So the phone wasn't 100% dead, but it's not able to do anything. As soon as I tried to unlock the phone, it went right back to being locked and it wouldn't or couldn't find a cell signal in an area that normally has four bars. The charge was still 33%, so that's something, I suppose. I hard booted the phone off, and will leave it that way until the morning, see if it responds once it's back to a more favorable temperature. Fun stuff.

As for followers, I have quite a few from the Bemidji area, for no apparent reason.

Good Morning Lodge.

So what did Scarlet do to **** someone off so badly that she has to go to 'Sconny? Maybe I should follow her on twitter to find out.

les, do you have any suggestions for navigating Swedish and Norwegian records circa 1800-1880 on Ancestry.com?

So, I know some people may have an aversion to Jenny McCarthy, but their new show Donnie Loves Jenny premieres tonight in a couple minutes (10:30e/9:30c).

But the episode is all about her wedding, of which fellow USCHO'er NMUKat82 (twitter: @nmuhockeykat) was one of the catering/event coordinators at Hotel Baker who helped the wedding go so well.

She wasn't interviewed, but she might be in some of the background shots. :)

*EDIT* Nevermind, lots of scenery porn of the hotel, but virtually ZERO shots of any of the hotel staff making Donnie and Jenny's wedding perfect.

Still f*ing cold out.

But I got my newest (and my centerpiece) canvas today. It's about 48"x 30" (not including frame) of Liotta/De Niro/Sorvino/Pesci posing in their Goodfellas characters. I feel like a kid at Christmas right now. It's pretty bad-ass.

Good Morning Lodge. We're having a heat wave! Going up to 14 ABOVE zero today. But snow and blowing snow so SW part of state under blizzard watch - hope Mavsy's team doesn't have a game scheduled. Whoops, they do but it's Mankato West vs Mankato East so they should be OK - don't have to drive to Worthington or something like that.

Happy Birthday Patman!!

Wish I did. I felt stymied. I ended up posting on the message board and one of my distant cousins found me. He does a lot of the research.

Many of the people coming over changed their names either as they hit the boat or when they got off. Example- my GGF was Emmanuelson, decided it was to Jewish sounding and changed to Anderson. The surname was not passed down to children until recently. They took your father's name and added either son or dotter at the end. So my GGF was the son of Emmanuel who was the son of Anders (so was Andersson). Some time in late 1800s ish they stopped using dotter as much and used son instead. I have access to everthing on ancestry so if you find something you want to look at let me know. SOmetimes if you go to the library they have access too.

Records are pretty good if you look at baptisms. Saw something on one of the genealogy bebsites that explained all this but couldn't tell you which one. Sorry!

I have all but 1 line back all the way back to either Sweden or Norway (great-great-grandparents, or older), and only 2 of them have I decoded the names from when they were in Sweden. I encountered the name change on the boat thing, we went from Svenson to my current last name when coming to the US. The other line that I traced back that far didn't change their name, they were Andersson in Sweden, and Anderson in the US. From what I can tell, Norway is going to be a bit tougher than I've found Sweden, and Sweden has been tough.

I need to start looking at this. We know my grandma's line pretty well back into Norway and have had contact with relatives there. My Grandpa came over using the name of the farm the family lived on at the time. Shortly afterward the family left that farm and went back to a previous surname and we have little track of the family from before or after Grandpa came over.
