Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.
Christ on a cracker, what a day. Drove my car to the MBTA garage across the street so my parking spot could be plowed during the storm today. Got to the station, train there totally packed with many more people standing on the platform. Great. Announcement that there was a disabled train at the next stop. I wasn't about to squeeze on that train. There was one heading the other way. I've gone that way so I can get a seat. It was also 8 degrees so I wanted to get on a train. After sitting down, the other train left. Of course. But then they announced that the train I was on was going to head into Boston and not go the other way - yay! Missed my 9am meeting, was a few minutes late for my 9:30.
Snow started about 11:30. We got an email about 2:30 that they were closing the office at 4pm because the worst of the storm would be during the evening commute. I head out about 4:30 because I wasn't driving. Got on the train. We pull out of my station and then the train lurches and stops. Dead. Great. Stuck in a tunnel on a train for 20-25 minutes. Finally get it moving, we pull into the next stop. No announcement so I figure all was OK. No, after the million people waiting at that station get on, we get a "This train is coming out of service." Really??? You wait till the train gets packed to the gills to announce that??? Squeeze back onto the platform. Wait another 6 minutes for the next train, which is ridiculous since they were all backed up behind us. Should have come right in!
That train was full but they were able to get a bunch more people on. Stupid idiots trying to get on but couldn't which held up that train from leaving. I and another girl were yelling together to have those idiots step back so that train could leave and get other trains in. Got on the next one. Also packed so no seat. Every stop had so many people - not sure how long it took those people to get home.
Of all days to have trains die during both commutes. Of course it's a Tuesday! My car is still in the T garage. I was hoping to go get it later tonight. It's going to stay there now unless I can get it early tomorrow morning. I'm flying tomorrow - I hope I can get out. It's supposed to stop tonight but my fear is my plane not getting to Boston so I can leave.
