Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

My wanting to give gifts has nothing to do with the commercialism of the holiday. The holidays are what you make of them.

I give because I love my family and want them to be happy. My mom can't afford the really nice things in life so I want to give her these opportunities.

For my family, it's always been about family traditions. Aunt (RIP, sadly) used to call us at 5am just to see if Santa visited. She made that call every year into her 50s, when she passed. My mom and uncle still fake-fight over the gizzard/heart. Until last year when my g-pa died, he wore a Christmas ribbon on his forehead as gifts were handed out. Now, we take turns carrying on that tradition. I wore the ribbon last year.

To me, THAT is what Christmas is about. Family and friends.

I just never have any idea what to get people, hate shopping, hate stores and malls....also, I hate it when I have to think of stuff I want. No, there is nothing I want, if I wanted it, I already bought it. Because of that, and the fact I don't want to subject other people to the torture of shopp8ng either, I don't need to receive gifts either, and wouldn't care if I got nothing.

I'd much rather just hang out with friends and family, eat well, and give/get gag gifts. That is a fun time, and I enjoy that part.

All of this.

Good morning Lodge. Last day of work for 2016 - yay! I'm on my way for a consultation with a physical therapist this morning. I've been going to a massage place to work out the kinks in my upper back and neck. Last time I went the masseuse said I had many knots and that maybe I should go for some PT. We'll see what happens. The practice I'm going to was recommended by a co-worker who is a runner and had an issue with her hip. Wish me luck!

I still wear the same Christmas socks on Christmas morning that I did when I was 14. I used to walk over from my Cousin's house to the Aunties and my Auntie who passed would make noises about my feet being cold.

I have a bank account for every kid in our family. I add to it every yr. They get it when they are 18 or graduate from high school. Re-ups til they marry then it is for their kids. They dream a million things they will do with the money before they get it. Kind of like 2 gifts. The imagination and the reality when they get it.

Good Morning Lodge!

I don't think that I want to know how she knew.

Watching Terrier All Access, a half hour, behind the scenes show (kinda like a 24/7)on the BU Hockey team and they just did a "where are they now?" on Freddy Meyer./lodge content

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

Good Evening, Lodge!

Been busy making cookies and caramels. Mainly caramels so I can ship them out to the family. It is my way to carry on the tradition of my grandma.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

I believe my Christmas shopping is now done. I just have to go tomorrow night and order a relish tray for Saturday, and go out late Friday night to make sure I have enough wrapping paper, tape and labels. I can do that one very late, as there won't be many people in the store at 11 PM, and I can use the self-scan lanes.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

Here's a hint to DHead Boss: if you want 5 pallets of stuff over at the main building and only have 1 truck at the end of the night, don't ask me to ship that stuff 30 minutes before cutoff time, while I'm busy doing my job. Just sayin'. Ain't gonna work.

That being said, the next two days should be slower than hell. Slow(er) week so far already. Weather is looking good, things are peaceful...and I'm looking over my shoulder, because things are TOO quiet. ;)

Don't keep us in suspense - where is he hacking now?

Did I mention my office has a keggerator? The taps right now are labeled "Fat Tire", "Miller Light," "Home Brew," and "Nitro Coffee.". The Light was cause we had happy hour last night for a client and they requested a light beer. Couple of the guys here do home brewing and made the home brew - which got finished last night. The Nitro Coffee is a cold press, very strong delivered with compressed nitrogen.
