Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

So the building across the street from us burned down last night in Ybor City. Weird start to the frozen four.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

It was kind of crazy. We heard the alarm going and I thought it was just the contractors accidentally breaking a window or something and setting off an alarm. Then someone said, "uh, there's smoke coming from the roof. The building is on fire."

We ended up getting closed out of two bars as they started pushing the perimeter back.

Ended up at James Joyce and basically closed that place down. At 3 am the whole area was still closed off.

All over a **** disco ball.

Waaaay back when I was a student employee at the U of MN I was monitoring a system on a Saturday and got a fire alarm come in from a building (Sheperd Labs) and a tradesman promptly called me on the intercom from the mechanical room. "I was welding in here and set off the alarm somehow" he told me. We reset the alarm and I notified the U police that it was a false alarm. On Monday we learned there had been a wastebasket fire on an upper floor which burned itself out. This was back when there were steel wastebaskets and smoking inside buildings. Someone probably dumped an ashtray into a basket on the way out of the office and there was a smoldering butt in there.

Good for you! Call centers are... yeah, good for you! Seriously.

I had been there for a year and four months, and was very burned out on it. I'll still be on the phone a lot, but it'll be doing call outs on requests that are received not in good order. I get to research into the issue and know what the call will be about before I'm ever on the phone with the person. I'll also be doing plenty of things off the phone, and will have more opportunities for overtime. Because I'm working with variable annuities, all tasks have to be completed same day.

No more rigid schedule, no more wackadoo metrics that actually promote you doing a half-arsed job, no more certain QA auditor that for some reason had me in their crosshairs. I think the last one is because I've never failed quality.

I'm pumped. Can't wait for May 2nd.

Melrose did everything but crown BC the national champs (though he tried like hell)!

Tomorrow he will spend the whole game comparing the teams to what BC would have done  I don't know why he bugs me so much but he sends me into the stratosphere.

Had a great National Beer Day!

The highlight was getting a sneak preview of an upcoming beer from a local taproom (HammerHeart). Barrel Aged Chocolate Stout. ZOMG amazing. He also told Dillo and I many a story about the Isle Of Skye/old conquerors (of which many of their beers are named after). Ended the night at church. Man, I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow, but oh well.
