Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Got some work finished last night! Finished fixing the soffits on the garage. They were all rotten, because there was a roof leak where the electric mast went through the roof. Last week we got the meter box and mast fixed, now this week I replaced all of the rotten wood, rebuilt the soffit and finally last night got it painted, and got the vents on. Also touched up all of the soffits around the house where they got paint chipped when the wood siding was removed. It was quite fun laying on the roof, hanging off the side and painting the underside of the overhang. I got paint to match the new vinyl siding, so we have mismatched paint right now, but we have another layer to put on still, but at least it has a layer of paint so I can get my escrow money back. In a couple weeks we'll take a Saturday to repaint it all.

I am so sorry you are having such a bad day. That being said, I laughed the hardest I have in days clicking on that link. Hope it gets better!

:)

You weren't the only one to laugh. The guys at work got a great kick out of it.

I'm glad (seriously) some people got a kick out of it. That thing was horrible to drive in rush hour.

OK, need your feedback on something. Don't worry - it's frivilous and fun.:)

Every year I run a Pick The Winnahs Emmy Challenge at work. It's a fun and stupid contest because I go to the Emmys on my vacation. Everyone at work looks forward to it. I do a presentation when I get back, the "winnah" gets an autographed Emmys program. No money, no betting, just fun. Each category is weighted with points and the person that picks the most correct winner....wins. Now, some of the categories I include in my ballot are awarded at the Creative Arts Emmys the week prior. Individuals who actually care and pay attention, well, they know who/what those category winners are. I have absolutely no problem allowing that. My game, my rules.

I just finished correcting everyone's ballots this morning. The guy who won has given his notice and Friday the 5th is his last day with the company. The two women who came in tied for second - woman A and woman B I'll call them - one (woman A) knew of the few that won the week before and the other (woman B) did not. She literally guessed correctly. I want to award the prize to woman B because:

a) Guy who won doesn't work for the company any more (or won't by the time I present it on the 15th)and I call the category Best Performance by an Employee in the Pick The Winnahs Emmy Challenge
b) Woman A won last year (and I never did my presentation in 2013 and will be doing it the same day so she will be winning something already)

Thoughts???

This sounds like the Poser of the Year award. Adjust the (secret) rules to get the outcome you want. :p

I'd probably announce that the guy won but isn't qualified since he no longer works there, Woman A tied but since she won last year she is disqualified from winning again and give it to Woman B.

Same result just let people know what happened.

WARNING - Girl Post ahead.

I just hooked up my Sony Blue Ray DVD player, using an HDMI cable the Verizon guy gave me when he set up my parents' TVs. All by myself!! And I know I can play a DVD. OK so far so good. The remote has a Netflix button, which leads me to believe I can play Netflix through this. But now I'm confused. Connecting instructions say:

1. Connecting the Player to your TV. I did this. Connected the Blue Ray player to the HDMI jack in back of the TV.
2. Connecting to you AV amplifier. What is this? Is this my cable box or something different? And why would I connect it to something other than my TV?
3. Preparing for Network Connection. Is this what I need to do in order to get Netflix? The instructions say "Use a LAN cable to connect to the LAN terminal on the player." The diagram shows a [not supplied] LAN cord from the unit to the router, then another [not supplied] LAN cord from the router to the ADSL modem/Cable modem. My router is included in my cable modem, that's fine. But it's in a separate room. I have wireless. I should be able to use that right? No instructions about that at all. Nor do I have any LAN cords.

And given that I should be able to use this Blue Ray player to access Netflix, I guess that means I don't need the AppleTV box I got. I didn't pay for it do I'm not all broken up about that. If I do use it, I would need to swap put the HDMI cable between the Blue Ray player and AppleTV as there is only one HDMI input on the television and right now that has the Blue Ray player in it. That seems kind of stupid, though.

And do I need to sign up for Netflix before I set any of this up? Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

The AV amplifier only applies if you have a stereo system connected to the TV. If you do, and the sound goes out of the TV to the stereo system, then you're most likely already good.

If the blu-ray player has a wi-fi receiver, then you don't need to connect the LAN cord. If there is no wi-fi receiver on the blu-ray player, then you need to run the cord in order to use Netflix or download system updates to the box. So, if the only reason you bought the AppleTV equipment was to connect to Netflix, you could get rid of that should your blu-ray already have that wi-fi connection.

If the blu-ray player has a wi-fi receiver,

And how would I know this?

If there is no wi-fi receiver on the blu-ray player, then you need to run the cord in order to use Netflix

Even though the router/modem is a completely different room? I cannot be the only person in the world whose router/modem is in a different room, can I be?

or download system updates to the box.

Um, what?

So, if the only reason you bought the AppleTV equipment was to connect to Netflix, you could get rid of that should your blu-ray already have that wi-fi connection.

This is what I'm trying to get to.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Good evening Lodge.

I have been camping all week with the boys. We have spent about 22 or so nights in the tent so far this summer. Until today about 99% of that time it has been dry. Today was the first real test with a rain day with both the gear and two kids ages 6 and 8. It has been raining steady since about 10:00 this morning. We have had a blast. We obviously have rain gear so we have been able to get out once in a while. Other than that we have been playing board games and other activities and we all took a long nap earlier this afternoon. The boys and I have agreed that today might have been one of best days camping to date.

It helps that our tent is a 12x20 with a vestibule that adds another 11' so the tent is really a 12x31. 4' side walls and a 9' ceiling. Lots of room for an adult and two kids. :) The tent is bullet proof. All day driving rain with wind and the tent is dry and I have no concerns of it leaking. I can't wait to test in out in colder weather as I have a kick azz wood stove for it. It also helps to have decent gear as well. We all have cots with the Exped Mega Mat 10 (down filled) air mattresses.

For dinner we cooked up corn on the cob and NY strips. Freshly picked strawberries for dessert. We are all dry, warm and comfy.
