Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Well, it's a good thing you had your orange juice this morning.
Yep.

Just walked back down there, and it shifted into gear just fine so I was able to get it home. Not sure what's going to happen from here. It's 17 years old and has 190,000 miles on it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

We're supposed to get about 5 inches of snow today which would be the most since I retired. When I went to the Starbucks in the local Safeway earlier, the panickers were out in force. :D

The salt is drifting.

It looks like another overblown forecast for 202-land. I can't speak for 301-land and 703-land.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Currently 2-3" outside with a break according to the radar. Another band due to hit within the hour and it looks like it'll be over by 3-ish. The parking lot here at work is just wet so my guess is the roads are fine.

Listed my George Strait/Eric Church tickets for Omaha last night. Priced them at $210 each. 2x face value, which was about average for that section. We'll see if I get it or if they have to come down in price.

That's a pretty steep price for toilet paper. ;)

Betting it's a leak. Transmission fluid isn't registering on the dipstick. Hopefully, whatever it is isn't too expensive...or else I may be without a vehicle.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Bought the brother in-law Zac Brown tickets too. And my dad Wild tickets.

I can't even imagine how expensive tickets for the newly announced Garth Brooks World Tour are going to be.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

I have a used bike I could sell you. ;)
I'm sure you do...:p

This day almost got worse. I got a call from "Bremer" Bank that there was a problem with my check card and that they'll send me a new one. Problem is, I don't have an account with Bremer. Called Bremer myself and apparently there is a fraudulent automated call going around looking to get account information. Luckily, they also verified that I still don't have an account with them....made me nervous for a second.

A lot of these calls can be averted with one simple rule.

If I don't recognize the number, or it's private/unlisted/unknown, I don't pick up. PERIOD. If it's important, they can leave a message.

This is what I do. If I see the same number calling repeatedly, I'll pick up and listen, not say a thing to see who it is. If it is crap, like it always is, I'll hang up. The next time that number calls, I answer it and scream "QUIT ****ING CALLING ME YOU ****ING PIECE OF ****" and hang up before they even say a word. Of course this only works when its a real person and not an automated message.

I answer, if it is automated it responds to voice so I put the phone by the radio and walk away.

I usually don't even pick up unknown numbers, but being in the middle of a job search, I pick up everything right now. That being said, a little common sense can prevent it too.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

I follow the same principle as the two scholars (Twitch and bbdl) have mentioned previously. There are some area codes that I will probably pick up, but those are related to work or home.

For those on Android, Avast antivirus includes a number blocker and it's free. It even lets you add numbers directly from your recent calls.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. My cell # used to belong to some deadbeat and I have been fielding calls from collection companies for 1.5 years now. I have called them back and 4 times been assured they are purging my number from their system. I still get the calls.

A referee's whistle works well, too.
