I don't mind the full on camping, BUT as I am older now...just give me running water. Please. The rest? Well, the point is to get away from it all, right? :)

No, electricity is important.

Of course I like bbdl's full on micro-resort on the lake :)

Conference is going well. Haven't gone over today. Sleeping + editing my slides.

Can someone tell me why we are hosting an African Summit in the US? (What a mess around where I live!)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Exactly

He does have a single brother in law though
What, do you want me to slip her your digits or something? She's not a knockout, but you could do worse. Probably a 6 or 7. BTW, I don't think having one meeting with her is grounds for making it acceptable to say "hey, my brother in law wants to go out sometime, here is his cell number" :p

Over or under compared to your godfathers daughters :D

Only if the hotel is on a lake, and you don't share a wall with anyone, and you own it yourself and can do with it what you want.
that is a condo if you are smart- then they do the upkeep too.

I am with the minimalist crowd sort of. West facing, waterfront, prefer deep water with sandy shallows rather than shallow lake. Running water/ at least a micro-shower, and electricity. Heat is optional. Intertubes, TV access - Meh. Don't care. If I am at the lake I try not to do that stuff anyway. More than that and it is too much for me

I wouldn't MIND electricity, but it's not a necessity for me. When I go camping or go to a cabin, I'm there to basically just kill some time and relax. I think the last time I went camping, I just brought a couple books, and read by a fire all day and night. Last time I was at a cabin, my buddies and I fell a tree, then played cards. It was so relaxing.

Where we go is off the road a piece and at the end of the lake with neighbors only on one side. There are bear and other large predator type things out there. I'm not afraid to admit I like 4 walls and a light if I want it.

Getting away from it all means getting away from work, stress, etc. If anything, not having normal comforts is going to put my stress level through the roof. Sorry, I would not be ok with any cabin that doesn't have all of the luxuries I want. Plumbing/Electricity is absolutely a 100% must, not having it is a deal breaker. Need at least 2 bedrooms, and room for pull-out couches. Satellite dish, with nice big TV, preferably with a way to swing it our to watch on the deck. Decent kitchen. Heat and A/C. Denying myself of these things is not going to be fun, it is not going to be stress relieving. It is going to make me ornery, stressed, and extremely stinky.

edit: also, need a hot tub and/or sauna
This.
No one cares if she's competent. We want to know about her other assets! :D
And this.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

I guess I find it kind of funny that a country boy like you wants the benefits of city things, while a city boy like me would prefer the country living if I were to want to get away from it all. :D

I like electricity and hot water, but have had cabins with neither.

Don't need TV as we are by the fire till bedtime.

You know what REALLY peeves me when in the Nort Woods? Hearing a ****ing TV in the next place over when I'm out in the hammock or around the fire.

My family used to vacation on Leech Lake, at a resort (cabins). IIRC, they had elec and water, but that was it. We rarely used them. Also used to go when storm season was in full swing. Nothing like seeing a storm roll in on a hot summer night, with only candles lighting the cabin.
Nothing made us more mad then when others brought modern technology to said cabins.

My Dad's hunting camp is kind of a nice middle ground, although some creature comforts have been added in recent years. Solar power is available now, spring-fed cement pool, but it does have an outhouse. Always enjoy my time up there.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

So, the wife took me camping this past weekend, she has been wanting to go for a while. I can do the parts where we sit around the fire, drink beer, etc. But I need a shower that I don't have share with 50 other people. I need a decent place to brush my teeth. I need a decent mattress to sleep on, and somewhere I can actually stand up to get dressed. Need to push the cabin direction.....
That Citty life is making you soft! Although you do raise a good point later on here in having access to a shower.

That sounds awesome. I'm just trying to find the best way to broadcast; dish, direct tv, a wireless card and hdmi cord, etc.
from what I've seen, little satellite dishs work, although I have no idea just how exactly they are set up as I'm more of a minimalist when I tailgate. A cooler of cold ones, some chips and snacks to bring to the tailgate, a Monster to chug right before going in and some water for after the game is all I really need.

I have seen some of the big screen in the back of the truck/SUV/Minivan set ups that look like they're just pulling in the signal on a Over-the-Air antenna. You just have to hope that whatever game you want to watch is on a station that you can pull in via over the air. I know that has seem to work well for a few of the Notre Dame fans I've seen.

My grandfather's hunting cabin up north had a out house, a pump handle at the sink to get water, and I think it was set up that you could run a generator for power there if you really wanted to, but I don't think they did that often during hunting season. After he died that got sold off and my dad and his brothers went in on a different place and really build a polebarn house on the site, got a garage to put quads, dirtbikes, and snowmobiles in, plumbing, electricity and a satelite dish. No phone at the cabin and its far out into the boonies that you gotta ride out to this big hilltop to get any cell service around there. If somebody would just put a tower up on the hill it would probably cover about half of Kalkaska County I think.
