Mornin' Lodge.

Not even a half day today for work. Most carriers aren't running, so that limits our options. Gonna swing by MNS's place of employment (booze store) to see what those cake-eaters have in stock. :)

Good morning & Merry Christmas.
Nothing says day off like an early screening of Get Shorty.

"They say the {BEEP} smog is the {BEEP} reason you have such beautiful {BEEP} sunsets. :D

Yesterday I could not boot my laptop computer while I was having my car serviced and again when I got home. (I use a desktop most of the time.) Several attempts at repairing got nowhere. I bit the bullet and reinstalled the operating system. After a couple of hours that seems to have worked. Then it started to download 87 updates. The computer runs Vista, so it isn't surprising that there are a lot. I think that will be tomorrow's task since I want to go out now and don't want it doing things when I am not here. Then I have to install lots of software. Maybe I should just replace the computer. It is about seven years old I think.

Good Morning, Lodge!

Full day of cooking ahead of me today. I have to get dinner for tonight ready and a few side dishes for tomorrow. At least there is a Doctor Who marathon on the telly today that can hold me over until the best marathon of a 24 hours of A Christmas Story.

If you can wait a few months, Windows 10 will be released and you can avoid the horror show that is Windows 8 (8.1 now). Oh, how I loathe Windows 8's interface.

Otherwise, the official MS support period for Vista ended April 2012, so I'm actually a little shocked that you were able to reinstall updates downloaded from MS.

I haven't installed them, but I assume that is what many of the 87 updates are.

Are they skipping Windows 9?

Yes, they're skipping 9 in order to help disassociate future Windows from the failure that is 8.

Word of advice: If you run outside when it's barely daylight, in the mist/fog/rain, IT IS A VERY BAD IDEA TO BE WEARING BROWN, GREY OR BLACK!

Grandma almost got run over, but not by a reindeer.
