This was my first time, I just got the smoker last week. It was a good decision.

I love using my smoker. Something else you could look in to smoking up is a ham. Done that a few times with very positive results.

I've done it with Apple and mesquite wood. And glazed with maple/Brown sugar, I've also used some brown mus**** on the outside as well.

Good Morning Lodge.

Then you cooked up too much onion. Duh. :p

Actually I think I didn't smoke the onions enough. Or I should have tried to find sweeter onions. These were good, but a little sharp. Last time I used vadellia onions and they were awesome. I also did not like the cut of the ribs. What I get for using Cub ribs. They tasted good but lots of bone, not much meat.

gmann, you should try smoking. You can smoke on a grill too if you can control the heat well enough.

Good Morning, Lodge!

My boss is out of the office for the next 2 weeks at shows. This means my guard is down and the CEO can get on my case about his own little projects that force me not to do my actual job, then get yelled at for not doing my job. I have already warned my boss that he owes me. The company I work for has 2 divisions: promotional products and retail. I was hired to work on the promotional products side. That is what I do. I help out with the other side periodically as they use some our promotional products for their retail. The CEO wants me to work for the retail side. There is no way in hell that I would work for that side. That side has been syphoning money from the promotional products side to fund a new line that is hemorrhaging money left and right.

I have already decided that I'm going to only get my meat for smoking at Von Hanson's or somewhere higher quality (local butcher), and not at a grocery store. I need some decent quality if I'm going to spend hours smoking a hunk of meat. I got the brisket at Von Hanson's and it was a good choice. They brought out several for me to chose from, gave me some advice, and really knew what they were talking about, and it turned out great.

So, the wife took me camping this past weekend, she has been wanting to go for a while. I can do the parts where we sit around the fire, drink beer, etc. But I need a shower that I don't have share with 50 other people. I need a decent place to brush my teeth. I need a decent mattress to sleep on, and somewhere I can actually stand up to get dressed. Need to push the cabin direction.....

Howdy Lodge.

I hadn't heard about that Market Basket story, thanks for sharing it with us. I find it very interesting. It sounds like the good cousin is the type of man I wish were CEO at more companies. Finding a way to run a profitable business and remember that employees and customers should be looked out for just as much as shareholders.

Hope all you Lodgers are doing well. NaSK and I played tennis over the weekend. Neither of us had played in years, but we both had a great time, and are going to play more often.

Hey MN people, anyone want to put together a day to check out the fair? I, unfortunately, cannot make it there the first weekend (Sunday is a maybe) due to my future BIL's bachelor party that Saturday. Wife and I are hoping to check it out together on a weeknight evening. Does anyone want to go on maybe Sunday of Labor Day weekend? The Mrs. is going to be working at the fair that day, so I can bum around the grounds all day.

edit: here's your slice of comedy for the day: Scott Stapp is playing the Leinie's Lodge Bandshell.

They had that much trouble finding people for the Leinie's Lodge this year?

I'd be so in for that Sunday. Didn't we go on the same Sunday last year? Given the time we got there last year, it worked out perfect to check out all the stuff (and eat all the food) we wanted to.

Last year we saw some twanger that had happened to have a HUGE hit single on the radio. The Fair had booked him before he got big. So, instead of it being a ticketed show (which the Fair could have easily done, had they booked him later), it was a 10am free show at the Leinie's Lodge.

I've wanted to see BZ for years & years but every time he's been in town something has come up or we were gone. I will not miss this opportunity.

The boss & I were talking about future trips; thinking some time in the Big Easy then chasing down some Zydeco clubs on the Bayou is in our future. Would love to do in in the fall and try to score tickets for an LSU game but that might be a dream.
