Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #176 -- it's Mookie's world, we are just living in it

Hey wT, how did the softball team miss the memo that they're supposed to have ugly helmets?

Girl sports don't get enough money to have awesome helments (I don't actually know that). Don't worry though, grand slam hitter Lauren Sweet has the winged helmet behind the plate.

I'm not sure if the lack of sleep or the allergies have me more tired today. Won my softball game last night. Realized how much I miss 3rd base when I got to field some ground balls at 1st. 1st is fun, but I really like fielding. Got home around 11 and watched Michigan's softball game that I had recorded. Good to see my Wolverines get in the winner's bracket.

Happy Friday Lodgers.

That money was probably diverted to help pay for the football team's out-of-state recruiting parties...uh, I mean "training camps". :D

Things bbdl and malaria have in common.

Ah, malaria. That one won't be a problem. I won't be in a malaria risk area in either country. In Columbia I will be in a dry mountainous area, and in Argentina I'll be in the dry desert oil fields. Not much for mosquitos in either place. Luckily.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #176 -- it's Mookie's world, we are just living in it

Been a long week, my father in law passed away on Wednesday.

He has had significant health issues (f* diabetes  ) the past several years. About two weeks ago he feel asleep in his wheel chair and ended up falling out of the chair, he was fine at first but started to feel rotten and ended up in the hospital. Turns out he cracked is top couple vertebrae. Couple days in the hospital he was doing much better and transitioned to a nursing home/rehabilitation center. In fact, we thought about bringing him to the lake on Monday and would have if the weather had been better. Then on Wednesday they nursing home had to move him back to the hospital as his breathing became very labored. My wife and one of her brothers went down but she didn't think it would really be a big deal. The lad and I were playing in our softball game when my wife got ahold of us to get down to St. Joe's (DT St. Paul) quick as it didn't look good. He slipped away quietly around 10:15 and all six kids made it to the hospital. The neck injury really started to affect his breathing and he may have developed pneumonia. He had both a do not resuscitate and do not intubate (which was good because I could see one brother getting goofy) so it became just a matter of time.

Not unexpected but certainly not easy. :(

What was kinda funny is the family is an unbelievably chatty group so in the room (pretty nice and a good size for a hospital) there were several groups talking away. I was kind of sitting off to one side watching as I had noticed his breathing cadence had started to slow down. No one else really noticed. Finally I said, um guys.....I think he may stop breathing soon.....and as I was saying that he stopped breathing. Best part, if it had been someone else on the bed he would have been the chattiest one there. :)

He taught English for years at MNS' and lil goldy's school and about 10 years ago given the school's lifetime achievement award. At least three of his former students have written books and dedicated the books to him. Hell of an honor and it's amazing the impact he had on his students. Me? I will remember him smoking a cigar while floating on the pontoon at the lake place while trying to coax me into listening to opera. He once played a Rossini opera for me and didn't like it when I recognized the piece. Of course I knew it, I love Bugs Bunny!! :)

Good Lord, Grey. I saw the FB stuff, but didn't know how bad the situation was prior to that. :( My prayers, man.

Thanks, man. What was amazing is he was starting to feel much better. He was a skinny guy, shorter version of you (brent). After he lost his legs he weighed less than 120. He was around 140 a few weeks ago and happier than hell. My son graduated from St. John's a couple weeks ago and another grandson from NDSU the next week so he was having that proud grandparent month.

Neat story about the other grandson, as a 9th-10th grader he was a long shot to finish HS and ended up earning an engineering degree. Grandpa kept encouraging him& they were really tight. Then he slips out of his chair that Sunday and it went downhill from thee.

He saw the graduations. Maybe that was what he and God were waiting for. Hell of a note to go out on, you know? :)

Morning.

bbdl apparently channeled MNS and BRICKED, forgetting that MNS is in town this weekend. Dunno what the plan is, but I'm sure there will be a brewski or two.
