Virginia Vale area. Pretty much dead center of the Denver metro.

Only tricky part about that area is it's a royal pain to travel east/west across Cherry Creek. The only real good way across is to go all the way down to Evans.

Great part of town. I used to live a little southwest of there - a few blocks from The Campus Lounge.

Great part of town. I used to live a little southeast of there - a few blocks from The Campus Lounge.

Gets a little skeevy by Leetsdale for some reason, but get away from that and things start to turn pretty darn nice.

w00000t!! someone from my church asked me to look up some dead people. I found some stuff and it wasn't making any sense. After several hours I detangeld the tree that is more like a thicket. Holy crap. no wonder I couldn't find anything. Turns out both his grandparents on one side were married twice then their kids were married twice. WHo he thought he was related to has nothing to do with him. I feel like I solved the NYTimes Xword puzzle. After hitting all sorts of blocks on my own tree it was dam fun to find out a boatload of stuff in one night.

It's not a bad thing to own. It's a bad thing to own/owe too much. Unfortunately, it seems like most of the country doesn't understand Economics 101.

I rent because I'm single, yard work sucks, and townhomes/condos are generally bland, characterless places to live (not to mention they often have more unnecessary drama, in terms of owners' associations, than they are worth).

I haven't HEARD of a TH Assoc to even like, much less look into, over all my years (and watching friends fight the system over some piddly thing); single, yard work sucks (but would put up with it for a yard). It's all the other little crap that comes with owning a house/TH I'd have to deal with. In an apt? One call. Fixed. Boomdone. Plus, if I ever want to just pick up and leave (relatively), I can. Easy as pie.

Late night check-in. Short shift today (11p-7a). On orientation, you can't work overtime, so I'm working 2 12-hour shifts (7p-7a) and 1 8-hour shift (11p-7a) and mandatory education classes (8a-4p). Last night of orientation and then I get to spread my wings! Nervous, but excited.

Less than 2 hours until I'm off for 13 days! Little drive from Lake Charles, LA to Houston, then flight home.

You will do fine.

THe US medical world is switching to ICD-10 from ICD-9 today. I cannot begin to tell you the FUBAR this is. Pray for us all.

I own 'cause I wanted a yard and a dog. I enjoy having people over to watch sports, play board games or have a dinner party and there's much more room for that in a house. Also, I could afford it, the housing market was way down when I bought and there was that nice first time home buyers tax incentive.

If Zillow is to be believed, my home is worth about 20% more now than what I paid for it. NaSK and I have discussed that when the time is right for a bigger home, we'll look into costs/income associated with keeping this one and renting it out.

Yeah, I bought at the perfect time. My house is appraised (and has comps) for about 50% more than I paid for it. Buying has worked out very well for me, in that I have gained quite a bit of equity for my investment.

Yeah, DTCC is changing from proprietary NDM to ISO 20022 MQ for CA and PI XFERS. Meanwhile the FRB is changing from proprietary PITA MQ to an UV MQ by 2018, all the while updating both its SAN & LAN setups in preparation for 2018, completely making its SNAFU UAT system all the worse.

I don't know what you wrote, you don't know what I wrote. :p

Wow, the directories for Jr's school that LwB was working on earlier this week were given to the kids today! I guess her outfit is quick at least.

Thinking about booking a room for Mrs and I up on the North Shore of Superior for next weekend to look at leaves and stuff...

You know, I can't recommend reading the Badger thread enough. For the pure joy it brings me, and surefire boost in my morale, there is no better thread on the interwebs.

So that's what the kids are calling it these days.

MNS is somehow responsible for a radar going out in Louisiana, and subsequently my plane has been sitting on an adjacent taxiway for the past 15 minutes in Houston waiting on a re-routing to Tampa. We pulled onto the runway to take off then seconds later took the first taxiway off it.
