Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

I had heard that it was ending but had not heard that explanation. Sounds about right for Minneapolis. We wouldn't want to continue a family friendly event that draws people downtown to spend money, would we?

Downtown gets packed real early on Friday nights before the event. It's a mad house trying to find a table when my coworkers and I try to do a Friday happy hour during Decembers. And it's all families going to the Holidazzle.

I heard that it's going to be replaced by something else, something more "inclusive." I have no idea what that even means in this case, though I'm curious if people will still attend it or stay away out of spite. If the replacement flops, the DMC is going to hear about it from local businesses, that's for sure.

Back at work after 10 days of vacation. Deer hunting for most of it. We got 11 this year, so it was a pretty poor year. I didn't get one, and didn't really ever have a chance. I took a couple long-distance hope-and-pray type shots but didn't connect, and never had a shot at one less than about 150 yards with brush in the way. (which also means I didn't even get to shoot the .357 mag at a deer :()Oh well, I got 3 each of the last 2 years before this, so I was due for a down year. I think I'm going to Cabelas this week for their Nikon Optics sale to get a new BDC scope for the Weatherby. I've been intending to get a new scope for a few years now, but have been reluctant because my old one was dialed in perfect. Last night I found, while cleaning it, that I lost a screw on the scope mount, and the scope was loose, so there's no better time than now to get a new one.

Deer hunting was cold as ****, and I walked entirely too much, up and down the hills/bluffs of SE MN, but it was fun regardless. I probably lost 15 pounds, just from the walking. If it was going to be that **** cold, it could have at least snowed for us.

Thanksgiving was OK. Food was good. Too much Christmas though. At least we're drifting closer to the ideal situation of not having to buy gifts for anyone....my influence is making a difference.

Bought a radius invisible fencing unit for the dog over the weekend. Installed it yesterday. It is supposed to take something like 2 weeks for the dog to be trained by the thing, but Beau had it figured out after about 3 minutes of training. He's too smart for his own good. Now he gets close to the boundary (marked by little white flags), slowly walks up to the flags, his collar starts to beep, and he comes sprinting back to the house. It will be nice to be able to leave him outside for extended periods of time without worrying about him running out in the road.

I did the majority of my Christmas shopping last night on Amazon. It would be perfect if I don't have to set foot in a store until January. I hate crowds and Christmas music. The only store I need to go to is a liquor store, since I picked my cousin's husband's name and he said all he wants is a homewrecker of Jameson and a 12er of Squirt. THAT I can handle.

Ugh Mondays. I'm still wiped from my travels yesterday. Went to bed at 9:30 and think I was asleep by 9:31. Came in this morning and have taken care of a bunch of fire drills. Went to deliver some merchandise to another department and left my glasses there. Got back to my desk and had a :30 "Where are my glasses???" panic before I retraced my steps to head all the way back there to get them. Sheesh.

It's in a pretty nice sub, down a one way street. It would be really nice to grow into. But, I'm not getting my hopes up. We have to hear back on our financing first, and then we'd have to have it inspected.

If you need an inspector, I have a name for you I'd recommend in a heartbeat. He did mine, and he's a client of ours.

Good morning Lodge.

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I had a good time in East Lansing for turkey day. Then went to a bunch of sporting events, hosted my brother and his friend at my place. Despite the football outcome, it was a great weekend. And honestly, the football went better than expected.

Now back to work, and if that wasn't bad enough I've got a cold. Not sure how much I'll be able to accomplish today. At least there's hockey tonight. wait, what? Crazy B1G conference.
Lil calls this the Little 6 Fail conference :p

Good Morning, Lodge!

Made it back to Minnesota yesterday afternoon. This cough that I have had for almost a week got to the point that I had to go to Urgent Care. What I thought was they usual upper respiratory infection, turned out to be pneumonia. I should have asked for a copy of the x-rays. They were impressive. Les, you would kill me for waiting this long.

So I am on some beyond industrial strength medicine and I am not allowed to go back to work until I get cleared by a doctor. The earliest I could go back would be Wednesday, if I can get into the doctor's office that morning.
Well..... if you were still upright it beats the people who come in because they might be sick and have coughed once so they need an antibiotic....
Hope you feel better!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

There are five brothers in my family, I have four of them. You'd think that some planning could fall onto multiple shoulders, but that's just not how it goes. It's irritating, to say the least.

That said, I'm building up mondo points on my credit card this month, taking on all of my mom's funeral expenses. When she passed I had all of four of her checks remaining and was about to order another book. Now I'm just charging them all to my card and will then write out a reimbursement check to myself later this month.

I'm making my high school coaching debut with the JV game against cross town rival East!

Or a martini with a cookie! There has to be an Oreo Cookie martini out there. I think I've seen one. Or drank one.

Speaking of the Oreo cookie, I need to make those this Christmas season. I have the recipe taped up over my stove, and with good reason...

Good evening Lodge.

Shiatty weather today. About 4" of heavy wet snow and now it's raining. Roads are snow packed and slippery. Winter storm watch for 320ville through Wednesday. Good thing I haven't brought in the rider to get the snowblower put on.

It is Minnesota after all so bring it Mother Nature.
