Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 197: Hot! Hot! Hot!

Good morning Lodge. I know those of you who are friends with me on Facebook saw the news that my cousin Joanne passed away yesterday. It’s just so sad, but she’s at peace now. Thank you guys for being my sounding board through this. I hope I didn’t come across as...I don’t know, whiny? It’s been a weird situation. Families can be challenging. I’m not sure if there will be any service, but I am going to see if I can go down there, hopefully with my parents, at some point.

And since I don’t say this enough to anyone, I love you guys and my college hockey family.

All of us have had some tough times. Vent away, my friend, that's what the rest of us are here for, to listen and be a sounding board. I also hope you find peace in all this family drama, too.

MN is often rated as one of the healthiest states, IIRC. This region also is only second to Siberia as to temp swings on a yearly basis (not just MN, mind you; I think it was the upper midwest). Body HAS to adapt, or perish. It's not just illness, but accustomed to the weather at hand.
Ha. Nothing to so with the weather. Everything to do with excellent Scandinavian stock.

What Hoven said. You weren't whiny. You were in an untenable situation and sad at the same time. Sorry things had to happen the way they did. Sometimes no matter how you try to do the right thing, it turns out nothing will be the right thing. ::virtual hugs::

Good Morning Lodge!

Went to the beach yesterday and saw a seal on the beach. What a scene. They have a whole protocol which includes roping off the area within X feet. The thing moves and they need to move where they rope off. Beach was ridiculously crowded down there (public part). The jockeying and shifting was like watching a movie. People with umbrellas and encampments ~ holy toledo- the stuff people bring to the beach. Some of these people bring half their house! All having to move with absolutely no space to squish into. I was walking and tried to go past- It was a mine field. Man, is the beach eroding. Where there used to be gently slope is now a mini 3+foot cliff. Makes for horrible access to water and compacts the crowds. Even the state park, usually fairly flat with a wide beach, has shrunk. Way more than usual. Like 20-30+ yards thinner since last yr at end of summer. Won't be long before there is little beach left at high tide. Been going there for about 40 yrs and never saw this much loss in one yr.

HHH in 978 land. They said it would be better in AM- 74, feels like 74. By 10 it was 82 feels like 86. Weeded and deadheaded a bit- my socks were wring out wet. BLECH! Need to take a shower but it is so humid I am not sure what the point is

The Beach: We were in Ocean City, MD a couple years ago. I typically wake up early so I'm sitting on our hotel room balcony around 6AM or so and it was amazing to watch people set up for the day. Carts and carts of stuff. It was like they're playing fort.

Scarlet: Sorry about your cousin. A loss like that stinks. :(

This, only more like large castle. Chairs, tables, coolers, umbrellas, wagons, blankets, large mats (deck mats), etc. That is if they don't have kids.

Made it to our family camp on the St. Lawrence River this evening. Uneventful for the most part after that tire blowout. Although I think this tire they put on to replace has a slow leak, probably seal, maybe valve stem. Made the later part of day 2 (Raleigh to Albany) a little stressful.

Like Brent and the MN crew's trip to the UP, this is quite similar in terms of just relaxation and "fixing" the stresses of life.

Has the world ended? No RFAlph or MEUSA and I am the first to say Good Morning Lodge!

Beautiful day so far. Actually cooler and the dew point has finally dropped. Phew. Only a day of nice before yuck again.

Almost the end of July. To most people that is the middle of summer. mr les starts work in earnest 1st week of August so feels like the end of summer to us, sort of. Will be weird that lilsnl is not going to school soon too. First time in 19 yrs we have no back to school.

One visit to Hilton Head and I'm spoiled. I hated going to the ocean b/c of my experiences growing up visiting the Jersey Shore and the Cape. As a result, OC was barf and one visit was enough. HH is nothing but beaches. No barriers separating this portion of the beach from that beach. No commercialism. And the sand is different.

next month - back to HH via a brief stay at Myrtle Beach.

Scarlet - hang in there.

Good morning Lodge. Thanks all for the kind words. I’m doing ok today. Heading up to see my folks today. We’re going to talk about making the trip to Florida some time in August. My folks talked to my aunt yesterday. Joanne is going to be cremated tomorrow.

Had a nice night last night. Thirty years ago I was part of a committee that planned a this national conference. It was a huge success. We had a reunion last night. Lotta laughs, reminiscing, hysterical pictures from the past. It was good to get out.

Morning, Lodge. Had an awesome time for Armadillo's 40th b-day last night at the local Mediterranean place. They had belly dancing (the real kind, not the stripper/whatever BS), and he was invited on stage to dance with her, which was HILARIOUS. A couple of us decided to splurge and got a hookah, which was interesting.

Great food, great beer, fun time.

I went bike riding, and as often is the case didn't yawn. :D
