Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 199 - Dumb Poll of the Month

Goddammit, I'm old. 2 1/2 hours of boot hockey tonight, I am sore as hell already (Monday should be REALLY fun  ). I was pretty much a stay-at-home defenseman, although I got a couple assists. My team went 2-0, though, very lopsided in play. One of the other guys said, "well, hell, it was like playing against 2 goalies all night." :D Yeah, I still have that mentality, and tonight it was "My netminder is NOT facing a shot, if I can help it."

Went out for a post-game meal/beer afterwards, good times. Looking forward to next year's reunion game.

Edit: And HHT! Yayz

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 199 - Dumb Poll of the Month

So, the good folks at my corner store (local brewery) trolled some Pats' fans today. The fans stopped in, saw me in my Rams jersey, and asked, "what's with the Rams fan?"

Beertender: Him? Yeah, don't * with him. He's an ex-felon, got out about 6 months ago. See the Gaelic cross? Yeah, ex-IRA. Busted for explosives.
Fans: ....wait, what?
Beertender: Yeah, he's good now, just don't pi* him off.
Fans (visibly shaken): Good to know.
Beertender: Naw, I'm totally messing with ya. He's just a neighborhood guy. *laughs*

:D Well played, beertender, well played.

I trust you played the part by looking mean and aloof for a few moments? :D

tee hee.
Half time. I had no idea it was half over until they said the half time report is next. Ftb is not my passion.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 199 - Dumb Poll of the Month

mr les says they are very good. As he rarely comments about that stuff without being prompted they must be very good even if it pains me more than a little to hear that about the Dory School (flagship my a55.)

Good Morning Lodge!

When these teams come seemingly out of nowhere, I typically wonder the age of the players. For instance, how many 24 year old Canadians did Union, Quinnipiac, Yale have for their Frozen Four appearances? I looked at UMass' roster to find that despite only having 3 seniors and 3 juniors, their average age is 21.2 years.
Then I watch my favorite team with a ton of talent but not as much maturity, and the lack of maturity is evident in their inconsistent play.

IMO, a team needs a mixture of true freshman and older freshmen to succeed. Teams like your favorite team and Scarlet's favorite team would still be fine if all of those talented players would remain in school for at least three years, but that isn't the case.

The problem has been around "forever". Dick Bertrand was a member of Cornell's 1970 undefeated championship team and was something like 28 years old. (IIRC, he had been a policeman.) He became their head coach soon thereafter.

It pains whenever a player starts his career who is older than I was when I graduated (20 years, 5 months, and 5 days) from college. (Granted, I was socially immature.)
