The boy made the 10 O'Clock News last night...

for hockey! :D

Playoffs started and the NBC affiliate included footage of his assist and named him in their coverage of the game.

That was a first for us, so pretty cool. :)

Good Morning Lodge.

Yay lil Gurt! Are they in playoffs yet?

Brent, if you can't get in to a Dr., I can give you a chiro recommendation in Hopkins. He's really good and not a nutty one, his family are all MDs so he's not off the deep end. When I had a disc issue, my chiro was able to tell me which disc and which direction it was bulging based on my symptoms and later the MRI confirmed just what he said.

Good morning Lodge. Not sure if yesterday's commuting mess was because it was a Tuesday but today was freakishly easy. Maybe everyone decided to stay home. I'll take it.

A few things I was pondering on my commute in for you all to weigh in on:

1. Is it President's Day, Presidents' Day or Presidents Day? I've seen it in ads all three ways.
2. When you type out Happy Birthday to someone, is it necessary to upper case the B?
3. Do any of you buy organic fruit? When I was food shopping Saturday morning I grabbed bananas that were green rather than yellow as I knew I wouldn't be eating them till mid week and I didn't want them to rot. When I was at the register I saw they rang in higher than normal and then noticed that the bag they were in said organic. I wasn't in the mood to go back and swap them out, how different could they be? It's Wednesday and they're still green. Is that normal?

And congrats to Gurt jr! Were you able to record it??? If so, put it on YouTube and share the link so we can all see!!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

It is not necessary to capitalize the "B" and there should be a comma before the name.

Happy Birthday ExileOnDaytonStreet!!

Congrats to lil Gurt!

Off to work. Ugh. My neck is a mess. I need a massage.

1) Presidents Day or Presidents' Day, the former is truly correct but the latter is acceptable.
2) I have never once pondered that. I don't think it really matters.
3) All of my food is made from carbon-based organisms, so it's all organic. Whether or not the farmers use pesticides and herbicides, that's another story and I don't worry about it.

Presidents Day question has no hard and fast grammar rule. Words ending in s that show singular possession can use: 's or ses or s'.

ses would sound funny in speech so I'd guess why that's never chosen. Other two ways are fine.

But it's now plural possessive as it recognizes all presidents so I think s' is correct. There is no math, grammar though...

If the day is for the president (doesn't matter how many there have been), then president's is valid. The day is for the office, not the people in office.

If the day is only for specific people who were president, then presidents' would be more appropriate.

It's not a real holiday anyways apparently.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

I probably won't share it.

The game was a rout as we were playing the lowest seed (12th) in our section (we're the 5th seed - top 4 got a bye) and our boys were moving about half speed (if that) which was still twice as fast as the opponent's normal speed. Looks like a bantam game in the footage.

Won the game 14-0.

My wife noticed the camera crews there though and they usually film the first period and then leave to go back and cut it in time for the news. Since my kid assisted on a goal in the first, we figured we had a shot of seeing him. Was very pleased that he was mentioned by name.

Put it on Facebook for friends and family to see and people are getting a kick out of it - especially Grandma(s) and Grandpa.

I will say though that the goal (the 3rd) that he assisted on was arguably the most important of the game. Everyone knows that a two goal lead is the most dangerous lead in hockey, so the 3rd goal was obviously the pivotal moment of our season to this point. :D

All of the goals after that were meaningless - especially since my kid couldn't pot one on probably 10 shots on net. ;)

:D

Mentally fried. Just took a big exam though, have some more work to do but not nearly what I've had the last three days. Just in time for us to start our playoff run; perfect really.

I always say Happy Birthday!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Also...I always believed in that saying that the two goal lead in hockey. That is until I started coaching. I'd take a two goal lead over a one goal lead every day!:p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Congrats!!

Have you guys played Notre Dame, Edgewood, Superior or La Crescent?

I know you guys played Edgewood. We beat Edgewood in OT although the game was not that close and we should have won a bit easier.

We lost to Notre Dame 3-2, but had many chances to have a better outcome than that although, overall, they are probably better than us - a bit quicker.

Your team is probably better than us, but I think we could at least give you a game.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Many of the Edgewood players were teammates of my boy while in youth hockey and a few are still on spring and fall travel teams.

Good Afternoon, Lodge!

In the process of printing 77 double sided posters that have to be mounted on tag board. Following that up with 4 4x4 vinyl signs and 6 vinyl banners. Oh, did I mention they are all due tomorrow?
