gmann - read back in the previous thread - Awesome about the Vikings. I've given up watching football for ethics reasons, but it's good to read that there are still good people in the league who give a chit about the fans. How is the dog?

Dog is doing ok. Took him to the vet a couple weeks ago for another check up. I informed the vet that I was entertaining the idea to drop pup off for a four week obedience/hunting training and vet said no way to training for hunting. To much physical activity and pup is not ready. Next year I guess (fingers crossed).

In other news he will be getting his nuts cut off next week.......so at least he's got that going for him. ;)

Currently dealing with septic issues..........our mound system might be shot. F an a.

The boys and I will be heading out for a quick weekend camping trip and then next week I am heading up with some of my best buds for a 5 day camping trip as I need to kill a bunch of my slower brain cells. ;)

If you can find something on circadian Rhythm to read it is truly fascinating- Resp status is the lousiest at 1-4 AM, BP highest at 8-10Am, Cortisol levels best at 8 AM, Gastric acid the most at 11PM, Kidney function is most active at 3-4AM etc. None of this is affected by what shift you work, whether you are awake or asleep. That is why you bloat working nights- you don't diurese well if you are not flat.

Went to a class on it once. Easily the most fascinating class I ever took. They figured this all out when the astronauts were having issues orbiting earth. Most of the research started from NASA stuff
I was wondering about the bloat. I haven't had an issue yet (this is only my 3rd night shift - though it is the 3rd in a row), however, when I was in nursing school and working nights in the ED, I'd feel like I needed Lasix after a shift. I also have awoken with a dire need to pee at 1400 the last days, but I have been attributing it to the 2L of water I've been drinking to stay awake.

Good Morning Lodge.

I'd die in about 2 weeks of trying to work night shift. Maybe less.
You adapt. I was working day shift (7a-7p) for the 7 weeks of orientation at my new job, which meant early wake up times for me. Even feeling exhausted, I could not get to sleep and was restless when sleeping. Since changing to nights, I get 8 hours of almost uninterrupted sleep (aside from a quick pee break) and feel much more rested. Tomorrow is the switch day, which kind of sucks, but is an excuse for a pile day (basically, I stay awake from 1600 on Tuesday until I go to bed on Wednesday night (2200-ish) with only a short 1-2 hour nap to reset to a "normal schedule". I plan to do laundry, watch West Wing, and read. I try to stay on a "normal schedule" when I'm not working and bundle my work shifts so that I can spend time with the husband and interact with normal people.

Good to hear that the dog is doing better - and I'm all for nut-removal on pets.

Jealous of your sons - your last camping trip sounded so fun. They are so lucky to have a dad like you that is so involved in their day to day and interested in sharing these experiences with them.

Checking in. Only an 8 hour shift tonight (11p-7a) as I am taking a class for work during the day on Friday (8a-4:30p). Looking foward to a pile day tomorrow, haircut on Thursday (and dress shopping for another college hockey wedding - UNH and Cornell), and then the Highland Games on Saturday (celebration of Scottish heritage with men wearing kilts and "crotch bags" and "log carrying competitions"). (The husband did not appreciate my summary of these events to my mom - apparently there is a proper name for the bags that hang around the hips of men in kilts as well as a proper term for log throwing competitions).

I'm sure you know this, but for those that don't... The purse is called a sporran. It's quite useful for me when the hubster wears his kilt as I'm not much of a purse carrier; I can put my things in his purse. The smart guys get the ones made with fur (real or not) and use it to ask the ladies (or gents, if they're so inclined) to pet their sporran. :)

The log throwing is tossing the caber. I've been to my share of games; the in-laws are fairly into their clan heritage.

I got school-ed on Sunday so that I don't embarass the hubs when we go. I was joking, but I will say that "crotch bag" did earn a giggle from him. He does take his heritage seriously and did consider wearing a kilt for our wedding, however, decided to go the suit instead (I was a tad disappointed). He is a decendant of Clan Urquhart on his mother's side (dad is 100% Italian). Unfortunately, it doesn't appear any other members of his clan will be there at the clan gathering. (Boy, this sounds super racist, but it's clan with C, I swear).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #179: Crisp Autumn Weather, Football, and Hockey

I love insomnia.

Well, since I've been awake since 2:00 and I'm not falling back asleep at this point, I'm going to be the first one at the gym when it opens.

My grandfather was a champion at caber throwing when he was a teen. Where is this- I may be flying solo this weekend and that would be something to do.

Went to some in Inverness, top of Loch Ness when we were in the home country. My personal favorite was the stone throw. They had 2 inch spikes in their shoes.

Jebus, high schools here are still in fall sports - Captains' practice only now, high schools can't start until November. Youth tryouts start next week.

ETA: Holy crap, pee-wees started skills grading last night! I've only been out of youth hockey for a couple years and already I forget how soon it starts. I better get Jr to make a decision if he wants to coach again.

Sometimes melatonin works a bit too well, especially if you can only manage 6-7 hours. On occasions when I need to take it, I usually cut the 3mg tablets in half and they still work, with a lot less morning grog.

They are starting a HS pre season thing here. Sunday games overlapping fall sports.

The Highland Games start on Friday and go through late Sunday afternoon up at Loon Mountain. I'd like to go Friday for the Sheepdog competition, but I have a mandatory critical care class, so we'll be headed up on Saturday for the day. I will FB you my phone number if you would like to meet up if you make it up there. I will let tcbg know that your family lands abut his. I think he may start getting into geneology research on that side as the Italian side is murky - his last name is ridiculously common (it is an Italian word that was given to thousands through the years based on their rank and they proliferated) and his grandparents actually had the same last name but two totally different families (though I make fun of him for having a wreath instead of a tree - good thing we're not having kids!! It's really big in Worcester - the priest that presided over the funeral we went to last year has the same name but is a redheaded Italian from yet another family).

I will read through the articles! I ended up coming home and napping from 8:30 -11am and feel much better. I'm struggling a little with my daily medication as it is timed ( 30-60 minutes before the first meal of the day). Since I only work a few days a week, my NP recommended taking it at 0900 every day regardless of work or not. I'm unsure about taking her advice as I have not been impressed with her handling of treatment of this DX which was made last year. The overnights actually allows for 8 hours of sleep (9 if I really stretched), which is uninterrupted. We bought blackout curtains and tcbg bought me an eyemask, plus the fan, and I haven't had trouble yet. I'm hopeful.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #179: Crisp Autumn Weather, Football, and Hockey

Just a few minutes ago my work PC was updated to a relatively modern browser (IE11). It's amazing that when I go to a website the content actually appears and it's not yelling at me to upgrade to a modern browser! Will the wonders ever cease?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #179: Crisp Autumn Weather, Football, and Hockey

I have an older version of IE on my work computer and I went to Twitter one day and it said because the browser was out of date they were showing me the mobile version. Not sure I can upgrade it, I think IT has to push that upgrade through. I do also have Google Chrome and I can get regular Twitter on that.

We were forced into the upgrade, as you will be soon too, due to MS ending its support of all older versions of IE. So if you're using Windows 7, then you'll have to move up to IE11. If you're using Windows 10, then you'll have to use MS Edge. Or you can use a third-party browser like Chrome, but my company won't permit those other browsers without explicit business need like supporting external parties who could conceivably use it.
