Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Working from home today. Didn't get home from travel until after midnight last night and it was 1 before I went to bed, so I figure a work from home day is in order.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Good luck with that. Only took me 8 months to get an offer, and then I ended up with two of them.
Two application questions I have trouble with are "why should we hire you?" and "what did you like least about this job?"

Somehow, I don't think "I need the money" is an acceptable answer to the first and I feel if you say nothing to the second, you're a liar. If you give an extensive list of why your last job sucked, you're branded as a complainer.

This isn't that tough. You want a job because you want to better yourself, and set yourself up for a better future. And you didn't like your last job because of the hours...you worked nights and complained about it, right? Its not rocket surgery.

There. Got it done. Thank you.

The trick here, especially if these questions come up again during the interview, is to think ahead of time. With the first one, you want to avoid cliches like "I'm a go-getter and I'm always on-time", because they expect that from everyone they hire - you always want to try and connect your previous experience with the position you're applying for. So if it's a job working at a sandwich counter, point out your previous experience doing product demos and interacting with customers. The second question, you want to spin as positively as possible. "My least favorite thing about my last job was working third shift, but I was able to make the transition successfully and learned this, this, and this from the experience."

I'm officially done with physical therapy for my shoulder. I had both my last PT today and my last doctor's follow up. Things are looking good, better than expected, really. Now it's time to broaden the exercises I can do and to be smart about it. Yeah...

Got home from work travel around 10 pm last night. Wanted to come in late today, but that was not an option. Sh** hit the fan while I was out, and I've got an ISO audit to prepare for tomorrow. I will happy when this week is over.

The answer to the first question should be why they should select you over the other applicants. Presumably, you all need the money. What can you bring to the position?

Interview went very well. Expecting a call for a callback interview next week.

Very interesting for me to read all of these posts about job offers.. Will be a reality for me in a couple years.

A couple of ways to get me rage-y. Treat me like I'm an idiot or attack my professional standards. The latter occurred in Div 1.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

20 minutes before I was ready to leave work to head to the airport for my vacation I get an email to stop production on giveaways we're producing for the USOC road show that starts 10/29. We had to split the order between a domestic and international supplier.

That order had to be placed over a month ago in order to ensure delivery. I had to call my contact to see what has or hasn't been produced and stop production if she could. She was with me earlier in the day and was probably driving home.

My boss' boss wanted to know why she couldn't get an answer right away. Got a hold of my boss who was on NYC tomorrow. I told her I have left messages for my contact to call my boss and my boss is like "we'll touch base tomorrow". So I guess I'm not on vacation? She should be dealing with this along with everyone else I've been covering for this week. I'm shaking right now and am almost in tears. Why does this always happen to me when I'm trying to go on vacation???

Calm down... I'm sure everything will work out. Look at the bright side: at least it's not Tuesday!

On a happier note, I have season tickets in hand. Hockey season is almost here!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

Tomorrow is NOT "All OT Friday." Might as well be, though. Sitting at 39~ and I'm starting early tomorrow. :o

Also, I was the only regular offsite guy today. I was there before boss came to open up the building and disarm the security (my company is really restrictive when it comes to that, only one of the offsite people even know the code, otherwise it's just managers). A sales guy drives up, asks me if I know the code. Nope. So what does he do? Opens up the building THEN calls the manager to come down or give him the code! BRILLIANT!

I laughed, knowing the cops would show up and ask about it. And the sales/counter/will call guys wonder why we warehouse guys make fun of them. :D

The new idea Cub has for its stores can suck it. Stop by the Brooklyn Park North store and be confused beyond belief if you feel so inclined. Cripes.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #170: Fair Weather

It hasn't been approved yet. I hope it doesn't work out, because that means we go back at put it back the way it was instead of changing EVERY. EFFING. STORE.

I just have never liked Cub. Don't like their layout, their style, and their offbrand.
