Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #178: Oh, mookie's dreams...

Good Morning Lodge.

So GE might get MORE PTO? Is there more PTO to be had? He never works as it is!:p

So that was a fun weekend. Constant work on the house as we tried to react to having 6 windows replaced. The contractor did not do staining/sealing. So Mrs and I with a teensy bit of help from Jr stained and sealed them all, got them cleaned up, painted one of the rooms affected (it needed it and the room was torn apart to let them get at the windows) and put some of the blinds/curtains back up and started putting some rooms back together (office mainly so Mrs could write checks and print invoices). I need the rest from going back to work.

Glad I'm at work and not home right now. Flooding all around Tampa because of steady rainfall, heavy rains the past week or so. Think they're up to about 3 weeks of rain at some point every day.

Tried to get a Fri or two off for the State Fair this year. Unfortunately, I put in my request too late, as a few people have those Fridays off. Oh well. Guess I'll have to show up a bit earlier on a weekend or something, before the crowds really hit.

The beauty of working at one company for many, many, many, years. :)

I can't believe that I've already been with my company for going on 8 years. Doesn't seem like it was that long ago that I was at Tech.

I'm 12 years in, 28 days of PTO. Then you add in up to five carryover days from last year and Federal gov't holidays that the Federal Reserve observes, and I'm doing all right. I've started signing up for weeks off just to use the time this year.

I was able to bank vacation time at my old job. When I was laid off, I was paid the full complement allowed.

No such luck where I am now, though.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #178: Oh, mookie's dreams...

I negotiated to get 3 weeks when I started at this job.

I've turned down job offers that weren't willing to give me more vacation. A big manufacturer in Iowa comes to mind. 8 days vacation and living in the middle of nowhere Iowa, no thanks. I'm gonna need more days so I can get away from IA. I didn't ask for any more money, just vacation, they wouldn't budge (something about corporate policy) so I saved myself from life in that state.

And green isn't your color, right?

Just remember, "Is this heaven? No, It's Iowa." :)

I've been at my current job for 5 years and this is my last. Time for a big boy job as they say.
