Good morning Lodge.

French toast and bacon and locally grown fruit for breakfast.

I know I'm a little late to the party but both little g's and now mrs. g and myself have been nominated for the ice bucket challenge. I get the premise of it but I wonder how many people actually donate to the cause versus do it for the novelty?
ALS has raised over $50million with the challenge, so a good number of people must be donating.

I did both. As did everyone I know.

Was thinking about it this AM. My news feed on FB is filled with people hating on the challenge, on people who do it and on the people who pay and don't dump. Man, this is one sick society. We are so wired to judge and find fault even a positive thing turns into a vehicle to judge each other. It started out as a challenge to increase awareness and/or raise $ for research or so the organization can pay for marketing to increase awareness. Now you have the little people who are doing it for the original purpose and the 'famous people' who can't do anything right no matter what they do.

If you are flamboyant you get dissed- see the guy with the helicopter and glacier water or multiple other celebs. If you are a politician you really can't win. If you dump then you are attention seeking- Kennedys for those around my neck of the woods had a lot of people making a huge deal they had $$ and should have given a huge chunk of change instead of dumping. Missed the point totally- this hit the news and spawned a whole story on ALS, the point of the challenge.

If you write a check you get judged too- huge pic on my feed showing the president and yapping about how he won't man up and wrote a check. Thousands of people posting agreeing. If he had done it there would have been a lot of numbnuts whining he should be more serious and he has $ to give. (not particularly a fan of his but crimminy).

Then you have Charlie Sheen who covered both bases by dumping a bucket of $10K over his head and challenging his buds to do the same. People were hating on him just because he is who he is.

Saw a great thing done by some broadcaster from NZ or maybe Australia saying to stop whining about the waste, this that and the other thing and instead everyone should give if they are able to some charity as they all need them. / end rant. Phew, that felt good.

PS- we have a guy in our town who has ALS. They have fund raisers every yr. The one that just happened almost tripled its participation and $ raised because it coincided with the start of the Ice bucket thing.

Then there's the pro life group who wants people to stop donating because the ALS Foundation does research using stem cells. That one was a big W-T-F.

Getting ready to go to the MTV Video Music Awards tonight. I'm already exhausted and we haven't left yet.

I hadn't seen that one yet. People are ridiculous.

FFL Draft done. I think I did okay.

A few of us went out to TGIF's for dinner afterwards, and I went for the Endless Appetizers Special (no, I didn't get the mozz sticks ;) ). Went with the wings. Having 2.5 plates was a bad idea in hindsight. I don't wanna move right now.

I live under a rock. I tend to keep up on things but for some reason I haven't followed the ALS challenge. I use Facebook occasionally. This morning my cell phone blew up as I was receiving texts about being challenged.

I think it's a brilliant idea. The PR they are getting out of this (let alone the money) is huge. Everyone in the g household was challenged and the 12 people we challenged have all accepted and passed along the challenge.

Tomorrow is my Friday and then it's off for a final camping trip before schools starts.

What pick did you have and who did you pick in rounds 1,2 and 3?

Back to school tomorrow. What a fast and awesome summer.

I really think I'm going to enjoy living in my new place and with these new roommates. Had an awesome time this weekend and it's fun to be able to live with new people; kind of a fresh start I suppose. (There are four of us, two people whom I really only knew very casually, and one was my roommate in the dorms freshman year.)

Also, it's Game Week! Welcome back college football!

What do you do in NYC when you visit?

Ride your bike? ;)

I was visiting my brother and his family. We went out to eat both days. Besides that I visited the cemetery where my parents and my mother's parents are buried (and I will be buried. )

I one brought a bike with me, but that was in the days when I drove here.

I think, personally, it's kinda dumb but there's no sense being a killjoy about it. Most fads annoy me but you may as well let people be people.

Holy crap I hurt. I probably shouldn't have decided that water skiing for the first time in about 6 years was a good idea. Oh well, it was fun while I was doing it. Face planted while trying to open my beer, that was kinda ****ty.

Later on in the night I fell in the St. Croix River, because the dock was unsecured. Walked from one section to the other, and the dock sunk like a foot, lost my footing, and flopped right into the **** river. So, other than that (which happened at about 2AM Sunday), bachelor party Saturday was a blast. And I guess my new phone is pretty sweet.

Good Morning Lodge.

Congrats to lil Gurtie. ;) I take it he goes into the corners with his elbows out and stick up like his old man, eh? :p

Had PT this morning so I can go to the Fair on Friday. Supposed to be great weather for it on Friday, hope the guessers are right for once.

Oh, a kid we have known since before mites (so like 5 years old) just committed to being a Gopher hockey player! Hope he can qualify academically.
