He tripped. Accident when I was escorting him out. Not the right state of mind due to inflammatory comments. Some lawyer somewhere would make this an easy case, if it came to that.

I would have punched him after Mav and Brent. I understand what you're saying about trying to take the high road for your kids' sake, but crap like that needs to be called out. Seriously. That is so far out of line as to be unimaginable, and he should have been told so immediately. His immediate family should have had first shot, but you should have piped up within about 15 seconds. For your kids' sake. They need to be taught right from wrong, and as it stands, your BIL and you taught them that it is OK to say 5hit like that.
