Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #180: Holiday Onslaught

Cheer has become some sort of hybrid gymnastics sport.

Especially this time of the year. It's like the Running of the Bulls, without the degree of safety.

My aunt and uncle tell me Irish dancing parents are worse. That they even put the beauty pageant ones to shame with the crazy.
I think pretty much any sport/dance/whatever that involves kids is not for the kids anymore. Parents have lost track of what the verb "to parent" means and they certainly have lost track of what priorities should be (IMHO). People live their whole lives around the activity to the point of putting themselves in debt, pulling their kids from school, etc. What sane person would ever think it is OK to have an 8 yr old competing at 10:30PM? If you try to be a voice of reason watch out. You may not come out alive.

Good morning everyone!

Good morning everyone!

I met some parents that have a child in cheer. They live in Sioux Falls, SD. MPLS Is the closet city to them that holds a national event. The weekend before they were in Kansas City. In a couple weeks they will be in Chicago. Their daughter was 8 or 9 years old.

Could be. My daughter did it for years but never in competition. She just liked the dancing. As for the parents , there was a lot of competition at the Guinness line.

Morning, Lodge. Obviously heading to church today, still cashing in on free food.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #180: Holiday Onslaught

Good afternoon Lodge. Voice is slowly coming back, now I'm actually congested. Afrin works pretty good on that.

Did a little shopping online last night, then got a couple more things this morning. Went to the drive-up ATM on the way to the supermarket, the person in front of me left her card in the machine. Was trying to figure out what to do with it when she drove back in a panic. I feel like I did a good deed this morning. Making avgolemono soup today, and then other baking later.

MOA is always a zoo but during the holidays it is cranked way way up. We witnessed a young couple drop about what I estimated to be around $5,000 at the Ameican Girl store. Their three young daughters brought their dolls with so that that they (the dolls) could get their hair and nails done.

Another thing that is new to me and now drives me nuts? We are staying at the Hilton in MPLS. The hotel is host to a national cheer competition. Tons of girls of all ages running around. most of these girls are really young and wearing tons of make up and they along with their parents are all psycho. To each their own but this seems quite excessive. Cheer. Really?

big g is allowed to take pictures to share!!

Jasmin sat in my row. I, being a thoughtful lodgeonian, message mookie with a picture. mookie's response "You could have taken a picture of the boots/shoes too!!"

Here I was, thinking I did well to get her to turn to talk to me so I could get a pic. Obviously I should have taken a pic without the head.....

:p

*HT. Who the hell gets swept by UConn? :o :o :o

The good juju was obviously with your basketball team team today.

I'm exhausted. Did my cooking and baking. Soup for the week. It came out pretty good! And the cookies are great. I've been eating the broken ones. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #180: Holiday Onslaught

well.... haven't seen anything yet along the lines of "hey scarlet and mookie, let's _______ " :D
Well... I figured mookie would just walk up to me at the game... ;)

I did send Scarlet an email. Not sure what's going on as there's some who want to tailgate and some who want to pregame at the local watering hole. As soon as I know something I'll let you know.

Would have done that sure.

But anything prior to the game sounds good too. I'll have the middle boy with me and she is staying at the same hotel as we are in new haven.
