I think my parents have just one account, and my mom basically runs the finances (even though my dad was in collections/finance for years at a major retail store and later the state government). In fact, on both sides of my family, the woman always took care of the bank stuff. My late SIL included.
My family was opposite of that. My dad handled all of the finances.

Good morning Lodge. Beautiful day here today. I'm off. Heading out with one of my friends to a hotel in Newton to hang at their pool. Swanky!

My parents have a joint checking and savings. They managed money together, my mother would pay for all the household expenses, mostly with cash. This was food, clothing for us, etc. and she would manage to squirrel away money here and there. To a point where she could pay for vacations with it. They both were good at living within their means. When my brothers and I were born, they opened savings accounts for each of us in their name to put any money we would get from birthdays, etc. When we got our first jobs, they brought us to the bank and changed the name on the account to us with them as the secondary name. So, I had a little savings already when I started to work and this is how I helped pay for my college education, they also taught me how to manage my money and balance my checkbook, which I do every month. Like my dad, I will chase a dollar it I'm off. It's usually a minor math error (MATH) but because of them I know where every penny of my money is. Is that frugal? If do, then I'm frugal.

When I was out Wednesday night with work peeps I was saying how I don't have that accessories gene. I'll spend money on clothes, a lot at a time, but it just don't spend money on jewelry and stuff. One of the women who is always so well put together was mockingly horrified and said we will take a half day and she would take me shopping and spend money and she would help me buy all this stuff. I was like, OK. But the more I thought about it, the more I though "I'd rather take the large amount of money she wants me to spend and take a hockey trip or something." I don't need expensive shoes or bracelets. I'd rather pay for a nice hotel and go to the Cape and enjoy myself or so etching like that. I think it's part of how I was brought up to manage my money.

I've had my own savings account since I was a baby, checking account since I was about 10. Had to get a checking account when I started working, and buying large items (livestock, snowmobile, 4-wheeler, etc). I have been making money for a long time, but I have always spent it pretty regularly. At this point I still spend what I make, but I put a pretty decent amount in the 401k, and I have a cut of my check go towards company stock purchases. I use that company stock as my emergency savings, and I figure as long as I'm piling up a good 401k, I should be good.

I just googled chocolate milk. I don't have cable any more, so no Comedy Central. ;)

If I ever marry, there will probably be 3 accounts. Back when I was dating the last guy, I was certain there'd be a prenup as well (he spent all his money racing, and wanted to start a business which scared me a bit). I'm a saver, live well within my means, and like to avoid risk.

I've been a saver since I was young. I saved up my allowances for a year to buy a Gameboy when I was 9. Saving up $90 a couple bucks a week takes forever (especially for a kid).

Now that I finally have a job that pays significantly more than I would typically spend in a year I have allowed myself larger purchases. Necessary ones and fun ones (but always within my means), next month I get new siding, last year I bought kayaks.

So, an uncle of mine just retired. A couple items on his bucket list were to move to Hawaii and to experience a hurricane. He moved to Hawaii a few months ago and he is currently experiencing his first hurricane. He has been providing updates as he is really amped to witness this. Even though the hurricane has been downgraded. It turns out he slept through the worst part of it. :D

I did virtually the same thing. I had been at mother mining for almost 15 years before I first tapped into any of the stock, helped us buy our lake place.
Both are great investments and considering we decided to put our kids in private schools the stock & 401K options have been our best savings tools.

Full day up Nort.

Driving range followed by lunch along Eagle River at an outside place followed by go-carts followed by skiing & tubing followed by a run in the Nicollet National Forest followed by the hot tub and now dinner.

Then fishing, a fire and euchre with some cocktails. I'm exhausted. I need a vacation.

Jet skis tomorrow I guess.
