If you can wait a few months, Windows 10 will be released and you can avoid the horror show that is Windows 8 (8.1 now). Oh, how I loathe Windows 8's interface.Yesterday I could not boot my laptop computer while I was having my car serviced and again when I got home. (I use a desktop most of the time.) Several attempts at repairing got nowhere. I bit the bullet and reinstalled the operating system. After a couple of hours that seems to have worked. Then it started to download 87 updates. The computer runs Vista, so it isn't surprising that there are a lot. I think that will be tomorrow's task since I want to go out now and don't want it doing things when I am not here. Then I have to install lots of software. Maybe I should just replace the computer. It is about seven years old I think.

Otherwise, the official MS support period for Vista ended April 2012, so I'm actually a little shocked that you were able to reinstall updates downloaded from MS.
I haven't installed them, but I assume that is what many of the 87 updates are.
Are they skipping Windows 9?
