Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

Got some good news at work today, we are trying to hire 4 more people. Apparently, we weren't having luck in the last couple of weeks b/c whatever recruiter we use was coaching people on what to say, and other applicants would schedule an interview, only to no-show so they could prove they were "looking for work" and stay on the government dime. We put pressure on the recruiting company, and they ditched the current person assigned to us, and gave us a "more senior recruiter."

I don't know what happened in the past few years, but I remember that our company never even HAD to advertise for help. You felt LUCKY that you even HEARD of an opening, much less get considered for one. The pay is ok, benefits are decent...sure, it's a bit tedious and all, but it's work...

Good Morning Lodge. Cloudy in 978 land and it feels wonderful!

Got a good laugh out of work today. After a long day that started at 4 AM ET, I d@mn near lost it when I received an 8 AM CT invite to "mandatory security awareness" training for the client in Chicago I have desperately been trying to get out from under. Accepted. Grumbled.

Half-hour later, I get notice for mandatory roll-off acknowledgement. Declined the invite with the note "Change of plans, just got my roll-off notice." :D

I don't know what s "mandatory roll-off notice" is so that last post makes no sense to me.

Means I am off the project, but it "rolls" on...into the gutter, in this case. I'm pretty good, but not enough of an egomaniac to know I can't save this POS, especially since all the decisions are made above my pay grade.

More good news at work. After the change of recruiters last week, we currently have 20 applicants for 4 positions. Gonna guess (and hope) that we can find 4 good ones in there...

Got called to the main building today, to help finish up. New Lead felt bad about it, he's probably the best one when it comes to having me leave right from off-site. So, I mentioned I really would like to leave from off-site on Thu, no matter what. He told me, "I'm going to do all I can to make that work" and apologized again for having to get me to the main building tonight.

I could recruit for ServiceNow like a fiend for the next year. I have the connections to at least get the good guys to interview. ;)

I didn't even know we had a recruiter until last week. When I applied, I found it on Monster dot com. Then you talked directly to the branch you were applying for. And even THAT was rare. Now, apparently, you have to go through a recruiter, who notifies corporate, who then notifies the branch, etc. THEN the interview process starts. IF you pass the interview and get an offer, it's another week or two for the drug test/blah blah blah.
