically has one season to show improvement or the program will likely be cut. Of course this just gets me called “a negative person trying his best to destroy the program.”
It’s amazing how deep the losing culture runs here.
Man are you really that powerful? If you pretend things are awesome does some magic happen so no one notices the losses? We had that for a long time. A string of meh. Then we were really good. Now we are back to eh.

Good Evening Lodge!

Do you refer to your team as 'we won' or 'they won'? I never thought about it before a few yrs ago when it became a topic of conversation. I am in a weird spot. mr les works for the team so he could say we if he wanted.

I say "we won" when referring to my teams. There are other teams I do cheer for, that are NOT my teams, and I will say "they won."

Many years ago, probably before USCHO started, when I posted on Hockey-L, I wrote "we won" or something similar. I got a reply from one of WRPI's announcers that unless one is actually on the team, the word "we" should not be used. That probably came from a sports announcer manual or something similar, and it is violated often. I stopped writing "we" for a while, but it seeped back in. Every once in a while when I now write "we", I change it, thinking back to that. Basically, I am inconsistent on this.

I am inconsistent. Typically it's "we". Besides, I had a hockey player's permission.

Back when I was in school and crushing on hockey players (not that I'd ever talk to them in person) I e-mailed Mike Komisarek to congratulate him on a good weekend and probably a conference award like defensemen of the week or something. I mentioned being in the band and he wrote back (which 19 year old wT interpreted as granting permission to stalk him). Anyway, he said [being in the band] I was as much a part of Michigan Hockey as anybody, and that we have the best band in the "conutry". I wasn't sure if it was a typo, or if hockey players are just not good spellers.

For SCSU, I will alternate between "we" and "the boys," depending upon how I choose to write it just then. For every other team there is a disassociation that started with me when the North Stars left town and later the Twins and Vikings kept threatening the same in order to have the taxpayers build them stadia.

If I had that kind of juice hockey would be the least of my concerns.

In all honesty, it’s a generational gap thing. The other UAA posters are all older folks(the vast majority of whom never went to UAA) who see the program and players as kids playing a game, whereas myself and younger folks see the program as the very public face of our alma mater and the players as beneficiaries of a very generous support system with the expectation of results, results that aren’t being met. I honestly wish I could’ve had use of the facilities the UAA Hockey players have when I was in college.

I say “they”. I don’t play for them, I just watch.

Good Evening Lodge!

I figure I suffer thru the loss of mr les 9 mo of the yr so I could claim 'we' but.... I saw that about being we only when on the team at some point too. It makes me cringe when I say we but sometimes I forget

In anticipation of my impending board vacation, I will say my reply in the UAA offseason thread was cathartic and totally worth it.

oooh you naughty boy. Are those people on drugs? You post factoids and their response is sort of like watching people ignore reality in other parts of life. Maybe you should just not go with facts. They are painful and we all know if they are unpleasant they are fake.

If you get a suspension for that, this board has gone really soft. Worse has been said in the pol forums, and other D1 threads.

Eh, it's not like you posted someone with a pancake on their head.
